Fine Season Finale
songod-9500324 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This could also work as a series finale though the show has since been renewed for a seventh.

This season was supposed to be an abbreviated one. 13 eps I understand. However the ratings remained solid and the fan base solid and so it was expended to 21. Still though it was thought to be it's final. But it remained as popular as ever and so a 7th season was green lit.

You can tell this was meant to be it. And a perfect ending it would have been! Our legendary characters right where they belong - their literary home.

I assume this is it for the NYC cast which is refreshing as the dynamic, while still working, was going to get dicey. Marcus going to be a US Marshall... Holmes never forgetting Gregson was willing to toss Joan to the wolves for his daughter... they could never be the same.

I look forward to the new adventures of Sherlock and Watson in London!

The opening of next season
crystaljones8115 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This season finale was crazy!! I was so mad that the female FBI agent was gunning so hard for Joan. As if these people were real. Lol! I was VERY surprised who was at fault bc I had thoughts that it was 2 other people. Either the FBI agent (but couldn't figure out motive) or the Captain bc of his care for Joan.

The opening of next season to follow the ending of this one will likely be a very interesting turn of events if the writing stays on point or it can go to hell. I believe it will be the former based off of the past 6 seasons' turn of events. I have the utmost faith that they will fix everything and free Joan's name. I never write reviews but felt I needed to weigh in. I do realize that this was supposed to be the show's finale but it got its renewal despite the plans to end. I feel that the writers did an awesome way of twisting what they had into being able to continue on the show's storyline and also giving it a new environment for fresh new feels and stories.

I absolutely love the characters in this show. They're the heart of this show. The dynamic, ambiance, the multiple storylines and the love for the greater good that is at the soul of this show appeals to all of my senses. I'm so grateful that this show is still around. Long live Joan and Sherlock. Can NOT wait until the next season starts in London!!

Fantastic Finale to a Decent Season
Anonnamus9 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Elementary has had its ups and downs and like many other long-running series, the quality tends to suffer the longer it's on. Season 6 overall has been terrific, in my opinion, in consistency and interesting storylines. This finale didn't disappoint, and could have done just as well as a series finale.

  • Michael Rowan began the season as a promising villain, one that could rival Moriarty in intelligence and evilness. He ended with a whimper, becoming an overhyped plot device, used just to explain a transition to a new country for the dynamic duo.

  • The FBI really doesn't care about plausibility or evidence. I'm sure Joan Watson, an almost 50 year-old tiny little woman beat and killed a man twice her size. With two broken ribs.

  • I have never liked Hannah, and I like her even less now. Not because she refuses to cop to her murdering a man who fully deserves it, but because she is the reason her father is committing a felony and betraying two people who have come to mean a whole lot to him over the last several years. I truly hope she gets her comeuppance.

  • Why did Michael Rowan call William Bazemore to proclaim his innocence the seconds before he was killed, when hours earlier he attacked Joan because Bazemore was dead by overdose and he blamed her?

I really am excited to see their dynamic in a change of scenery, but I will truly miss Gregson and Marcus. Season 6 was satisfying and excelled in comparison to the previous two.

Quite a Stretch
Hitchcoc21 February 2019
If I judged most American crime series on their realism, I wouldn't have much good to say. I found that the ending to this one made a mistake in its dealings with Michael, the horror on earth serial killer. Plot elements were thrown in that put an entire new slant on the show. How the endearing peripheral characters are dealt with will be interesting.

Watson prime suspect but only has motive, absurd!
CrimeDrama124 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
FBI Agent Mallick is the worst part of this compelling storyline. The writers didn't do a good job explaining the timeline, not to mention means and opportunity. It appears the serial killer was murdered less than 48 hours after he attacked Watson. Sure, Watson has an uncorroborated alibi but with her injuries I don't see her having any advantage while attacking someone and how could she possibly find him? Did Agent Mallick ever interview Hannah Gregson? A NYPD officer's best friend was one of the victims so they would have a very strong motive. Hannah has better means and possible opportunity than Joan does. Announcing that Watson was the prime suspect the minute the killer's body is found is ridiculous. Otherwise, I love this episode.

S6: Continues to feel spread thin by the nature of it as a product, but still a solidly entertaining network show
bob the moo9 March 2019
After a strong conclusion to the previous so-so season, season 6 came in as what I presumed was to be the last one they make. The show very much had felt like it was in a 'case per week' rut, with the same dynamics but different details, and not much of consequence happening. It was disappointing then to find the show very quickly settled back into that same routine, albeit with Sherlock's illness playing some part in the first set of episodes. The injection of a serial killer into the mix helped a little bit, but not enough was done with him and Sherlock to really make it work. Outside of that, what we get is the same polished and professional show benefiting from a talented cast, but yet having little in the way of heart.

