If you’re 25, Elvis Presley died 20 years before you were born. “Oh, yeah, they don’t care [about Elvis],” said “Elvis” director Baz Luhrmann, who sat down with me in a sunny suite at the Ja Marriott shortly before his film premiered in Cannes. “In a way, I like that. Because they’re very honest about it. Even when I was a fan as a kid, I was more Bowie and Elvis became wallpaper. And I think they know him through ‘Lilo and Stitch,’ or he’s in a video game. Like he’s the guy in the white jumpsuit.”

In Top Gun: Maverick, there’s a role reversal at work, because Tom Cruise as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is no longer the brash, cocky young pilot he was in the original 1986 movie. Instead, he’s the flight instructor working with a new generation of Top Gun pilots, including the grown son of his former Rio, Goose. […]

Paramount+ has debuted the first trailer for ‘The Offer’ – the series following the drama behind the scenes making of the iconic film ‘The Godfather.’
Based on Oscar®-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy’s extraordinary, never-revealed experiences of making ‘The Godfather.’
Miles Teller stars as Oscar-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy who is chosen to shepherd a film adaptation of the Mario Puzo novel. Dan Fogler co-stars as Coppola along with Matthew Goode as Bob Evans.
From budget constraints to an unwilling director, to other failed gangster movies, the production was an uphill battle but it yielded the 1972 film that remains one of the greatest of all time.
Giovanni Ribisi, Colin Hanks, Justin Chambers, Lou Ferrigno, Juno Temple and Michael Gandolfini co-star. The series was created and written by Michael Tolkin, with Nikki Toscano as co-writer and showrunner.
Also in trailers – Queen Bean is back for more adventure in trailer for ‘Disenchantment...

"Spider-Man: No Way Home" arrived in theaters over the weekend, as you may have noticed, and it made quite an impact. Not just at the box office, but on the future of the franchise, not to mention the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as Sony's continued "Spider-Man" spin-off franchises. It offered a whole lot to process and, that being the case, some things might have slipped through the cracks on a first watch for certain viewers. One such thing was a not-so-subtle nod to none other than Miles Morales! Yes, it seems another seed has been planted for the character's eventual...

Blindspotting isn’t the most obvious candidate for a film-to-tv spinoff. The 2018 movie, co-written by Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs, who star as best friends in Oakland, made less than $5 million at the box office. It was well-reviewed but not a major awards player. And its stories — Diggs’ ex-con Collin finishes out his probation, while Casal’s Miles rails against gentrification — didn’t leave lots of open questions demanding a sequel, on the big or small screen.
But Blindspotting the series, debuting this weekend on Starz, is less a continuation...

As the first major PS5 exclusive released since the console launched last November (with due respect to the incredible Returnal), many fans hope that Ratchet & Clank Rift: Apart will show us what the next generation of gaming technology is capable of.
That’s a lot of pressure to put on any game (even the latest entry in a proven franchise from an incredible studio), but considering that it could be a while before we get another major PS5 exclusive from a PlayStation Studios team, it makes sense that so many PS5 owners (and prospective PS5 owners) are treating Rift Apart as our clearest look yet at the future of console gaming.
Does Rift Apart live up to those lofty expectations? That’s the question we’ll try to answer as we dive into some of the game’s performance accomplishments (and a few shortcomings) to see whether or not this...

The Who Sell Out was rock’s first perfect package of irony — a wry marriage of highbrow and lowbrow art disguised as a concept album where the only real notion was that the Who wanted cash. They linked the songs together with tongue-in-cheek commercials for deodorant and pimple cream and even hired a real ad agency to pour Heinz beans over Roger Daltrey for the cover art. Without the gimmick, the songs themselves were a glorious hodgepodge. There was one brilliantly chiming anthem “I Can See for Miles,” a South...

