Not that bad.
Rob-O-Cop14 August 2019
The document things angle is wearing a bit thin obviously, I'm not the only one feeling that, but I did quite like the tone of this episode. They've attempted to do these 'clever re-framing' of an episode before and much more disastrously than this one. It was gimmicky and we all know it, and don't really need or want it in our story telling. It didn't really help. But putting that aside for a moment the central story of the woman and son in a mine field surrounded house was a good one, and the explosions were well executed. That would have been a good story to tell in any framing, even the standard one. It felt like there was something underneath it too. I don't think they quite got there with any 'aaahhh' insight but it was going in the right direction instead of being nonsensical which is where this show has often been. The characters were acting human and not too stupid, (apart from morgan running into a live mine field). And we've got some baddie action. They're making more enemies than friends. That was an interesting observation. No clarity on the deal with the oil fields thing but this does look like a worthy and believable angle to take on. It could have been way worse, and it has been. I know my standards and expectations have dropped a lot since I started watching this show, but John Dorie's scenes were fun, as they always are, and I was surprised that a few the other characters managed to deliver something that didn't make me cringe. It wasn't that bad once you get past the clever doco technique thing which nobody really wanted or liked except the writer and director who forced it through.

Documentary in the apocalypse
ninjaboyballer12 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode for me was a bit boring compared to the other ones. Although some parts I did enjoy. I liked some of the jokes as well as the color that the camera filmed stuff provided. The documentary is interesting but also a little corny. Like when Morgan stepped on the land mine or when the land mines were going off, I couldn't help but think: "Why are you recording this?". Yes I know that they want to appeal to their audience, but still. Filming someone on the verge of death is not how you convince the audience that you are decent people. But I also did like the performances and showing the group doing something human was really refreshing. At the end it also sets up Logan as a force to be reckoned with.

Overall, this episode is probably my least favorite of the bunch so far, but some qualities of it did help me forgive it in the end for its stumbles

Final rating: 7.2/10

ZegMaarJus10 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode begins with Morgan and Al. We see a recording of Al she is recording all the interviews of the group. The group is exploding walkers. Morgan has been trapped on a landmine. Tess helps Morgan to deactivate the landmine. We see a new charachter named Wes, he stole Logan's gas. Logan stole Wes his bag. Logan's team shot down Wes his motorcycle. Boring episode of Fear the Walking Dead Season 5, less tention with a boring and endless story. I hope i won't see these kind of episodes anymore.

Boring
pariisaap15 October 2021
This episode was really boring ,Just a bunch of interviews. I don't like See this kind of movies which on that many people talk and nothing happens . Charlie is really annoys me. I hate kids who interfere with adults affairs. My favorite kid is Dylon because unlike Charlie he doesn't try to impress others with imitating their behavior like a monkey.

Why?
ethanjjacobs9 June 2021
I really don't know why the writers decided to make a office style documentary episode. Al recording things was probably the worst thing about season 4, and now there doing more on it.

This episode was just really disappointing and unrealistic, there was so many dangerous things happening and people were just recording it. Al's reasoning for recording all of this makes it is even worse. I enjoyed most of the last 8 episodes but this filler was just disappointing.

5.0/10.

Warning: Spoilers
5x9 Rating: 6.2/10

Storyline: In a found-footage style, Althea interviews the group asking why they want to help others. Morgan explains someone was trying to help him. Alicia explains that she used to kill walkers but now is looking for a new purpose. John explains that this group is rich because they have skills. Their effort now is purely to help others. Al presses Morgan on why he says they all need to start living. "I guess sometimes it's easier to see what other people need help with," he says. Al puts down her camera to kill a walker and then resumes her interview.

