Rotten Tomatoes has shared an updated ranking of the "300 Best Movies of All Time" which they say are "reviewed and selected by Tomatometer-approved critics and Rotten Tomatoes users."
At #1? 1997's L.A. Confidential, a movie which has little to nothing in common with superheroes! However, comic book adaptations do factor into the list, with 11 in total making the cut.
According to the review aggregator, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is the best superhero movie ever, coming in at #21. Released in 2018, the Sony Pictures title grossed $384.3 million and won a "Best Animated Feature" Oscar in 2019 (making it the first non-Disney/Pixar movie to do so since 2011).
Also included in the list are The Dark Knight (#51), Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (#81), Spider-Man: No Way Home (#128), Avengers: Endgame, (#142), Iron Man (#145), Black Panther (#225), Logan (#228), Guardians of the Galaxy (#254), Thor: Ragnarok (#274), and The Avengers (#286).
Needless to say, we're sure these selections will generate some discussion!

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Marvel Studios has been taking pitch meetings with writers for the X-Men reboot since late last year, and recent reports indicate that we are very close to finding out who will pen the script for the project.
Once a scribe is in place, the studio will turn its attention to a director - but there's a good chance Kevin Feige and co. already have a list of filmmakers in mind that they feel could be the right person to bring the iconic mutant heroes back to the big screen.
In the latest edition of his newsletter, Jeff Sneider mentions Moonlight and Mufasa: The Lion King director Barry Jenkins as one filmmaker who could be on Marvel's radar to helm the movie. Sneider doesn't say Jenkins is actually in talks, but he seems to feel that if the upcoming Lion King prequel is a success, he might be a strong contender.

Luca Guadagnino didn't deliberately insert a 'Spider-Man' "in-joke" into 'Challengers'.The director's new movie stars Zendaya as tennis prodigy Tashi Duncan, and a scene features the alter ego of the actress - who plays Mj opposite her real-life boyfriend Tom Holland in the superhero films - talking with her husband Art (Mike Faist) when they are interrupted by their daughter Lily, who asks if she can watch the 'Spider Man: Into the Spider-Verse' animated movie. And while fans of the superhero saga were thrilled by the Easter egg, Luca admitted he didn't think about the tie to Zendaya when the line was written. He explained to EW.com: “When you get rights for something to be used in a movie, it’s very complicated.“Amy Pascal, our amazing producer, was of help there. "Anyone But You" became a surprise hit when it arrived in theaters back in December 2023. In an age where everyone is used to superhero movies and the odd horror flick doing well at the box office, surely a rom-com starring two lesser-known stars whose careers are only just starting to get going wasn't going to hit? But hit, it did. "Anyone But You" passed box office milestones, making an impressive $216 million worldwide on just a $25 million budget. Oh, and it was also based on a William Shakespeare play.
It might seem strange to think that a loose adaptation of the Bard's "Much Ado About Nothing," could be so surprisingly popular, but perhaps "Anyone But You" is ushering in a new era of cool Shakespeare adaptations, á la Leonardo DiCaprio with "Romeo + Juliet" back in the mid-'90s. Either way, the film's success certainly went a long way to...

Even before Zendaya won an Emmy for starring in the popular HBO original drama Euphoria, she was a prominent figure in the Marvel film industry. Having said that, she is the only member of Sam Levinson’s series’ main cast who remains a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This will undoubtedly change if her Euphoria co-star, Sydney Sweeney, chooses to emulate Zendaya’s footsteps.
We are confident in Sweeney’s ability to carry out a variety of roles because of her work outside of the Cassie Howard role, such as her courageous performance in HBO’s The White Lotus. That is exactly the kind of talent Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, seeks in an actor when deciding who will play the next big Marvel characters on either the small or big screen.

Last month, it was reported that Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage was in “serious talks” to reprise his “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” role for a live-action “Spider-Man Noir” series incarnation. And just this past weekend, during a recent chat with Collider at the SXSW festival in Austin to promote his new film “Arcadian,” Cage confirmed those conversations. The actor also cited some of the period aspects as being an appealing angle, being able to channel 1930s screen legends like Humphrey Bogart, Edward G.

