A Good Start
mickgamer7 July 2020
The premise is unusual and intriguing. The concept sounds absurd but it gets better and makes more sense as it goes along. There is a bit of ambiguity in the first episode and though the production values are high, the storytelling and acting are a little iffy. Stay with it, it really picks up mid-season.

Solid opening

The first episode managers to capture the viewer with action, the supernatural, and humor. A solid start to an exciting new series.

Cool premise but cheesy narrative.
cruise013 July 2020
(3.5 out of 5 stars).

The premise is interesting. Mixing a world with demons feeding on humans in plain sight. While there warrior nuns who work secretly and are at a war against them. Ava taking the reigns with a glowing ring thing on her back. She is trying to keep a hidden profile. Cheesy narrative and direction but looks worth while.

Great Plot
KoriAnders4 July 2020
It has an interesting plot, nuns fighting demons, but the episode is lacking. Ava is experiencing life for the first time and it has a "coming of age" feel to it. Seems like it's leaning more toward drama but hopefully it picks up when Ava meets the other nuns.

Solid opening

A very solid first episode, it set up everything that's needed for the story without dumping too much all at once. The introduction to everything - the warrior nun and the secret order she belongs to, the main character, and the world in the eyes of the sister warriors - is done in a way that's fun and quite easy to grasp. The main character's inner monologue, while cheesy to some, is refreshing to me. It's fun and in other cases it might be unnecessary but I think it's very much appropriate for Ava. Even more so once more about her background is revealed. The premise itself is really compelling and I was very intrigued.

A very good start

Warning: Spoilers
Its interesting how Bible verses are the titles and I have to literally search it. First episode was very good. It seems like we are dealing with demons here and the good guys are the cool ninja nuns. The main character is one of those I like. She reminds me of wynonna earp. I will continue watching this it already has taken my interest. It's fresh unlike those teen angsty drama comedy series. This one is different and also a new title in the film industry. I'm expecting more action on the next episode. I like the cgi here looks like a high budgeted show. The mix of comedy is just right it made me laugh which is a good sign.

Great Show
Gdhumor4yu18 January 2023
I've seen both seasons. First several episodes starts off slow. Lots of character building. It's a solid show, acting gets better with each episode. The cinematography is amazing throughout the series. Diversified cast and storylines. First season doesn't hit it's stride till episode 6. Recommend sticking with it. Once you get into season 2 it's fast paced, lots of action, fight scenes and CGI are top notch. It will leaving you wanting more.

The show has a little bit of everything. I strongly suggest you stick with it. You won't be disappointed. It's a wild ride. They also have a hardcore fandom you can find on Twitter.

Excellent Opening Episode
Hedgehog8429 November 2022
A really great first episode for this show.

Introduces us to the main character, Ava, and some of the supporting ones, while sprinkling some of the show's lore throughout. Does enough to get you interested, but leaves a lot of questions to be answered in later episodes.

A much more serious show than I was expecting but still has a good level of humor in it.

The setting of a secret sect of nuns within the Catholic Church is an interesting one. I'm not usually a fan of fantasy, but this setting is somewhat familiar already, which allowed me to just get on board straight away. It also allows for some amazing locations and cool shots.

Interesting concept, unclear objective
Calicodreamin4 July 2020
An interesting start to the series, enough information to keep you guessing. Though a decided lack of action and clear direction. Not sure where the storyline is going and how the characters fit in. Acting was a bit stiff.

Too boring to be good
choprph6 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Ok, so an angel's halo gets surgically implanted into the corpse of a quadriplegic girl, and it brings her back from the dead. And the Vatican has an order of female templars (the eponymous "Warrior Nuns") who are trying to find this halo and fight demons who seem to want this halo for...some reason.

Sadly, this show makes the cardinal sin of being boring. It's not "too bad it's good," but the actors are flat and without charisma, and the script is pretty dull for a pilot episode. I'll keep watching, because I want it to get better, but this isn't even a stereotypical Netflix show; it's just...lifeless.

Half-baked
allnewsuperfake9 July 2020
If you aren't a fan of first-person-narration, you should probably give this a pass. It's always a risky choice, but this is the worst example of it. It's the wrong genre, and the way it is used here it has the same effect like some kid randomly pulling the handbrake during an already pretty bumpy ride.

Normally, especially in a pilot, you would use a really talented actor with a perfectly trained voice for this, but not here. You also want a writer who hasn't thought up the story in the past two weeks and who really understands every facet of the protagonist. This one has a nine-year-old referencing "The Matrix", which is all you need to know.

Technically it reminds me of the 90s in all the wrong ways. It's certainly not intentional since it's supposed to be a present-day scenario, and from the costumes to the lighting it is uninspired and underdesigned. This kind of premise doesn't go well with realism. and certainly not with the tourism-commerical aesthetics used whenever they are outside.

It's hard to do the cast justice here since they had to work with a shoddy script and bad direction, but so far they are not helping.

Nothing here made me curious, nothing that had enough substance to be at least promising.

A great example is the cliffhanger moment right at the end: It is not the dramatically introduced antagonist, but the protagonist walking away in a badly lit scene with her head cut off by the camera, which is kind of fitting. I think it will be the last thing I've seen from this "Warrior Nun".

"Warrior" Nun??
jkcanewton9 July 2020
Not a good start...with a title like Warrior Nun, wouldn't one think there would be more action sequences?

Main character seems weak
sterhill-116 November 2022
The sets, costumes, actors - except the main character Ava - are phenomenal. Ava has been an orphan quadriplegic for 12 years. She has been wheelchair bound and spoon fed and yet once she has the Halo, she's like every other teenager on earth. Bouncing and wheeling around discos and dances and wearing spangly clothes. You'd think a person who has been shut up in an orphanage all those years would be a bit more cautious and approach this change a little more slowly (?) Yes, the Halo has imbued her body but her mind? I just think they really overdid it. She makes me think of the old Gidget movie character!!

The sets are so gorgeous and the priest and the warrior nuns so very well cast. The lighting deserves mention as it brings a real depth to the look of this production.
