Drama at its best.

Wow!

Kenzo finally meets up with his estranged brother Yuto, but his attempts to get him to return home fail, even the explanation of his father's illness isn't enough, Kenzo has the added complication of Taki, his daughter, arriving in London.

I absolutely loved every single minute of it, this truly is drama of outstanding quality. It is multi layered to the point of being complicated, but it's done in a way that isn't confusing, the last thing you'll ever be with this, is bored.

The acting is spellbinding, Will Sharpe is stealing it for me as Rodney, just searched him, I can't believe it's the guy from Defending the Guilty, talk about versatile.

The ending implies carnage, I cannot wait to see what happens next, it's that good that I've cancelled today's plans to see what happens next.

Love it, 9/10.

Even though Giri/Haji is an eight part television thriller. It has the engine of a modern Japanese crime drama with multiple stories. You never find yourself getting bored.

Flashbacks, widescreen and ending where you cannot wait to find out next.

Kenzo meets his brother Yuto and the message is 'You owe me.' It is even printed on the road. Yuto has no intention in returning to Japan. Back in Japan the police chief upset that a Yakuza chief has been having sex with his wife. It has left Tokyo in the mercy of a fully fledged gang war.

For Kenzo, if the threat from Abbot is not enough. His daughter Taki turns up in London. At least she finds a rebellious kindred spirit in Rodney.

It all leads to various impending showdowns both in Tokyo and in London. This is storytelling cut clean with a katana sword.
