Back in 2022, the eight-episode feature following the mysterious adventures of Wednesday Addams in Nevermore Academy became Netflix’s most-watched original series ever, beating even the most hyped seasons of Stranger Things and Bridgerton.
Filming of the follow-up has just started in Ireland, and we can finally have a closer look at the second season’s cast changes. Luckily, Wednesday’s main star, the new scream queen Jenna Ortega, will reprise her already iconic role, despite her dropping out of another Netflix’s project, the animated series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.
Wednesday Regulars: Who Returns in Season 2?
Firstly, we’ll have some characters elevated to the status of the show’s regulars. These include Catherine Zeta-Jones as Wednesday’s mother, Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, the father of the family, Isaac Ordonez as their son Pugsley, and also Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Ritchie Santiago, the deputy of the local police department.

As part of the report, Disney revealed that its general entertainment streamer Hulu had gained 500,000 customers during the quarter. Its new total is now 50.2 million, up from the 49.7 million the streamer claimed at the end of its fiscal first quarter. Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.

It’s rare to find a star whose taste you can trust beyond their performance; the kind of actor who’s proven to be as discerning in their projects’ quality as they are in choosing rewarding individual roles. There simply aren’t that many Julia Louis-Dreyfuses or Carrie Coons out there, with either impeccable résumés or a Hall of Fame-worthy batting average. But Elisabeth Moss is among them.
As a TV lead, she’s steered some of the modern era’s greatest programs: seven masterful seasons of “Mad Men,” two staggering seasons of “Top of the Lake,” one stirring season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” (and a few more she carried on her back). Even her single misfire is minor: The 2022 Apple TV+ series “Shining Girls” is more intriguing and better than its (lack of) recognition. Plus, it arrived amid a smattering of strong film work that befit her premium brand.

In the new FX drama The Veil, a colleague of British spy Imogen Salter pleads with her to change strategy on a new undercover assignment. “Please don’t speak to the real me,” she replies. “It is extremely unhelpful.”
The Veil repeatedly tries to figure out where the line exists between this persona and the real her, whose name isn’t even Imogen. The problem is that the version of the series about “Imogen” is vastly more entertaining, but the show mostly seems interested in her true identity.

Review: Since her breakout role in Mad Men as Peggy Olsen, Elisabeth Moss has turned in stellar performance after performance. Still, her latest project, The Veil, puts her into a role that we would commonly expect to see from male actors in action-heavy projects. We meet Elisabeth Moss’ Portia in the first scene of FX’s new Hulu drama The Veil, striding confidently through a busy international airport, stiletto heels precariously high, her mouth a gash of crimson lipstick. She’s meeting a shady businessman named Tomas, and they toast to a transaction successfully made. But several seconds later, Interpol rushes in and she chides Tomas for all the criminal details he spilled in the previous 37 days. She walks away, leaving him fuming and in custody.
Her name isn’t actually Portia. As she leaves, aspect and tone instantly changed, she’s already arranging her next destination — Istanbul — and her next identity, telling a person on the telephone, “I would like my name to be Imogen.” She will be Imogen for the rest of The Veil.
It’s here, two minutes into the show, that eagle-eyed viewers and English majors should already be putting together certain pieces.

If nothing else, The Veil is certainly efficient. While streaming series tend to stretch out their plots for far too many episodes and multiple seasons, Elisabeth Moss’ new Hulu thriller (premiering next Tuesday, April 30 on the streamer) is told across six lean episodes that mostly clock in well under an hour. Having seen all six, I can say it’s an effectively tense and propulsive drama that scratches that Homeland itch, with its tale of a damaged spy forming a close bond with a possible terrorist. But even in six hours, it still finds time for unnecessary subplots and bizarre...

Another legal drama is coming to our screens this summer, and this time, Jake Gyllenhaal is taking the lead.
While there's no shortage of legal and crime dramas, we certainly aren't going to complain about another series joining the roster.
As far as Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent goes, we're excited to see what this drama will bring us this summer.

Shogun has skyrocketed to the top of the streaming ratings, a little over a month since its initial two-episode release, with millions of views in its first week.
This wasn't an easy feat considering the debut success of other FX or Hulu hard-hitters, such as The Bear, The Handmaid's Tale, and The Great.
Immediate comparisons to Game of Thrones were inevitable, given the show's heavy political intrigues set in 17th-century feudal Japan.
As with most popular debuts that delve heavily into cultures foreign to our own, some critics pointed to the white savior trope, drawing lines between Shogun and Dances with Wolves, The Last Samurai, and even Avatar.
Fortunately, those lines failed to meet reality.
The sympathetic, apologetic nature of the white savior plot doesn't stand up to scrutiny within Shogun's carefully constructed mimicry of real-life Japan in the 1600s.
The attention to detail is bar none, with creators...

“The Curse” has become one of the most talked-about shows this year with its idiosyncratic mix of cringe comedy, weird horror, marital drama, and sentiment proving to be a recipe for brilliance. The acclaimed Showtime drama series follows Nathan Fielder and Oscar winner Emma Stone as a newly married couple who host an HGTV show. They try to conceive a child as they navigate the effects of a curse.
Fielder and Stone’s performances propel the show to greatness and they are ably supported by Benny Safdie, who co-created the show with Fielder. He plays a desperate producer and while the role is scenery-chewing enough, it’s also a great role for filmmaker Safdie to once again show his acting chops, as noted by critics.

“The Crown” is on the cusp of history at the Emmys. Imelda Staunton is one of the top contenders for Best Drama Actress for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in the sixth and final season of the Netflix biographical drama. She would be the third Elizabeth II to win for “The Crown,” following Claire Foy and Olivia Colman. That would mean Emmys for every lead actress who played the monarch on the show. And it would make “The Crown” the first show to win Best Drama Actress for three different women.