Following the show’s Covid-19 guidelines, the sisters performed in the round without an audience, surrounded only by the other acts — Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Black Pumas — along with host Trevor Noah and Grammys producers and stage crew. The theatrical schedule might be on the cusp of another industry-wide reshuffle after Sony’s Morbius, one of the 2021’s first major blockbusters, was pushed back by eight months from March to October, but business is booming for Netflix. The streaming service released a new trailer today hyping a stacked year for original movies, featuring some of the biggest names around.
Having already headlined the company’s most-watched in-house feature ever thanks to Extraction, which is poised to launch an entire cinematic universe never mind a franchise, Chris Hemsworth will be back on our screens later this year in Escape From Spiderhead. Renee Zellweger won the Best Actress Oscar for playing Judy Garland in “Judy,” and she just made history by earning a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Pop Album for the soundtrack. That made her the first person since Jennifer Hudson in “Dreamgirls” to receive a Grammy nomination for a film they won an acting Oscar for. But can she win? If she does, she should thank Tony Bennett for not being nominated.
SEEHow to win Grammys in 4 easy steps: This year’s nominations showed us which campaigns worked, and which didn’t
Zellweger could be helped by the fact that the recording academy already loves Judy Garland. In 1962 the legendary entertainer claimed Album of the Year and Best Female Solo Vocal Recording for her comeback concert “Judy at Carnegie Hall.” That was only seven years before her death in 1969 when she was just 47. Then in 1998 she was honored with a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mad About You star Helen Hunt has been added to the cast of Starz series Blindspotting.
Hunt, who also recently starred in BBC drama World on Fire and features I See You and The Night Clerk, will play Rainey, mother to Rafael Casal’s Miles in the adaptation of Casal and Daveed Diggs feature film.
“It is such an honor to have Helen Hunt in this series,” Casal said. “We became friends after she tweeted about her love of the film and we have long looked for a project to do together. She has been our first choice for the character Rainey since we dreamed this show up.”
It comes after Starz unveiled more cast for the film yesterday including musician Benjamin Earl Turner, Shameless actors Atticus Woodward and Jaylen Barron and Good Trouble’s Candace Nicholas-Lippman.
Produced by Lionsgate Television, the series will start production in Oakland and Los Angeles.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales fans still on the lookout for well-hidden secrets in Insomniac’s digital recreation of New York City have stumbled upon yet another reference to the wider Marvel universe. As those who played the original PS4 title will no doubt recall, the real-world Charging Bull statue situated on Broadway isn’t present in-game due to legal reasons and is replaced, instead, by a gigantic bronze bulldog. The metallic canine is a nod to Marvel’s Inhumans and the character of Lockjaw, specifically, who’s traditionally been included in the team’s line-up as the Royal Family’s longtime escort and protector.
None of this will be new to folks who dove into Peter Parker’s adventure back in 2018 – it was present there, too – but what many likely won’t know about is the presence of a second, much smaller and well-hidden version of the same statue. As...

In fringe cases such as these, you can’t help but sit back and enjoy a good chuckle.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Insomniac’s pseudo sequel to 2018’s original PS4 exclusive title, has been out for a solid week or so by now, and while most fans of the wall-crawler no doubt spent that time revelling in the sights and sounds of New York City as intended, others have had, let’s say, unique experiences.
Not long after discovering Spidey’s newfound ability to transform into everyday inanimate objects, Twitter user Bryan decided to share their findings with fellow players on social media. As of writing, it’s not abundantly clear what caused the humorous glitch to occur, but we’re certainly thankful for his contribution.
Without further ado, check out Miles, as Spider-Man, traversing the city skyline disguised as a trash can. No, seriously.

The Game Awards nominations have finally arrived, which means it’s officially time to start arguing about what the biggest video game award show of the year got right and wrong.
Considering the many ways that the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the entire entertainment industry this year (including gaming), we’re a little surprised that this year’s nominees are as competitive as they are. While titles like Halo Infinite missed their 2020 release date and Cyberpunk 2077 will miss the award show’s Nov. 20 cutoff date for nominations, there were enough quality games released in 2020 to ensure that the Game Awards voters even managed to snub a few notable potential nominees.

Freeform has set the full cast for its None of the Above (working title) pilot, a single-camera comedy written and executive produced by Kenny Smith (Black-ish). Gregg Wayans (Kidding) and Asjha Cooper (Snowfall) are set as leads, and Ron Taylor, Justin Miles (Paradise Lost) and Katelyn Tarver (Famous in Love) round out the series regular cast.
None of the Above, from ABC Signature and Tornante TV, is a single-cam comedy that follows Cannon (Wayans) and his best friend Valencia (Cooper), two college friends that find their transition into the “real” world isn’t easy because they don’t quite conform to other people’s expectations.
Wayans’ Cannon is a self-assured, witty guy who is always open to new experiences… except when he’s suddenly not.
Cooper’s Valencia is a strong-willed woman of devout faith, whose drive to succeed can often border on obsessive and gets her into trouble.

If Tom Holland really isn’t too pleased about Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire potentially returning to the franchise he’s been headlining, he’s about to receive even more unwelcome news. The 24-year-old clearly thinks that three Spider-Men is a crowd, but that number pales in comparison to the actual amount that could appear in the upcoming film.
According to our sources – the same ones who told us a She-Hulk show is coming to Disney Plus and Ryan Reynolds had a secret role in Hobbs & Shaw, both of which were correct – Spider-Man 3 will reportedly feature five different versions of the titular web-slinger if Maguire and Garfield sign on the dotted line, and it seems like they definitely will at this stage.
From what we understand, the trio of aforementioned actors might be joined by another yet-to-be-named performer who’ll portray Miles Morales. We’d heard rumors that the...

