Roadside Attractions has picked up the North American rights to Dreamin’ Wild, the Casey Affleck and Zooey Deschanel-starring music biopic that debuted in Venice.
Bill Pohlad directed the film that is set to hit theaters Aug. 4. Roadside released Pohlad’s 2014 feature Love & Mercy, a portrait of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys that marked his feature directorial debut.
Dreamin’ Wild captures the real-life story of musical duo Donnie and Joe Emerson, whose family leveraged their farm in the 1970s to produce the brothers’ record Dreamin’ Wild. The album languished until it was rediscovered nearly 30 years after its release, creating an unexpected music career for the Emerson brothers.
“I’m honored to be back with Roadside Attractions for my next film since Love & Mercy. I’m hoping that audiences will connect with this family’s heart-felt story as much as with Donnie’s extraordinary music,” Pohlad said in a statement on Thursday.

For a clumsy, fleeting moment, the punchline was the most potent tool in a rapper’s war chest. The “hashtag rap” era birthed, built, and sustained careers, allowing rappers as varied as Big Sean, Drake, Lil Wayne, Fabolous, and Ludacris to create hits built on the same formula. Performers would introduce a joke or premise in the first half of a lyric and immediately deliver a punchline at the end of a bar, repeating that same structure for each subsequent lyric. While none of these artists necessarily created the technique,...

In case you didn't know, Brett Young is having an incredible 2019. Over the past couple of years, the 38-year-old country music singer has earned a spot in the genre thanks to hits like "In Case You Didn't Know," "Mercy" and "Like I Loved You." But ahead of his performance on the Daytime Stage this weekend at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, it's hard not to recognize all his accomplishments in the past 12 months alone. While he's had the opportunity to tour with Luke Bryan and Lady Antebellum, this year gave Brett the special chance to headline his own tour across the country. Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry praises his former star Felicity Huffman as patient, polite and, in an instance involving an older guest star who was having difficulty remembering lines, demonstrating “a master class on human compassion.”
Cherry’s letter of support written to the courtroom decider of Huffman’s fate, was obtained and detailed by Us Weekly magazine. The letter’s public airing follows last week’s reveal of a similar courtroom missive written by Housewives co-star Eva Longoria in which she told of Huffman’s behind-the-scenes support and kindness when Longoria was being “bullied” by another (and unidentified) Housewives co-star.
Cherry is one of 27 people, along with Longoria and Huffman’s husband William H. Macy, to pen supportive letters as Huffman awaits sentencing for her role in the elite college admissions case.
The actress has pleaded guilty to mail fraud after paying $15,000 to increase her daughter’s Sat score.

“American Idol” ended Sunday’s live episode with a shocker after Ryan Seacrest revealed the last of the Top 8 artists to make the cut. Judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie opted not to use their single save of the season to throw a lifeline to one of the two eliminated contestants: Walker Burroughs and Alyssa Raghu (Which of these was robbed of a place in the Top 6?)
The six leading vote-getters were: Alejandro Aranda, Laci Kaye Booth,, Wade Cota, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg. Which of these remaining half dozen contestants do you think will win season 17?
Take a closer look at each of these artists in the photos above and review the roster below of the songs they’ve sung to date as well as their celebrity duet partners in the Top 24 round. Then vote in our winner poll at the bottom of this...

Alyssa Raghu is all but certain to face elimination on “American Idol” this Sunday according to the results of our poll of viewers. She was the last artist revealed to make the Top 8 on last Sunday’s Disney Night episode. And she has earned only a measly 2% in our survey of “American Idol” fans heading into Queen Night on April 28.
The other contestant joining her in the bottom two is likely to be Walker Burroughs who merited a mere 3% in our poll results. Each can only avoid elimination if they are saved by judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie who can invoke this power just one time in season 17.
All eight singers still in the competition will take to the stage on Sunday to sing a song from the back catalogue of the band Queen and then do duets with each other on classic movie tunes. Of the other six,...

The “American Idol” Top 8 will sing Queen songs and also duet with another contestant on a movie tune as they vie for your votes on Sunday April 28. Only six of them will make it to the next stage of the competition and continue on in their quest to be crowned season 17 winner. Early favorite Alejandro Aranda, whose audition video went viral, is far out front in our viewers poll. But while he still takes a commanding 39% of the total tally, Laine Hardy has jumped up to 22% support.
The only other contestants to crack double digits in our power rankings are Wade Cota with 11% and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon at 10%. Laci Kaye Booth and Madison VanDenburg each have a lucky 7%. The two contestants all but certain to be sent eliminated on Sunday’s show are Walker Burroughs (3%) and Alyssa Raghunandan (2%).

