Almost unwatchable
7 March 2020
I have worked in the film business for many years and have always admired Ed Norton as an actor. He is often times brilliant. But this film was painful to watch for me. His character was more annoying than anything and the story was weak. Will continue to watch anything that Ed is in but this one was just not good for me.

A breath of fresh air...

Such a great show. Proves everyone doesn't have to be running around naked and or cussing up a storm. Great characters and an amazing backdrop. Like a modern day Gunsmoke with a tough yet honorable lawman. So very sad to see it go....but.. It's a beautiful day at the Red Pony!

The cast is so perfectly balanced that every episode is great. I really like this show. So much talent and the writers are fantastic.

Waste of time

How could anyone spend so much money to annoy an audience?

I felt like I was in a very bad video game. People flying through the air grabbing others who are flying in opposite directions. So much noise like a transformers movie...bang, clang, boom! I felt nothing for the characters at all...I did not care if they lived or died. The grade school attempt to make us feel something between Spock and his reliable squeeze breaking up or....was well, grade school.

Spock sounded more like a stand up comedian than a Vulcan.

The dialogue was so contrived and pushed....no natural flow at all.

I walked out with over 40 minutes left...I never do that but it was annoying to me...I just could not listen to it any more.

I thought the first one was fantastic....Chris Pine had done it! but like Pirates of the Caribbean and some other great firsts....the more they make the worse it gets...the second was just OK....this one? a waste of time!

And....I see on IMDb that the next one is already tooled up to go...NO!!!

Boom Operator should get top billing for most screen time
11 November 2007
I saw the film Near Palm Springs and the boom dipped into the shot at least 15 times. For a while there I thought it was going to have more screen time than Denzel or Russell. One time half the boom microphone was visible. Having said that though I though it was great and Denzel and Russell both showed why they have the gold men on their fire places. I love to watch Denzel on screen...amazing! I never knew this character existed but he was an interesting man in many ways. I love to learn about all types of history and film is my chosen method. I will see this one again I think. And by the way...did any one else see the boom as much as I did? I have to think there was some type of communication problem on the set. I work in the industry and I can't understand how everybody including the director with video assist could not see this.

Not Good!
8 January 2006
This film was such a disappointment that I can not put it into words. A bad movie is bad enough but the only way to make a bad movie worse is to make it long. This movie is both bad and long. Peter Jackson should forget he ever made this turkey and so should everyone else. The Film left me wanting from beginning to end. Jack Black is "WRONG" for the part but yet there he is in all his "WO DUDE" splendor. I think of all the talented film makers out there with no money trying to make films as this gigantic money pit is being filmed and it makes me sick. Especially when you could chop this budget up and make over 25,000 good short films or 150 good full lengths. What a waste. Rent it on DVD but don't bother going to the theatre. I went and camped out for over 3 hours to see another big CGI monkey running around raising hell and actors pretending like they can see it when there was nothing there when it was filmed. Oh, I also saw Peter Jackson getting richer for no reason at all. Still loved the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy though.

This film was everything it was supposed to be!
1 August 2004
People are writing things about this film like it was intended to win the academy award. Clint Eastwood has made several light hearted films about different things in his career that are supposed to make you laugh and they do. This film is both funny and entertaining. I just love when people act like they are the only ones whose opinion really counts when films like this make back 3-6 times their budget at the box office. They act like the entire world is not smart enough to decide what they like and don't like. They say things like `Inflated ticket prices' make the difference. Don't these people know that all things are relevant? If you look at dollar in and dollar out you can tell what is a success and what is not. One of the most successful films of all time is `Billy Jack' and if it sold the same amount of tickets today that is sold when it was released it would have made as much as `Titanic' or `Spiderman'. But dollar for dollar it still was a success. I have worked in the movie industry for 25 years now and don't like films being negatively criticized by people who don't know anything about film making and have obviously never made one. The trailer and poster does not in any way deceive the public as far as what the subject matter is and if you like what the film is about you will not be disappointed. `Bottom Line'!

Very Funny, A laugh a minute
6 December 2002
All the revues said this was just o.k. but I have to tell you different. This film had me in stitches from the start. I am amazed how Robert DeNiro can be so strong in serious roles and yet he does comedy as good as any one. People like Robin Williams are trying to cross over to serious roles as is Jim Carrey and this guy makes it look like anybody could do it. Unreal !! Two thumbs way up for this one.

I see that Sally Field Directs like she acts!
23 November 2001
This was one of the best message films I have ever seen. It is not just a story. It is a lesson on life. Great Casting, great story and great directing. In my book those three things make for a great film. I have to believe that anyone that voted less than an eight on this film has to be on a parallel with the evil stepfather in the film (a person that just never will get it). The story has depth to the point of having hidden depth even beyond that. Sally Field has hit a home run in my book. Watch it, you will be glad you did.

A very well rounded cast and some brilliant writing!
17 April 2001
A great series. The only series in years that I actually knew what time and day it was on. Bruce was the perfect guy to play Brisco. The entire cast worked well for me. I only wish that it would have been around long enough to see the payoff that the writers were setting things up for. I know it was a coming thing and it would have been worth waiting for. They could bring it back any time!
