Learning about the Queen of Kawaii....
planktonrules5 July 2018
Kawaii is a Japanese term that is becoming more well known around the world. It's a word used to describe uber-cuteness....a cuteness so overwhelmingly cute that even Oscar the Grouch would succumb to it! And, the Queen of Kawaii in this episode of "The Toys That Made Us" is Hello Kitty and the Sanrio Company. The show follows its roots from the 1960s and shows how it was eventually able to not only create a huge phenomenon in Japan but throughout much of the world. Very entertaining, fully of interesting people...and well worth seeing. Heck, I'd recommend you see it just to see the smiling face of Hello Kitty's creator!

Originally, I gave this one a 9. Then I remembered that Paris Hilton was in it a few times, so I deducted a point.

Hello Kitty is NOT a Cat?
GunnersMate20 June 2018
The Hello Kitty installment of The Toys that Made Us is a terrific (and very funny) blend of business risk and moxie and cultural blending. Even if the viewer has never been a fan of the iconic kawaii kitty, the exploration of how Kitty White was created, has evolved, and its pop-cultural influences are fascinating and extremely entertaining. Is Kitty White a cat? Does she have a mouth or a boyfriend? Sit back, ponder, and enjoy.
