Dancer in the Dark (2000)
Best film I've ever seen ? ? ?
As an Icelander I've known Björk for many years, and never been very interested in her music. As I watched Björk and Lars von Trier on the red carpet in Cannes I wasn't very interested in seeing this movie either. So I didn't go to the cinema to see it and I didn't rent it on video either. But in the easter, it was on the national TV station here in Iceland. I didn't have much to do, so I sat down and decided to at least try to watch it.
In the beginning I thougt maybe it could be a three star film. So I watched and watched....and in the end I was so stunned that I didn't have words to describe my feelings. It's absolutely a four star film and I gave it 10 out of 10.
Björk's acting is enormous, the screenplay is almost perfect...and the whole film is so dramatic that you could almost cry!
The Academy should be ashamed. The film only got one Academy Award nomination, for best original song for 'I've Seen It All'. This movie is much better than Erin Brockovich and Gladiator!
So...next time you go to the video rental store, rent 'Dancer in the Dark' instead of some teen comedy trash!
Bíódagar (1994)
A quite good one
This film is very special and maybe not everyone's taste, so to speak. Fridrik Thor is a great director and this is not his best film (that's Angels of the Universe) but a great one to watch, especially if you like artistic films.
