Harassment movie
121mcv7 September 2021
Unfortunately harassment is ubiquitous, fat, short, Asian, European, black or white, German French, Scottish or Irish ... this is a story of one mans stance against harassment.

A good TV movie worthwhile seeing
-62823 August 2019
The TV special shown in Australia, The Final Quarter, was a documentary developed by Australian filmmaker Ian Darling detailing the events surrounding the final playing years of champion AFL footballer Adam Goodes, during which opposing teams' supporters began booing him with increasing animosity. The movie attempts valiantly to avoid taking sides, instead showing various points of view presented by a range of commentators between 2013 - 2015, both supportive and critical. It is a good movie worthwhile seeing. A movie written by Stan Grant, The Australian Dream, which was released shortly afterwards, is also a good movie worthwhile seeing for a different perspective. However, as a review of both sides of a divisive issue, The Final Quarter is considerably shorter and manages to cover the main issue quite adequately and more succinctly.

AUSTRALIAN RACISM AT ITS WORST
edhart0820 June 2019
Very hard to watch in places as this great Australian Athlete was vilified and booed over years at the hands of AFL Spectators and Dumb and Dumber ''Commentators'' like Eddie McGuire, Sam Newman and Andrew Bolt plus the likes of Miranda Devine from The Daily Telegraph. This 75 minute Doco should be shown at all schools and Sporting Clubs in Australia.

Heads should have rolled

There are some media personalities that, editing for effect notwithstanding, should have lost their jobs. Watch it and you'll see who the good guys and girls are. I hope, passionately, that this film is shown to school children and all adults alike and that it helps transform what is otherwise a great country.

We as Australians need to own the fact that we invaded this country and literally shot the indigenous population for sport, through ignorance and fear. And nothing has changed. Walled Ali has it banged to rights in this astounding documentary.

My Review- The Final Quarter. Rating 10/10

This excellent documentary directed by Ian Darling is not to be missed you can catch it on TEN Play or Cinema release . I'm not interested in football at all but this is so much more than about Australian sport .

The Final Quarter produced by Shark Island Productions, is a 2019 Australian documentary directed by Ian Darling about the final stages of the Australian football career of Adam Goodes, during which he was the target of repeated booing and a insults from spectators on both sides. Adam Goodes 2014 Australian of the Year and famous Sydney Swans player highlighted the ugly underbelly of racism in Australia and did no more really than Rosie Batty 2015 Australian of the Year did to highlight DomesticViolence .

Adam Goodes , dared to be a proud First Australian and when he performed an indigenous war dance, similar to a much performed Maori Haka was taunted and booed by the crowds at his matches and called disgusting names by some.

As this provoking and disturbing 75 minute World Class Documentary shows the vilification and hatred stirred up by loud moth shock jocks like Melbourne television football commentator Sam Newman helped cause a toxic atmosphere at matches where Adam Goodes was playing and resulted in the player retiring as a result of the trauma insults and rejection that just got worse.

It shows clearly that Adam Goodes was a proud First Nation Australian taking a proud stand for his people but in doing so exposed the ugly underbelly of racism in some parts of Australia and also shows the ugliness of a bullying crowd mentality,I'm so glad I watched this terrific film.

MUST SEE BUT HARD TO WATCH
lyninbyron21 July 2019
After watching this documentary, I was so proud of Adam Goodes and his behavior throughout what was another difficult and trying time in his life. He rose to the top of his profession, received the top accolades and awards, as well as "Australian of the Year", with all the humility and grace that is so often rarely seen these days. Adam will go down in history as one of our most finest, deserving and influential Australians. The cream of the crop!

But now to the booing crowds. What a disgrace! You know you are disgraceful and now, thanks to TV, we all saw you at you worst. Your actions speak to your characters, or rather the lack there of. And to think, you will all go down in history as bullying morons. Bad karma indeed.

Lastly, to the bottom of the barrel scum who are inflicted upon us, no matter how hard we try to avoid their bigoted, malicious, hateful, uninformed, opinions.....the media commentators! Andrew Bolt, Alan Jones, Miranda Divine, Steve Price and the ridiculous Sam Newman. It warms my heart, that all of you will go down in our nations history as warty, plague ridden, red neck cockroaches, infesting our lives with your filth but ultimately showing us what evil tongues can spit out. A great lesson for the youth of tomorrow.

A huge congratulations to all involved in the fact gathering and making of this documentary. You have provided a hugely valuable resource, to be shown to all, young and old, the damaging effects that racism and the opinions of decaying old white people have on our nations heart and soul.

Adam Goodes, thank you for being such a fantastic, talented and beautiful role model to us all. Maybe your best is yet to come, I wish you great luck and joy.

No surprise there is a one star rating
stuart_snowden17 August 2019
The one star rating alone is enough to show some of the issues in Australia. It's amazing how little vitriol there was before he become an advocate about his heritage. The excuses of how he played covers the intolerance that people have. As I said before - where was all of this in the 10 or so years prior to 2013?

Fantastic message - there's a better alternative
mitch_macka24 February 2020
This is a great look into our country and our shortcomings, our mistreatment of one of our great citizens. However the film is just a compilation of of archive footage, we're given no insight into the feelings, meaning or thought process to key people involved. I would say the Australian dream by Stan Grant Is a more thorough look into these events.

When Your Country Disappoints
damianphelps8 February 2022
This was a horrible time in Australian sport and there are thousands of Australians who should be ashamed of themselves.

Goodes was a champion athlete who was victimised for defending himself and his culture.

The downside of the film is that its nothing new to the story, its essentially an overview of what happened using footage already seen if you lived through it.

Hopefully Goodes finds his way back to the sport in some capacity when he is ready but not because it will be good for the sport or for the fans but good for him.

Thank you for making this film
eyeintrees16 December 2019
A shameful indictment of Australian society, culture, media and power mongers. This behaviour toward an astonishingly talented and brilliant AFL player should have been stopped by the powers that be and was not. It should never have occurred. The one outstanding light in this film was the incredibly decent and honourable behaviour of Adam Goodes.

Reflections

Look in the mirror Australia. We don't deserve Adam Goodes. One of our top athletes brought down by his fellow nation in his final professional playing years. I don't even follow the AFL footy code but can respect what he has brought to the game, on and off the field. I stand with Adam Goodes.

Good on ya Goodsie for being brave enough to stand up for yourself and the Australian Indigenous community against bigotry and racism.