Althea recalls how they raided a Big Stop store to fetch camera batteries and equipment. Morgan explains that they made contact with more people, so they got more trucks to cover more ground. Sarah gleefully explains how they took Logan's oil truck and abandoned him on the road. Dwight admits he fell in with the right people and still hopes to find Sherry. Daniel then tells Dwight he wants to cut his hair. "He won't let me give him a haircut," he jokes. Daniel says it will make him look more presentable.

Alicia explains she, Luciana, and Strand are the lead vehicle on supply missions. They map out the roads for the group. Morgan has been training her with aikido. "I think the change is good, it's what I needed," she confesses. It's shown that the group has grown. There are a lot more people in a makeshift community. June explains she runs the caravan with Grace, where they escort people to outposts when necessary. She promises they'll eventually find a place to call home. Al asks Grace why she was checking her neck earlier and Grace says she just wants to be prepared in case she gets sick.

Luciana radios Morgan to a house to help someone named Tess. She tells them she's waiting for her husband to return with her son's asthma medication but won't come outside because of the landmines. On the road, Sarah sings along to truck songs as Charlie, Dwight, and Daniel admit in confessionals they hate it. Back at the house, Morgan tells Tess they're recording the experience so they can prove to future survivors that they're legit. Tess explains she hasn't left the house since the onset of the apocalypse and Morgan promises to stay there until her husband returns.

Elsewhere, Alicia, Strand, and June search supplies from the pharmacy that Tess said her husband was at. They don't find him so they split up to look. Alicia finds a tree with "If you're reading this then you're still here" painted on it. Alicia admits that Madison would have loved it. Suddenly, Strand saves her from a walker. She reveals on camera she hasn't killed any since the plane.

John tells the camera that it makes sense Morgan is so dedicated to this mother/son scenario due to his loses. He also mentions that he and Morgan have each other's backs. Back at the house, the walkers break through the fence and get immediately blown up by a landmine. Meanwhile, June reveals on camera that the walker Strand saved Alicia from was Tess' husband. When Morgan hears the son cry out from the house, he sprints through the yard to get him. However, he freezes inches away from the porch after Al spots a landmine next to his foot. John and Luciana join him as Alicia, Strand, and June arrive with the inhaler.

Morgan radios Tess that they have the inhaler but she has to come outside to get it. He then breaks the news that her husband is dead and she needs to come get the medicine. She tearfully asserts her husband is still out there. Al instructs Morgan on how to navigate the mine he's standing on. He digs around it as John hands him a screwdriver to get to the fuse. Al admits it's a 50/50 chance she's right.

Morgan prepares to pull the firing pin until Tess radios them to stop. She finally emerges from her house and admits her husband isn't coming back. She hands him a clothespin to use as Morgan tells the others to back up. He successfully takes his foot off of the mine and once out of range, it explodes. Morgan returns to give Tess and her son the inhaler. The group is proud that the woman stepped out for the first time in two years to help them and they were there to help her. Tess is emotional as Morgan comforts her over the loss of her husband. He reflects on his family, opening up about how difficult it can be to say goodbye.

That night, Tess and her son join the group as they enjoy a recipe Grace hadn't cooked up until now. Morgan asks Alicia if she wants to practice tomorrow but she has found a new purpose. "I wanna know who is painting those trees," she says. Al then asks the group what each want: Morgan longs to say goodbye to his wife and son, Alicia explains that she needs help finding her own way to make things better, John wants to make the world a better place, June vows to find them a permanent home, Grace has a lot more things she wants to do, Strand wants to make the most of his second chance, Daniel hopes to make Ofelia proud, Dwight wants to end each day making someone else's better, Charlie wants to do right by the group, Sarah wants to keep the truck running, and Al just wants to make sure these stories are more than tapes. The tape concludes with everyone pleading with future survivors to help others.

It's revealed the tape is being watched by a survivor named Wes, who is holed up in an old gas station store. He considers reaching out on his walkie but decides against it. He packs his things before pressing his ear to a locked door. He then stares at a "Take what you need" box before leaving.

