The video and the song are juxtapose

A great song and a classic. I was in my 20s when Loverboy was popular and outer space was a huge theme (ET, Flash Gordon, Star Wars). Videos were in their infancy and creativity in 1984 was pretty much unheard of except from Michael Jackson (who at the time were only able to be seen on televised specials and dance clubs). Personally, I think the video theme is too conflicting to the yummy honey sweet voice and romantic lyrics of the song. But all pop artist were doing vids to entertain and not simply as a homage to the lyrics right around this time. If the costumes here look familiar at all, it might be because in the 90s a little show called Dinosaurs had costumes that bear a strong resemblance to some of the characters in this 1984 video. MTV skyrocketed into fame once Michael Jackson and his label forced MTV to open the doors for people like Rick James, Billy Ocean, and Donna Summer. Prior, MTV was not at all well-known and struggled to convince artists and their labels to invest in a music video to air. Most artists and bands displayed were just live concerts or live recordings with no artistic value. Billy was one of the trend-setters! Great artist and still making music!
