On the Rocks (2020)

A "Comedy" with almost no laughs in it!
24 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I REALLY don't understand the good reviews. My wife and I both agree this was basically a wasted 1.5 hrs out of our lives. We were looking for a comedy and it was only able to provide a few short chuckles. Perhaps the worst comedy we've seen in years!

Spoiler Alert: The drama part of the movie also sucked, it leads you to believe the husband is cheating on his wife, and then you find out he isn't, but they never explained why on one night that started all her doubts he went from seemingly wanting to make passionate love with her to suddenly losing interest in her at all. At a minimum, at the end, when she was becoming convinced he had not cheated, SHE SHOULD HAVE ASKED WHAT HAPPENED THAT NIGHT! I still want to know the answer and feel the movie did NOT realize a good conclusion that was convincing as to why he acted that way on that night. I'm still left with the unfulfilled feeling that maybe he was cheating and got away with it because he just happened to come home early from one business trip!

Also, the drama wasn't very good at the drama part, the interactions with the kids were Boring, and Bill Murray cracked a few laughs at his sexist stupidity and moronic comments about how all men are hardwired to cheat, but it was a talking role, he never had to actually act and or change his facial expressions!

The Collector (I) (2009)

Violence, sadism and gore only and otherwise totally pointless!
7 November 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This was one of the most atrocious wastes of time in my life. Spoiler alert (again): There is nothing but violence and unnecessary bloodshed and despicable behavior in this movie. The hero winds up not being a hero, and not rescuing anyone (but possibly the child - but even that is not clear). Only a sadist could like this movie. I cannot believe another reviewer thought the SAW franchise was bad and this was good. At least in the SAW franchise, there was a chance of escape and there was a point to it all. There was the lesson that you should value your life. This movie had no such redeeming message, just gratuitous blood and gore!

This movie was utterly depressing, because after sacrificing so much, the hero gets (spoiler alert for the third time!) recaptured at the end and has nothing to look forward to but meaningless torture at the hands of a sadist. I'd like to punch the producer and writer in the nose to let them know what a horrible disservice they've done to mankind, dragging it down just one more peg on the scale of evolution. At least they should learn from the far superior movies of SAW that there should be SOME redeeming values to movies, otherwise they should never be made as they are just a waste of our countries resources to satisfy the hollow consciences of sadists!

The 4400 (2004–2007)

Fabulous
5 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the best TV SciFi series ever made. I can't wait to see the season 3 premier and episodes. I don't believe my comments are really spoilers, as all of Seasons 1 & 2 are over long ago, and everyone could have seen them already. However, if you didn't see season 2, consider this a warning!

The new neurotransmitter that was found in the "returnees" blood sounds cool, a great way to introduce new abilities, and to make it so all mankind can potentially benefit from and get the abilities the 4400 are showing. (It also introduces the potential for utter chaos if everyone gets wild new abilities. Imagine the right wing bible beating guy who wanted to kill the baby as an abomination with some "superpower", that would be pretty bad!)

I think the idea of having the guy who invented the serum (or discovered it) shooting himself up with it as they show in the last scene is fantastic! He's already head and shoulders above the rest of humanity due to his great intellect, imagine him with additional power!

This show is reminiscent of "Taken", only in that, only one person (not counting the aliens) had superhuman powers, and in this one, all 4400 have or are developing them, and potentially now all humanity can have them. I see room for all sorts of conflict over controlling who is allowed to get the serum to give them powers, and then there's the question of whether or not they're permanent, or do you need to keep having injections to maintain them?

A great fascinating series with lots of potential to go in many different directions! Highly recommended!

Gandhi (1982)

One of the Greatest movies of all times!
20 April 2006
I am astonished to find that some people were so ignorant as to vote a 1 or 2 on a 10 point scale for this movie! These people must have seen the wrong movie, or they were British, and did not want to accept some of the terrible things that the British Empire used to do. This man is one of the greatest human beings to have ever lived, and this movie portrays this magnificently. I would rate it as the second best movie ever produced by the human race, and an example of what we are capable of. (The best movie would be Schindler's List, which unfortunately shows what the human race can be at both its worst (what the Nazi's were doing), and at its best (what Mr. Schindler was trying to do, risking his life to save others). If you haven't seen Gandhi, do so, it's required of a all human beings! The best parts are those wherein Gandhi uses self-sacrifice to inspire others to be better than they realized they could be.