Outside, Wes gases up a motorcycle as Logan and his crew arrive. Wes tells them he doesn't want any trouble but Logan tells his people to take his gas and demands to know where the oil fields are. Wes insists that he doesn't know and he isn't with the people on the tape, claiming he stole the gas. Logan admits that he likes him but has his people shoot up Wes' motorcycle so he can't follow them. Logan tosses him a radio and orders him to call Morgan's group for help with escaping an approaching herd and to tell them that they are making more enemies than friends out there, while his crew has more bullets than they know what to do with. Wes is then left behind as Logan's crew drive away.

Diary of the Dead inspired episode that turned out quite well
Holt34412 August 2019
This wasn't a perfect episode but ain't bad either, it had some serious Diary of the Dead feels and I loved that movie, Dan Liu who was the director of the episode and the crew behind the cameras did a good job at capturing the camera point of view. The story telling for this episode made us go deeper into the characters thoughts and mind, it was the highlight of the episode. There were also some great acting from all the main characters.

The ending was perfect, having a character driven episode end in a way that makes us want more as it introduced a new character and also showing more of the villain group we saw in the first half and heard from S4, the showrunners have done a great job at building up the tension and the world building around this trucker duo, I can't wait for the rest of the episodes.

The Office.... with zombies
aggieswine26 November 2020
What a wonderful episode. It's like watching an episode of the office with all the 4th wall breaking interviews except you have a horde of zombies stepping on landmines.

A completely underrated episode.

S5.E9 - Not that Great, Not that Bad [6.5/10]
panagiotis19936 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S5. E9) My Reaction / Review for Fear The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 9 ''Channel 4'': Episode 8 was good and I gave it a rating of 8/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. This episode has a really low rating on IMDB, a 5.6/10. Let's see if this rating is right or wrong. Dwight still has hope that he can find his wife, that's good. Wait the whole episode is filmed by Al? I don't really like that. I see some new faces, new survivors. I thought that they left behind Al's truck and the rest of the cars, how do they have them now? Im I missing something? Why do we spend so much time on this female survivor that doesn't want to come out of the house? Nice to see all of them having a good time. Wow things got really cringey. Someone, a man saw the tapes. Logan is back. Overall a good episode but not great, my rating is 6.5/10.

Stop Complaining!
elias-3401312 August 2019
This is not a 10/10 but it isn't a 5/10 This episode captures moments that aren't usually seen in both versions of The Walking Dead. A real insight into what the group is trying to accomplish. Real character development without the over dramatic lines.

Give this episode a chance please before you bash it for no reason.

Can't believe I'm saying this but....
thepaddywagon14 August 2019
I'm twenty minutes in and I am actually enjoying this episode. I have been so disappointed in this season, storylines, writing, acting all terrible. I'm finding this episode a welcome relief. Based on reviews, I expected to hate it and nearly didn't even watch it. It's different and kind of interesting. Please God this can be a turning point to a once terrific show.

Worst episode of the entire series
callcooldude11 August 2019
Just when I thought this show couldn't get any worse, they release this episode. Nothing of importance happened at all, and this was supposed to be the midseason premiere! It was just filled with boring dialogue about stuff we've heard about so many times in the past. These showrunners are ruining this show, GET RID!

Really loved it
WMV198131 August 2020
Why does everyone seem to be so hellbent on action packed episodes? I loved this one even though it is aimed at what drives the characters. This series is so much better than most stuff on tv... And much better than it is given credit for!

A "Very Special FTWD"
gflemeister12 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I knew the reviews would be negative for this episode. Yeah, it was a very special FTWD. Regardless and to hell with the pretension, It was an emotional episode. That being said, the running and ducking and bobbing and weaving action wise in a "Z" world is not always necessary. The main thing that has kept people watching both FTWD & TWD is each characters emotional arc in their story. It's about the walkers but it's never been about the walkers. It's about folks trying to stay alive amidst all of this chaos. FTWD's characters and storylines, because of where they are geographically are really fractured. These characters have never been as fleshed out like TWD family. That's why seeing everybody come clean about themselves, say who and where they are in all of this and then coming together at the end and accomplishing what they sent out to do was a refreshing reminder of why we all watch anything really, in the franchise to begin with. Well done!!

