"Overwatch: Hero" is a 7-minute animated short film from 2016 and the title gives away here what this one is about. It is based on the popular video (I think online) game Overwatch and is about a hero character very basically speaking. It is one by two (according to imdb) Overwatz short films by director Jeremiah Johnson and these are his only works so far apparently. The writer Andrew Robinson is far more prolific if you take a look at all the TV stuff he has worked on in recent years. Okay, back to this one here. We have a little girl who is sent by her mother to buy something, but she runs into a group of thugs in the process of beating up some knight/robot creature and then their attention switches to the girl and they take her money. Not much later the title character shows up and it is not entirely clear if his mission is to restore order or get the money back and give it to the girl. But he sure is needed when a grenade almost tears the teenager into a million pieces. That's when she realizes who he is and that there is no need to be afraid. So she goes home and tells her mother about what just happened. Only minor weak momentg was for me that one of the bad guys out of nowhere gets a heavily blazing firearm out of nowhere. This was for spectacle purposes without a doubt and as such it worked. So I think this was a good watch overall. The story was nothing really new by any means, but fun to watch for this short duration and visually it did look fine indeed. It's not that I want to start playing Overwatch all of a sudden now inspired by this, but it got me a bit curious. Also about the other work(s) by Johnson. So yeah, unless you really hate animation, go check this one out. You can easily enjoy it too if you know absolutely nothing about Overwatch just like myself. Thumbs up. Good work by everybody involved, also the voice actors.