Of course this should not be a surprise by this point; Elementary has always been a network show first and foremost, and as such it is a product being sold. It is a product I enjoy, but it is something I watch rather than really get into. The nature of that impacted on this season directly, with the original order only being 13 episodes, then 21 episodes leading to the series closing out, only then to find that it was recommissioned for a seventh season for 2019. This process line approach means the episodic structure dominates, and it also means that the thread to take the show to the finish line is made lesser by being padded around. It still entertains but it also feels all too tidy and lacking threat; as with previous seasons, the main thread is interesting and gives the season its best moments, but there is too much other material which is only okay.

The cast continue to give good value, and the lead duo continue to work well together in their odd-couple way. Guest appearances are good, although all too often any mystery is taken away by the suspect who is a well-known supporting actor face. Production values are high and generally it is all well put together; it is just a shame that it is so very much a product, because the really good bits get spread thinner than they can cope with, and the whole thing is lesser for it.

Foolish and illogical
martingibbs-3189121 February 2022
I have to say I was extremely disappointed by the lazy writing of this episode. Why on earth did the writers have the two main characters, who pride themselves on their intelligence and cold logic, act with a total lack of either. I know that they had to end the season somehow, but it was very frustrating to watch Holmes and Watson act with such mind boggling stupidity and Captain Gregson to behave with such a lack of integrity, when he has shown nothing but that in every other episode. To have all three characters act so out of character made for a very frustrating and difficult to watch episode.

Really have to suspend your disbelief for this one
tert723 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Watching this show you have to suspend your disbelief quite often, but still enjoyable. But this episode is really really poorly written or lazy. So according to the fbi, Joan, after being attacked in her home, by a serial killer, stabs him with a propeller, and according to the blood on it, went very deep. But after having 2 broken ribs, she was supposed to have tracked him down beat him and throw him in a dumpster. Even if she had done it, what court in the world would convict her???? Then we find out it was the captains daughter.... Sherlock is pissed (this episode and next) that the captain doesn't make his daughter turn herself in, while saying numerous times if Joan had done it, Sherlock would make sure she got away with it. Because she is his "friend" so he thinks it's more important for his friend to get away with killing, but mad at the captain because he wants to protect his daughter. That is beyond hypocritical. Really really really have to suspend your belief for this one.

Terrible Episode
dlk26776 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Here is my huge problem with this episode in particular. I just don't believe the FBI would try this extremely hard to put all the blame on one woman who was almost one of Michael's victims. Not to mention Joan had two broken ribs and is a petite woman. How on earth was she supposed to kill him and lift this much larger person into the trash. Not to mention the only evidence is home saying the name Joan. No other evidence, no other proof is was actually Joan. No dna, no video, no linking crime scene evidence, no video showing they were even in the same area. I know FBI Agent Mallick is trying to make a name for herself but how is it going to look when you are proven absolutely wrong for trying to blame an innocent woman. Let's also not discuss Parminder Nagra weird, altered, monotone voice.

On another note, I get really annoyed with how Captain Gregson treats Sherlock at times. There is never any grace given! With all the money and advantages Sherlock had growing up he still had a very difficult time. His father is evil. His mother died when he was 8. I'm pretty sure Sherlock has a mild form of autism. Sherlock solves so many cases for Major Cases. So many that Captain Gregson has been awarded. The Captain never pulls a punch with Sherlock. Any minor mistake or slip up Gregson acts like it's the end of the world. Sherlock closes these cases, Sherlock gave Gregson a diamond ring so he could marry his girlfriend with MS, Sherlock gets Bell an amazing job. Sherlock is always there when Gregson needs him making look amazing. What a freaking double standard now that his daughter MURDERED someone and Joan is going to pay the price and be sent to prison! Gregson is a hypocrite. He acts like he's doing this major favor for Sherlock when quite frankly it's the other way around. I have gotten really annoyed with how Captain Gregson has treated Sherlock in other episodes but this one is the worst because it's glaringly obvious that Gregson has an entire book of rules he uses only for Sherlock and no one else.

Terribly disappointed
vmadhukrishna3 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Running like fugitives for a crime they didn't do is dishonorable. The build up given for Michael Rowan the whole season makes everyone expect his story arc to end in the finale. Maybe the writers thought that to be routine and decided to kill him off in the penultimate episode. But the way it is presented is utterly disappointing to me. There can be more respectable ways of making the duo shift to London, but they had to disgrace them, which is just sad. Better to call off the series, now that they reached London, any story that the makers are planning will only become a deviation.
