Nile: An African Odyssey
TheLittleSongbird8 October 2019
'Wildest Africa' from personal opinion is one of the best and most comprehensive looks at African wildlife. Yet it is also overlooked and under-viewed and it doesn't deserve that treatment, that it may not be ground-breaking as such does not matter. All thirteen episodes are consistently great, exploring a huge amount but never exhausting, confusing or boring the viewer and seldom in a way that feels over-stuffed or too hasty.

The Nile is one of the most famous environments explored in 'Wildest Africa' and one of the ones most familiar to me. That didn't though stop me from learning a big deal or considering it as great an episode as the previous five instalments. Like all the episodes of 'Wildest Africa', there is a huge amount of information in "Nile: An African Odyssey" but again like all the episodes it didn't feel like too much information to me, which is a potential danger with something that has a lot of content.

"Nile: An African Odyssey" looks as ever wonderful. It was great to see a spectacular location such as the Nile filmed so intimately and in a way that shows its full beauty without any sugar-coating. The music doesn't intrude and is suitably dynamic.

Colin Salmon narrates with real engagement with the material, bringing the right amount of enthusiasm and sincerity to it. The information itself is informative but doesn't come over as too academic, with a good and successful attempt in making the information accessible and emotionally investable.

All the different measurements and environmental pressures that is talked about are particularly educational, despite knowing it was the longest river in the world was never sure until now how long and how far it travelled.

In summary, another excellent instalment. 9/10
