Intriguing sci-fi short
bcwatson3 November 2016
It could be used as a long teaser/trailer for a full-length movie. I want to see more. This would totally work as a serial in the theme of old radio series where you turn in next time to continue the story and find out what happened to the characters. The video does leave a lot of questions which it seems to be taken for granted the audience already knows the answers to (unless they were thinking of introducing the backstory through flashbacks of some sort. I thought the special effects were pretty well done. Acting is not terrible and the visual quality is very good. The level of special effects reminded me of early Battlestar Gallactica. If you like sci-fi, give this a look. I found it on YouTube.

Slight spoilery honest film review
filmandpaint6 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Here is a spoilery honest review.. cinematography pretty good. Acting mostly really good.... mostly. Parents look NOTHING like the kid so that took me out of the story... it's like the directors were... well the kid has a unique look with his lips and curly hair.

Most visual effects were good. The Bird ship or whatever it was was a cool concept but the 3D model they used for the last shot was terrible. No textures, no lighting, it looked like a 3D model you purchase on Turbo Squid for $30.

The mom, best acting. Little hammy during the entire dad- daughter reunion piece. The dad pretty good. The fight between the half dead technician in the bunker was awful, AWFUL! pulling punches, terrible choreography... but the worst was the addition of the "slow motion" as he was electrocuted. *eye roll.

The story was intriguing. Although... there wasn't a defined beginning-middle-end. Even short stories are supposed to have those. The beginning was fine, intriguing... kept me watching... the middle grew bland with the Father-Daughter speech and the Dad in the bunker looking for supplies... then the ending was awful and fell apart. I get there was some sort of "twist" with the Bird plane you thought was gonna be bad but then ended up good, but as an audience member I didn't care by that stage.

Production value: 6/10 Acting 8/10 Production design 5/10 Visual Effects 7/10 Story... um, 7/10... started off good but fell flat.

Cool dark science fiction thriller.
markspriggs26 September 2016
Very nicely composed science fiction short just waiting to be continued. This production is slick, well paced, professionally produced and well acted with reasonable quality SFX making for a pacey thriller.

I hope this quality piece moves forward given that like an increasing number of these shorts the quality is truly astonishing given this is not a 'mainstream' production.

With the advent of increasingly powerful yet affordable computer technology it is very easy to fall into the trap of allowing SFX to overwhelm a production reducing the product to fancy flashy effects with little or indeed no real story value - this seems to not fall into that easy trap.

Nicely done.