Although it’s far from a confirmation, Nicolas Cage has revealed he’s had a “conversation” about playing the role of a grizzled Spider-Man Noir in live-action form.
Nicolas Cage finally joined the Marvel pantheon in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, in which the much-loved actor voiced the character of Spider-Man Noir. An alternate-universe take on the webslinger who’s older, embittered and also happens to be a great detective, it hinted at all sorts of future possibilities. Wouldn’t it be cool to see Cage given his own Spider-Man Noir story?
There have been rumours that this might happen for a while, with Variety reporting back in 2023 that a spin-off live-action TV series was in the works at Amazon Prime Video. This would be in addition to a separate Spider-Man series, Silk: Spider Society.

The rumors that Nicolas Cage might make a comeback to the Marvel Cinematic Universe are probably familiar to fans of both comic books and the Oscar-winning star. While many expect him to reprise his role as Ghost Rider in the upcoming flick Avengers: Secret Wars, it seems that the actor, 60, could be taking on a different Marvel character this time around.
Cage recently responded to reports that he is in talks to play the lead in Marvel’s live-action Spider-Man Noir TV series. The actor previously voiced the character in the animated flick Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). He quickly clarified, though, that while discussions are happening, nothing is set in stone just yet.

Over a year ago, news surfaced that Amazon is working on a live-action series focused on Spider-Man Noir, a superhero based in 1930s New York City. Unlike the usual Spider-Man tales, this series will spotlight an older, more seasoned character distinct from Peter Parker. Developed by Oren Uziel, the show will carve its own path within the Marvel universe, with Uziel serving as both writer and executive producer.
The project has attracted attention from industry veterans, including producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. With Uziel’s credentials from films like “22 Jump Street” and 2021’s “Mortal Kombat,” the series adds promising talent. This initiative falls in line with Amazon’s Marvel character-focused projects, such as “Silk: Spider Society.”
Recently, we reported Nicolas Cage’s interest in portraying Spider-Man Noir. In a recent interview with Collider at SXSW, the acclaimed actor confirmed his interest:

More than a year ago we learned that Amazon is set to produce a live-action series centered around Spider-Man Noir, a superhero set in 1930s New York City. Unlike the traditional Spider-Man story, this series will focus on an older, more weathered character, quite different from Peter Parker. Developed by Oren Uziel, the show will have its own path within the Marvel universe, with Uziel serving as both writer and executive producer.
The project so far involves notable names from the industry, including producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Uziel, known for his work on films such as ’22 Jump Street’ and the 2021 Mortal Kombat,’ brings his talents to the table. This series was just one more in line with Amazon’s Marvel character-driven projects, alongside ‘Silk: Spider Society.’

Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 96th Academy Awards (Oscars), where some of the most successful films of the previous year were honored. He was quick to break into his bag of prepared one-liners, even though he acknowledged the show was running five minutes behind schedule. He proceeded to roast several of the night’s most prominent guests, such as Christopher Nolan, Bradley Cooper, and Robert Downey Jr.
After the drama and controversy of Kimmel’s time hosting this year’s Oscars, fans are seeking a new face to take on the prestigious role next year. And it appears that the ideal candidate is none other than the hilarious and beloved John Mulaney. Why? His Oscar presentation for Best Sound was arguably the most unexpected moment; his performance was well-received by fans.

“Spider-Verse” star Shameik Moore found himself in hot water on X (formerly Twitter) during the 2024 Oscars when he seemingly reacted to “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” losing the Academy Award for best animated feature to Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron” by posting a one word reaction: “Robbed.” Many fans were quick to criticize Moore, who voices Miles Morales in the animated franchise, and pointed out that Miyazaki is a master of animation who directed an equally acclaimed movie.
“Respect to the winner,” Moore posted in a follow-up response. “It’s true, I’m definitely a sore loser, but we didn’t lose, ‘Spider-Verse’ has impacted A Lot of lives. We may not have been acknowledged tonight but life goes on, and Beyond….. yea get ready.”

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the sequel to the Oscar-winning flick, Into the Spider-Verse. While the sequel was nominated also nominated for Best Animated Film, it unfortunately lost to a surprising movie, Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron.
A still from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Despite its impressive reviews and being hailed as one of the best sequels to a Spider-Man movie, fans are absolutely shocked, to say the least. While everyone reacted differently, the producer-writer of the movie Christopher Miller took it like a champ. Yet fans brought back one dark legacy of the movie after one tweet of Miller went viral.

