Here's proof that NCIS can be great!

Warning: Spoilers
After the first 6 episodes of 15th season being fine to underwhelming, I thought that one of my most beloved shows was going under. I never expected to see a great episode. "Burden of proof" IS an awesome entry to the 15th season, which I have been waiting for a LONG time. Yes, "Skeleton crew" was good, but "Burden of proof" improves that story so much.

Let's start with good.

. The story of this episode is the most engaging I have seen in 2 years. From the first few minutes, tension of the case is already built with very effective opening sequence, which worked like magic. The narrative about Gabriel Hicks and is he innocent of bludgeoning a marine officer to death or not is compelling, let alone dramatic. I love stories, which do not play by the standards.

. The acting is also wonderful. Have always liked the main cast, but Graham Hamilton gives an outstanding performance as Gabriel Hicks.

. The subplot about Jacqueline Sloanes father making a mistake fit in with the main plot as well.

But...

. The final twist of this episode, while extremely effective and clever, can come of forced- the guy we are supposed to feel sorry for turns out to be the killer after all. It felt bit like cheating to be honest..

That being said, "The Burden of proof" is a compelling must watch for fans.

Excellent and brutal

Wow. Great story with great writing. Some very good character development. We think we know what is going on but no the story is deeper and more complicated. Brutal because of the strain it puts on Gibbs' friendship with Formell. And the last scene? Ouch. But it ain't over.

Interesting ending but...

Warning: Spoilers
Did everyone forget why Hicks' conviction was overturned? The eyewitness stated that she saw an African-American man in his 40s at the scene, confirmed by Fornell (who originally covered it up). That is a bigger deal than Gibbs thinking Hicks lied to him. So the ending is a bit strange. It appears the writers were messing with the viewers. Hicks may have something to hide but there doesn't appear to be any hard evidence that proves he is a serial killer. If I was Hicks in the final scene and I saw two federal agents watching me, I might just have some fun with them.

A very special NCIS

Eeeekkk heavy, heavy!!

This was a great episode that seemed to part from the usual lightness of NCIS. But no worries. Great story telling.

Great job writers et al!

Burden of Proof

Warning: Spoilers
I am glad they did the twist with the released prisoner actually being a murderer, too often when shows take up these cases the guy is always innocent. That was good, but Torres bragging about his arms, the ridiculous wolf feet thing with Bishop, and a lack of Ducky made this a mediocre episode at best for a show that finally ventured outside its formula a bit.