Crappy
elvis-1198611 August 2019
I was not expecting this type of episode for a series that is about Zombie apocalypse. Wtf FTWD has gone over the cliff and it looks like no one will save it. Just plain, boring, crappy episode. What's next? A mucial episode??? If TWD got better last season than this show is just going down. Needs a new show runner. And for the sake of zombie apocalypse bring back the zombies!!!

Short disjointed documentation style. It was boring with no plot or charcter development. No tension. I did not care about what the characters were doing.

Just put this show out of its misery already
wlion211012 August 2019
I wish we could go back to that Season 3 finale and continue the story with Dave Erickson. Too bad it would never happen. This show has become a total disaster since Ian Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss took over, that's what you got for hiring stupid writers from a fairy tale series like Once Upon A Time to run your show.

I cringed at every single line of the characters since this whole nonsense "Take what you need, leave what you don't" storyline. It went from a thrilling Season 3 to a boring, unrealistic, uncreative show. You can't just help people, giving supplies without getting to know them, despite all the risks, even ignoring your own lives!

And even the villains are a bunch of idiots. They just waste a bunch of bullets just to destroy a fricking motorbike??? Omg I thought last season Martha was the worst villain I've ever since in this universe, but now Logan can top that, cause he's such an interesting character right?

Heard that they had renewed this show for a sixth season, and i hope it will be the last too. The only way you can save this show is fire those terrible pair of showrunner before it's too late.

Interesting but not exciting
tylervt12 August 2019
I almost never review episodes but the ammount of hate this show is getting is ridiculous. I think people just wanna b*tch about something. This episode was really cool & very interesting. It used a really good twist on the formula, one that i enjoyed, by showing us most the episode thru Althea's tapes. (and the rest of the crew now) I always thought Althea was one of the better charcters and i would think that what shes been trying to do would be a good idea and something that should be done if this was real life, so the fact that the show progressed her agenda furter i think is great. The only problem with this episode i think, is that it was NOT an exciting episode. There was only one bit of action/intensity in the episode but it was dulled because it was shown in a flashback/recording so we know how it turns out. Overall i just wish people would lower their rediculously high bar of what THEY think this show should be, instead of what the show has always been

Probably the best episode in a long time.
intrepidami12 August 2019
I see it ticked off the diehards that just tune in for the gratuitous big scenes, that often involve stupid moves by the characters to set up the big pay off. People actually did smart things, and because they did they didn't get overwhelmed and have to fight their way out of trouble that they brought on themselves.

People actually pointed out noise would be drawing in more walkers!

I've pointed out several times it would be nice to see them use their experience with what attracts walkers more effectively. Like for instance gathering alarm clocks and using them to confuse walkers away. I saw in the upcoming preview they do use this type of method.

In a previous episode all one person had to do was turn the volume up and drop the device and he could have walked away, but instead he continued to carry it which of course led to the big scene where he needed saving.

They don't have to roam around like clueless idiots each episode to get to the big scene. They should do more proactive things.

What is going on behind the scenes?
dontspamme-7607813 August 2019
Every so often, FTWD puts out an episode where you wonder if the producers are hoping that every viewer will turn it off midway and never watch another show, ever again.

This is one such episode.

Now they Go to Shaky Cam in Order to Annoy us.
arfdawg-112 August 2019
A new all time low for this horrible series. The entire first half is Blair Witch shaky cam BS that will drive you nuts and put you to sleep.

My suggestion is to FF till there is only 35 minutes left. Does it get better? Marginally. But at least they are not doing those stoopid first person interviews -- until the end.

Please cancel this show!
