For Centuries Sailors carried Two of everything as Backups in their "Ditty Bag" since they might be on board a ship for Months to Years.

For quite some time NASA has had "Redundant Systems" and Backups including "Manual Overrides", and even "Old School Analog (On Off Switches and Valves)".

If i want to watch a science fiction series i don't want to watch grey's anatomy. I think there is a big problem in this episode, and, in general, in the ep2 and ep3. There is a good acting and a good director, but it's not a science fiction series, and, for someone like me that thought he was watching "a story about the first men and women on mars", until now, it's a big disappointment
