Can Be Annoying
18 February 2024
All the actors play their parts well but there are some rather irritating plot lines that go through most episodes. Peggy constantly going on about being a yellow coat does grate after a while, especially when she does get the opportunity she is useless and Fred keep talking about getting his jockey licence back! He is too old and too big to be a jockey but no-one bothers to tell him. Running gags can be funny but they need to be realistic, which neither of there are. Spike can also be annoying with his ridiculous speeches which just upset more people and his 'holier than thou' attitude is meant to be a counter to Ted's scams but you just feel like saying 'report it or shut up'!! Simon Cadell and Ruth Madoc are the stars of this sitcom.

Inspector Morse: The Settling of the Sun (1988)

One To Avoid
14 January 2023
The worst Morse episode I have seen. Poorly scripted, poorly photographed, poorly lit and irritating performances. You will be lucky to last beyond the first 10 minutes of this dire story. Morse is lecherous, Jane is annoying, Sir Wilfred a creep and Lewis hardly appears!! Episodes before and since have been much better than this one. Even the appearances of Derek Fowlds cannot lift this beyond poor. Most of the characters are half-lit, the camera is usually focused on theor feet or up their nostrils and half the time there is silence, even in the middle of dialogue. Some characters (eg Supt Dewar) appear that any reason why.

Brilliant One-Liners

This is such easy viewing but the highlight is some of the best one-liners on TV. There are downsides too. Compo is a very annoying character with little to engraciate him to the audience but the other characters more than make up for the lack of comedy where Compo is concerned. The later series without Compo are the best and the introduction of Alvin and Entwhistle lifts the series to new heights. Robert Fyfe as Howard is superb.

So Annoying

Whilst I acknowledge that Patricia Routledge is superb in this role, the character herself is very rude, selfish and condescing. The premis of the programme is that this lady is socially superior to all those around her but the actual plot is based purely on those around her not having the gumption to stand up to her and tell her how annoying and rude she is. This is irrating in the extreme, even though this is a comedy the grasp on reality is tenuous to say the least. No-one would put up with someone so rude, stupid, self-centred and snobbish.

Worth a look

Excellent cast and well written. You genuinely want to know more about the characters and their circumstances. A strong cast who make the characters believable. Set against the background of a small business recently inherited by a graduate after his father passes away, he is confronted by a succession of trials and tribulations which he has to overcome. There are a couple of underlying romantic connections and small revelations that you know will be explored in detail as each episode airs. The format of focusing on one character each week works well and provides a more rounded insight into that character. Looking forward to further episodes.

You, Me & Them (2013–2015)

Not worth the effort
5 November 2013
This is based on an unlikely premise that anyone would tolerate their ex living next door and just waltzing in to their home unannounced at regular intervals. The actors involved are some of the best in their field but they are let down by obvious jokes and weak plots. Why do people never get angry or annoyed in British sitcoms? The character played by Anthony Head, in real life, would be angry that his ex was interfering in his new life. The new partner would likewise be angry, annoyed and upset rather than accept an unlikely scenario. Add to this the usual strong mother and weak father and you have a typical middle class suburban sitcom. One to avoid. When it is aired that is the time to do the jobs you have been putting off.