Arriving alongside Sony’s powerful PlayStation 5 console yesterday, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is now available on current and last-gen systems, bringing with it an all-new adventure for fans of the superhero to embark on. Eagerly taking over from his friend and mentor Peter Parker in the eternal quest to keep citizens safe from harm, Miles has donned the iconic suit and started patrolling the City That Never Sleeps for signs of unrest, no matter how big or small.
There is, of course, a central plot involving the Tinkerer and his private army of goons – the Underground – to take care of, though no open world experience is complete without well-hidden secrets and Easter eggs to find off the beaten path. Miles Morales might retread the very same metropolis that Parker had free roam of back in 2018, but a lot has changed in the 12 months since he put the Sinister Six behind bars.

This Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales article contains spoilers.
Spider-Man has always benefited from one of the best rogues’ galleries in comics, but the recently released Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales features a villain whom some franchise fans may not immediately recognize: a businessman named Simon Krieger.
While it probably won’t come as much as a surprise that Miles Morales focuses on a new villain given that it’s a spin-off of the Marvel’s Spider-Man story, it turns out that Krieger isn’t actually an entirely new face in the Marvel universe. The game’s ending also strongly suggests that this won’t be the last we see of him.
Let’s break down who Simon Krieger is, his comic book origin, what happened to him at the end of the game, and whether we’ll see him in the inevitable Marvel’s Spider-Man 2…

On paper, “Spider-Man: Miles Morales” seems pretty straightforward: It’s the follow-up to Insomniac Games’ wildly successful “Spider-Man,” a 2018 PlayStation 4 exclusive that dropped everyone’s favorite webslinger into an open-world Manhattan and allowed him to zip around the New York skyline in a friendly, gravity-defying riff on “Grand Theft Auto.” But a strange identity crisis sets in almost as soon as players swing back into action, and that cognitive dissonance only grows as you careen through the game’s electric 10-hour-plus campaign. The more that Miles — Brooklyn to the bone — starts to feel at home in his adopted Harlem neighborhood, the more obvious it becomes that his standalone new adventure isn’t just a cut-and-dry sequel with a different super teen subbing in for Peter Parker. Anyone can wear the mask, but that doesn’t change who they are underneath.

With a fully-fledged sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man presumably somewhere on the horizon, it’s understandable why Sony would choose to kick-off the launch of the PlayStation 5 with a standalone experience of sorts, even if it’s playable on their older platforms as well. Described by the publishing giant as an “expansion and enhancement,” Spider-Man: Miles Morales sticks close to the formula laid out by its predecessor while placing the focus on a fresher face, one who’s racked up a sizable fanbase over the past few years.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is being touted as an amazing follow-up to Marvel’s Spider-Man as well as one of the PlayStation 5’s best launch games by Sony, as we head into the next generation of console gaming. It’s certainly true that a blockbuster first-party exclusive like Miles Morales could help Sony’s next-gen console beat out the powerful Xbox Series X this holiday.
While Miles Morales isn’t a “full” sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man but more of a next-gen expansion starring the fan-favorite Spidey in training, everything that we’ve seen of the game thus far suggests it feature the same brilliant open-world gameplay and developer Insomniac Games’ undeniable sense of style. Sony and Insomniac Games have today released a very special treat for fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of Spider-Man: Miles Morales next month.
The sequel, releasing for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 12th to coincide with the latter console’s debut, takes place roughly one year after the original 2018 game and sees its titular character assume the Spider-Man mantle in Peter Parker’s absence. Caught in a war between two criminal organizations, Miles will encounter various iconic villains in his quest to bring peace to Harlem, including the Tinkerer and Prowler, as revealed earlier this week.
Boasting a suite of new skills, animations and abilities, Miles will also have access, like his mentor, to a wardrobe of different Spider-Man costumes, all of which will come outfitted with unique properties. Among the unreleased tracks are “Can This Be Love?” and “I Want Some Sun,” which Stevens dropped prior to the reissues’ December 4th release.

As you may recall, we recently talked about how Spider-Man Remastered recasts Peter Parker’s facial actor as part of Insomniac’s extensive attempt to update the PS4 game to take advantage of the PS5’s capabilities. More importantly, we talked about how many fans were not happy with that change.
Well, that debate has been reignited thanks to the release of this new teaser clip for Spider-Man: Miles Morales that showcases the “new” Peter Parker and Miles Morales sharing a text exchange over whatever the Marvel universe equivalent of an iPhone is.

Now that Sony has provided a definitive release date for its next-gen console, Insomniac Games, developer of PS5 launch title and first-party exclusive Spider-Man: Miles Morales, has been moving full steam ahead with the hype train, releasing near-daily teasers and/or trailers for fans of Peter Parker’s successor to enjoy, with each making this year’s adventure appear more tantalizing than the last.
For today’s offering, however, the studio has decided to do something a little different. Following on from last week’s spectacle-laden gameplay showcase aimed at previewing the various unique abilities Miles will have access to during the course of the campaign, this time, the theme is exposition. Specifically, a text message chat between Peter Parker and his protégé, which seemingly takes place not long after the latter has taken up the Spider-Man mantle.

