Confusing at Times
Hitchcoc24 October 2017
Slade is a crud. He seems to be a charlatan and extremely dangerous. We get the impression that he shot the record producer guy to protect Britney. She had been held hostage. Later, however, he seems to have other fish to fry. He is a manipulator, twisting things around to work for him. What his motivations are are unclear but he is definitely pulling strings all the time. We are introduced to some bad guys here who seem to feel that their turf is being invaded. Slade goes to investigate, makes a discovery, then keeps it to himself. The episode ends with a dramatic event that could have been avoided.

Just how much disbelief do you want me to suspend?

Warning: Spoilers
This is a slick production, reasonably well-acted, but the writing is awful.

I mean, you have a character, Danny, a detective, who was with the kid when he disappeared 20 years ago, whose father was the cop who investigated the case. Danny is a witness in the case, yet he runs the new investigation when the missing kid's DNA turns up? Really? On what planet would that be allowed? Answer: None.

It gets better. When Danny seems to hit a wall after investigating the new case, his DC tells him he should look at his father's old files on the original case. No detective would start this investigation without pulling those files first thing and reading them. Yet we're four episodes in, and this detective not only hasn't done it, but it's obvious he never would have done it if his DC hadn't told him to. This is not reality, this is lousy writing that betrays either ignorance of police procedures or lazy writing.

This show inhabits the world that so many cop shows used to, where no one ever bothered to learn their subject. But police shows have been at it for decades and at least try to be true to how things are. I don't think anyone writing this show has been any closer to an actual cop than when getting a speeding ticket. Pitiful.