We scoured the disc commentaries and Blu-ray extras on The Walking Dead season 8 release for nerdy tidbits about the show. Spoilers ahead…
This article comes from Den of Geek UK. It contains spoilers.
The Walking Dead season eight Blu-ray disc set has comparatively fewer episode commentaries than usual – just three in total, for episodes three, four, and 16, all of which feature crew and no members of the cast. Perhaps the actors were too busy this year to sit in recording booths and reminisce about on-set pranks and how hot Atlanta gets in summer. Instead, former showrunner Scott Gimple is joined by writer Matt Negrete, director Dan Liu, and new showrunner Angela Kang to talk us through episode three, "Monsters," episode four, "Some Guy," and the season finale, "Wrath."
There are also three featurettes, one in memoriam of the characters who died during the season, one commemorating the life of Carl Grimes,...

Lucioball is a returning game for this year’s Summer Games, which will run until Aug. 30. Last year’s Lucioball arenas were based in Rio de Janiero and Sydney. Based on the teaser image shared on an OverwatchKR tweet, it seems the newest arena will be in the beautiful beach city of Busan in South Korea. A fitting location, considering “Overwatch” is currently experiencing a surge of popularity in the land of the morning calm, as the third most played title in PC rooms, with a 9% share as of August in the rankings of games played overall according to Korean games data site Gametrics.

Will AMC’s “The Walking Dead” break through in top categories at the Emmys? The horror series about survivors of the zombie apocalypse has been an awards fixture for its last seven seasons, nominated every year from 2011-2017 and winning twice for its prosthetic makeup (2011-2012). But all of the show’s 16 total nominations have come in Creative Arts categories. Can it break through in even more races in year eight? It has submitted dozens of actors, writers, editors, cinematographers and many more on this year’s Emmy ballot. Scroll down for its full list of submissions.
Though the Emmys have only recognized “The Walking Dead” for its crafts thus far, the Golden Globes nominated it for Best Drama Series in 2011. Blake Shelton won top honors at the 2018 Cmt Music Awards, held on June 6 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. He won Video of the Year for “I’ll Name the Dogs,” which was the first victory of his career in that category. That song also won him Male Video of the Year, which made him the only artist on Wednesday night with multiple victories. Check out the full list of winners right here.
Shelton previously contended for Video of the Year for “God Gave Me You” (2012), “Boys ‘Round Here” (2014) and “Sangria” (2016), but he hadn’t won that prize until now. He was up against a field of 11 other nominees including Carrie Underwood and Ludacris (“The Champion”), Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton (“Say Something”) and Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line (“Meant to Be”). But those were all collaborations, and no collaboration has won the top prize at the CMTs.

Who better to hitch a ride with than James Corden? On CBS' The Late Late Show Monday, Shawn Mendes hopped in the passenger seat for a ride around L.A. I have my own place—finally," the singer said. It "sucked" at first, "cooking for yourself and cleaning your house." But...

Readers first learned that "sometimes dead is better" when Stephen King's Pet Sematary was published in 1983, and they'll soon learn that morbid lesson again with Paramount Pictures' upcoming reimagining of the heart-wrenching horror novel, which has now added another actor to its ranks.
EW reports that John Lithgow will play the role of Jud Crandall in the new film adaptation of Stephen King's Pet Sematary. Played by Fred Gwynne (The Munsters) in Mary Lambert's 1989 movie adaptation, Jud is a central character in the chilling story of Pet Sematary.
As fans of the book and previous movie know, Jud is the elderly next-door neighbor of Louis Creed and his family, who have just moved into their home in a somewhat secluded region of Maine. Jud is the one who introduces Louis to the ancient burial ground nearby where pets have been laid to rest... and come back from their freshly dug graves.

In creating Retribution, “Overwatch’s” latest story-driven cooperate event, the team wanted to make something that was fun, unpredictable, and infinitely replayable, the mode’s lead designer tells Variety. The result is a mode that skates the line between dynamic and predictable, too difficult and too easy.
Finding that sweet spot, Adrian Finol, the “Overwatch” development team’s Retribution lead designer, writes, was the culmination of lessons learned from the two previous story-modes and then working to fine-tune the AI of new enemies to help players feel like a bad-ass every time they play.
Blizzard’s first attempt at having players team up against computer-driven opponents in “Overwatch” landed in 2016 with Junkenstein’s Revenge. That first cooperative mode had four players guarding a castle door from waves of drones and Halloween-themed characters from the game. It’s story, though light, tied into a comic book release.

Keys pitted up her original 12 artists against each other in six battles. The winners of these — Johnny Bliss, Britton Buchanan, Sharane Callister, Terrence Cunningham, Christiana Danielle and Kelsea Johnson — move on to the knockout round. She used one steal to throw Miya Bass a lifeline after Adam Levine opted to keep Drew Cole...