“The Boy and the Heron” director Hayao Miyazaki and producer Toshio Suzuki weren’t on hand to accept their Best Animated Feature Oscar Sunday night — the second for the Japanese animation master — but Suzuki issued a statement to press gathered backstage at the Academy Awards instead.
“We’re very honored to receive the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. We thank the Academy for the award,” Suzuki said in his statement. “I would also like to give my thanks to those who were involved in the production of this film and those who worked to distribute the film worldwide.”
Studio Ghibli’s chief operating officer Kiyofumi Nakajima appeared backstage to issue the statement via a translator, apologizing for Suzuki and Miyazaki’s absence, saying, “Please forgive them. They’re kind of up there in the age bracket.”

Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron,” likely his final film, has won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
It’s Miyazaki’s second Oscar after the Japanese animation master won for “Spirited Away” in 2002. Miyazaki is the most nominated director in the Best Animated Feature category (tied with Pete Docter) with four nominations, including for “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “The Wind Rises.” Miyazaki is now also the oldest winner in the category ever, at 83, with the previous record holder being Mark Gustafson for “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.”
“The Boy and the Heron” beat out an impressive field that included Pixar entry “Elemental,” Neon’s “Robot Dreams,” Netflix’s “Nimona,” and Sony’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” the follow-up to the Oscar-winning “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” from 2018.

Gold statuettes may be the Oscars’ ultimate status symbol, but what of the envelopes that reveal the big winners? Three sets of cards, designed by Marc Friedland since 2011, are produced for each category — two of which are taken to the venue. Winners are allowed to keep their cards and envelopes. Those that are left behind, as well as extras, are recycled. But Friedland’s envelopes are meant to be keepsakes.
Catherine Zeta-Jones shared that she keeps her winning envelope for Chicago on the mantel in her home office, framed next to her statuette. Francis Ford Coppola says his winning envelopes and statues are on display at his Sonoma County winery. And Steven Spielberg keeps his three winning envelopes framed in his Amblin Entertainment office. Christopher Lord and Phil Miller gifted their envelope for 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to their publicist, Rachael Reiss.

"Dune: Part Two" proved to be just what the box office needed. The much-anticipated sequel to 2021's "Dune" generated much interest from moviegoers all over the world. So much so that we're now looking at the biggest theatrical event in the U.S. since "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" in October of last year, and the biggest boost to ticket sales that theaters have seen since the Barbenheimer phenomenon last summer. Safe to say, Legendary and Warner Bros. have another hit on their hands.
Director Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" sequel pulled in a bigger-than-expected $82.5 million domestically over the weekend to go with $100 million internationally for a global debut of $182.5 million. It was far and away the number one movie over the weekend, with "Bob Marley: One Love" ($7.4 million) landing at a distant second. But that hardly mattered as the adaptation of Frank Herbert's beloved science fiction novel had the...

The Spider-Verse animated movies centered around Miles Morales spanning across different universes are now one of the most revered of Spider-Man movies. Setting a precedent for how superhero movies should be, the two flicks are a complete package having every ingredient (and more!) that makes a movie successful.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
While the first film went on to earn a much-deserved Oscar, the second film, Across the Spider-Verse, has been hailed as one of the best web-slinger sequels of all time. Yet the second movie would have never turned out to be as good if it was not for the test audience. With roughly six weeks to go before its release, the makers had to scramble to find a new ending since the fans hated the original one and ultimately it was one of Star Wars’ darkest moments that ended up inspiring them.

Hollywood is going through a two-parter movie phase right now. In the past two years, we've seen big franchises like "Fast & Furious," "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," and "Mission: Impossible" all split sequels into two parts, while franchise hopefuls like "Dune" and "Rebel Moon" have also become two-parter movies. Even "Wicked" is hoping to tell its story in two movies. On paper, most of those decisions make some sense: Those are big genre movies with loads of story (and a lot of potential money to be made from extending that story), so rather than make one very long movie, they've opted for two. What is much more surprising is seeing a Western join that club. But that isn't stopping Kevin Costner from turning his passion project "Horizon: An American Saga" into one of the biggest box office gambles of 2024. This is Costner's first directorial effort in 21 years, and much like in 2003 with "Open Range,...

Batman has always been a character to strike great admiration among fans of the DC Universe. The Caped Crusader has always had a massive fanbase that has followed all versions, regardless of what cape they wear, or if they even wear one. The one variant that sticks out in front of all of the different Bruce Waynes is the character in Batman Beyond, which can be largely credited to the 1999 animated series.

