Okay episode, AMAZING opening
chinbagdeluxe1 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is okay, but the opening makes it a great one. The mysterious final task, the surrealism of the frisbee collapse, Leonard's flashback, the overall funniness of it. Slowly losing the cast is really sad but at least the show is making the most of it.

Great season start!

Warning: Spoilers
I've binge watched community and in the end i found myself very fond of season 6, something i never was. Season six was for me almost as weak as season 4. But now i think it's just as good as all the other seasons.

This episode kicks off perfectly introducing Frankie, and doing it really well, showing that she had everything to be a awesome character (which turned out to happen). There's a lot of moments in this episode that are just classic community, like the montages of abed doing the chores and the brilliant apology montage, the underground bar scenes, Chang saying random gibberish while Frankie and Abed talk. I feel like people underrated most of community's seasons starts and this one is not an exception.

Good Start

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, everyone - we know its not as good as season 2 or 3, but I wouldnt call this a "bad" episode. Cons first -It does get a little cartoonish-ish with Britta burning the sandwiches, like something we would see in an anime. -While Annie has for sure grown into a leadership role with the group, I feel like it was SLIGHTLY out of character to see Frankie as a threat. I know its sort of on par with her past with drugs, and her competitiveness with Asian Annie. But not sure if it would get to the point she would join Jeff in a very illegal underground bar. -the Dean not addressing Shirley in the beginning

Pros: -absolutely LOVE the Abed/Jeff friendship. I really wish they explored this more. Jeff was more and more ok with "bits" like floor is lava and putting together the old timey bar. Meanwhile Abed matured a lot more, and they could essentially been a more mature "Tory and Abed". -If its your second (or more) time watching the show, Paget's character Frankie becomes awesome. -Dean's fake phone call bit was very "early-seasons" style. -I have watched this show around 6 times now, the dude climbing up the ladder makes me laugh out loud every time

One by one they all just fade away...

Warning: Spoilers
Shirley's gone. That leaves four of the original study group. Buzz Hickey has also left (no explanation given), so it's Paget Brewster stepping in as Frankie Dart.

You have a sense that season 6 can't go on into season 7 but really Dan Harmon did his best. Wonderful to see Shirley return for a cameo appearance.

I miss the original study group.

We're Sorry.. for season 5
MorganX-113 April 2023
So I've been binging community from the beginning and have read a few things online declaring seasons 1-3 the best of the bunch, which I totally agree with.

I've also seen several commenters saying that season 4 is the weakest of the 6 - a view I have to say I don't share. I believe that (dis)honour should go to season 5.

Season 5 seemed desperate to reclaim the outlandish and bonkers atmosphere of the earlier seasons, but wound up being a bit of a pale immitation of earlier seasons.

I would also have to say that the loss of Troy really hampered one of the funniest elements of the community formula; Abed's meta humour. It felt as if Troy and Abed were effectively a single unit up to this point, and losing half of that unit (probably the best bit of the show) was definitely a blow that couldn't be easily recovered from. Also the loss of Pierce (irritating as he could be) and the conflict he embodied was also detrimental to the show's formula.

So, by the end of season 5 I was kind of wondering if there was any point "saving" Greendale for another season. Basically at this point I'm just watching to see how it ends.

I don't mean to criticise Community too harshly - it's still more entertaining than a lot of the other drab and formulaic sitcoms out there, but I guess that's the danger of setting the bar so high to begin with.

With that in mind, the first episode of the final season wasn't too bad. For such a good show that shouldn't be much of an accolade, but compared to season 5 it's pretty high praise in my opinion.

Abed is more entertaining in this episode and the new character brings a different dynamic to the group. Abed's montage fixation this episode had a fairly amusing payoff too.

To sum up: This is a country mile from being a classic community episode, and it's clear the show has about snuffed it. But, based on the season 5 set-up, this wasn't the chore to get through that I was expecting.

And for what's left of the study group, that's kind of a win. A conclusion that makes me die inside a little, but I guess that's the best I can hope for at this point.

okay start for a possible final season..
Aktham_Tashtush18 March 2015
well first thank god yahoo picked the show up and ordered 13 episode.. i think this would be the final season,, the ratings are not that high but the show deserves an ending in a best way.

This season premiered really weak ,, thou adding a new character "Frankie" is nice after "Shirley" has gone too.

The other characters still have their jaunty traditional lines and personalities.

the show is still good but not great ,, i always measure other episodes in here vs two Legendary episodes, "the one in Halloween where Abed saves the day as batman" and "first paintball war in Greendale".

After all i hope the show ends in a decent memorable way.

No sense.
giovannipic22 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode makes no sense. After spending the whole of season 5 fighting to save Greendale, now the study group is basically rejecting any help to improve the school and actively sabotaging Frankie's efforts. And what's with Annie attending the "ladders" class? Completely out of character.

My god...what have you done to this once great show
jpapanone28 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is NOT community. Some of the characters are the same... but everything is off. Timing, pacing, writing, interaction, feel, flow, etc etc etc

I like Paget Brewster...but her character is terrible...and don't think she is a good fit for this show.

Hmmm...what else what else. I really don't have anything else to say. I feel compelled to elaborate more on how bad this actually is...but not much else is needed.

Abed is nothing without Troy. All other characters just...I'm not interested to seeing what happens to these people. Not a sign of a good show.

Was Dan Harmon still involved with these episodes? It sure as hell doesn't feel like it.

Spoiler...this show is not only not good...it is downright unwatchable.

There's a huge mistake in the opening scene
daisyisabaker7 February 2021
When Dean is announcing the "Study Group Members" individually, he DIDN'T mention Shirley.

Dean mentions that Abed wrote the announcements. So why is Abed shocked that Shirley isn't there anymore? Surely Abed would know that either Shirley: *Went away, which is why she wasn't announced *DIDNT go away, so there should have been a Shirley section in the announcement.

Why didn't Abed already know that she left?! How did he know already work it out by the omitted announcement?

Falling apart
ItsEmaBitch20 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Frankie character is terrible. Unlikable and lacks that goofiness that The Community is and needs. I liked the Abed-Jeff friendship, that underground bar and Dean's phone bit. Everything else sucks.