It’s over, dear reader. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales just secured Game of the Year and the PlayStation 5 just won the next-gen console war with the reveal of Spider-Cat, the cute bodega cat who will help Miles fight crime in the upcoming superhero adventure. The cat’s name is also Spider-Man and he rides around in Miles’ backpack, ready to pounce on evildoers. No gaming news has ever mattered to this feline-obsessed writer.

We thought we couldn’t be more excited about Spider-Man: Miles Morales until Game Informer went and released a new gameplay video that showcases Spider-Cat in action. We’re not going to lie, the following story is very cute.
It seems that at some point during his adventure, Miles Morales will be tasked with rescuing a local bodega cat who, for unknown reasons we won’t pry into in accordance with the laws that dictate our ability to interfere with the business of bodega cats, has found himself trapped in a warehouse full of thugs. In any case, Morales soon dispatches of the cat threatening fiends and escorts the cat in a backpack to safety.
It’s then that we learn that this cat’s name is Spider-Man and that he resides at a local bodega where the man behind the counter welcomes him back warmly. The man goes so...

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is fast becoming one of the first must-have games for next-gen consoles, specifically Sony’s PlayStation 5, for which Insomniac’s sequel is, of course, a first-party exclusive. While Xbox fans will have to make the jump in order to play this latest chapter in the series, then, it’s worth noting that Miles Morales is also scheduled to arrive next month on PS4 (albeit without all the bells and whistles of the former version), meaning you needn’t fork over $499 for a new console just to experience the standalone story.
Whatever avenue you choose, though, story and gameplay will remain the same and, thanks to several new teasers released just a few hours ago, Spidey’s followers have gotten their best look yet, at some unlockable outfits Parker’s protégé will have access to during the course of the campaign. In an interview with Naver (via Gamesindustry.biz), Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan seemingly made a bold prediction when he stated that Sony believes the PS5 will “sell more in its first fiscal year than [we] sold in the first fiscal year at the time of [the] PS4 launch.”
It’s worth reiterating that Ryan’s quote does come via a translation. While the translation appears to be reliable, this would hardly be the first time that even a reliable translation misses some subtlety that changes the meaning of a statement. It’s also been mentioned that it’s possible that Ryan was talking about the sales of the PS5 vs. the PS4 in Korea.
Based on what we currently know, though, it really does sound like the PlayStation team expects the PS5’s early sales to surpass the PS4’s. That may leave you wondering what that actually means once...

Excitement quickly turned to confusion when Sony announced that a remastered version of Marvel’s Spider-Man would be released for PS5 as part of the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition. What should have been a simple cause for celebration was complicated by questions regarding how this remaster would fit into the sometimes confusing world of next-gen upgrade options.
See, if you buy the recently confirmed PS4 version of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, you can upgrade to the PS5 version of the game at no extra cost. By that logic, some fans assumed that those who own the PS4 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man would be able to upgrade to the PS5 remastered edition of that game at no extra cost.
However, it turns out that’s absolutely not the case. Well…at least that’s most people’s first read of a lengthy (and only vaguely helpful) statement...

Sony’s not doing itself any favors with the handling of Spider-Man‘s upcoming PlayStation 5 remaster.
As confirmed earlier this month, Insomniac’s acclaimed 2018 title, a PS4 exclusive, is headed to next-gen later this year with a raft of visual and technical improvements intended to take advantage of the superior hardware housed within the PS5. A welcome announcement, of course, but seemingly forgetting the backlash Activision received in 2016 for its bungled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered launch (initially only available as a bundle with Infinite Warfare), Sony has essentially made the exact same mistake.
Only by purchasing the Ultimate Edition of Spider-Man: Miles Morales – which is $20 more expensive than the standard version – will Spidey fans be able to get their hands on Peter Parker’s original adventure and it’s now been confirmed that the premium will be required regardless of whether you own the PS4 version or not.

Spider-Man fans intending to pick up Insomniac’s gorgeous-looking sequel with their PlayStation 5 later this year won’t just have an all-new adventure starring Miles Morales to enjoy. As confirmed recently, $80 Ultimate Editions of the sequel will come bundled with a remastered version of the original PS4 game as standard, though if you were hoping to pick up exactly where you left off when the pair arrive in November, the developer has confirmed, no doubt to the disappointment of many, that doing so won’t be possible.

As if Sony’s initial gameplay reveal for Spider-Man: Miles Morales earlier this week wasn’t already proof enough of the PlayStation 5’s raw power, Insomniac Games has decided to hammer the point home today by releasing a batch of new screenshots for the anticipated sequel and yes, they’re just as impressive as seeing the web-slinger in motion, if not more so.