The series became so iconic and the character became so loved that there have been attempts to make an animated feature that introduces him in a completely new light. Patrick Harpin and Yuhki Demers revealed something interesting about the potential project.

Concept art and pitches are generally not our bag, but what if some of the team members behind Sony’s dynamic and visually arresting “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” franchise could do for Batman, what the ‘Spider-Verse’ team did for Spider-Man? That’s kind of the pitch, it seems. Yuhki Demers, a production designer at Netflix and visual development member on both ‘Spider-Verse’ films, revealed that he and director Patrick Harpin (“My Dad The Bounty Hunter”) pitched a “Batman Beyond” animated movie to Warner Bros.

Everyone has their Batman, the version of the Caped Crusader that first springs to the forefront of their minds whenever someone utters the name "Bruce Wayne." Typically, your Batman is the one you had as a child first falling in love with the comic book world of Gotham City, and for a generation of people, their Batman was Kevin Conroy. Conroy was the definitive voice of Batman in DC animated television shows, feature films, and video games for over three decades, with many viewing "Batman: The Animated Series" from Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski to be one of the best (if not the best) interpretations of the Dark Knight ever created.

Madame Web was a huge disappointment for Marvel fans. It had an exceptional cast of actors, including Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Adam Scott, and Emma Roberts. On top of this, the film was an entire project centered in the world of Spider-People, and the last project to do something like this, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, was extremely successful.
Despite this, the film was severely criticized in every aspect. So much so, that it became one of the worst-doing films in Marvel history, even having a budget of only $80 million.

While these unfortunate predispositions may lead to the film having no chance at having any future parts, fans have come up with the perfect plot for its sequel. Interestingly enough, it completely relies on the film’s deceased villain and a character from Tom Hardy’s Venom.

Updated: Paramount’s Bob Marley: One Love brought folks together around the world in its opening frame, singing up a sweet estimated $80M global bow. After coming on strong in early overseas play this week, and as audiences turned a deaf ear to critics, the international box office portion of that is $29M, landing well ahead of expectations.
The Reinaldo Marcus Green-directed biopic is out in 47 overseas markets and on a like-for-like basis including previews is 14% above Elvis and 12% above Rocketman for the same grouping, making it the second biggest music biopic opening behind only Bohemian Rhapsody.
Starring Kingsley Ben-Adir, currently attending the BAFTA Film Awards here in London, Bob Marley: One Love opened at No. 1 in 13 markets and set new opening-day records for a music biopic in the UK and France among others.
In Jamaica, it now holds the record for the biggest film opening of all time.

Since the Best Animated Feature Oscar category was launched in 2002, 14 of the 21 winners of the Annies’ top feature prize – and seven of the past 11 – went on to claim the golden statuette. Last year followed suit, as Netflix’s Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio triumphed at both trophy shows.
On Sunday, Spider-Man scored wins for Directing, Music, Production Design, Character Design, FX and editing.

Over a year ago, it was revealed that Amazon was gearing up to produce a live-action series centered on Marvel’s Spider-Man Noir, a superhero entrenched in 1930s New York City. Diverging from the typical Spider-Man narrative, this series would spotlight an older, more rugged character distinct from Peter Parker. Spearheaded by Oren Uziel, the show promised to carve its own niche within the Marvel universe, with Uziel assuming roles as both writer and executive producer.
The endeavor attracted attention from industry luminaries like producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Uziel, celebrated for his contributions to films such as ’22 Jump Street’ and the 2021 ‘Mortal Kombat,’ brought his considerable talents to the project. This series was just one in a string of Marvel character-driven endeavors at Amazon, standing alongside ‘Silk: Spider Society.’

Studio Ghibli, like Western counterparts Disney, Pixar and the UK’s Aardman, is one of the most important animation studios in movie history. Since its first feature film, “Castle in the Sky” in 1986, Studio Ghibli has delivered two dozen thought-provoking tales beautifully rendered in a unique brand of animation. To date, its output has racked up have a lucky seven Oscar bids for Best Animated Feature.
“Spirited Away” was the first Studio Ghibli movie to break into the Academy Awards conversation and did so with aplomb in 2003. It won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature (Miyazaki the recipient) over “Ice Age,” “Lilo & Stitch,” “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron,” and “Treasure Planet.”
In 2006, Miyazaki was again nominated — this time for “Howl’s Moving Castle” alongside “Corpse Bride” and “Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit,” with the latter movie, an Aardman creation, reigning victorious.
