Netflix has confirmed that a slew of new original series will be debuting on the streaming service in April. There will also be new to Netflix seasons of some of your favorites from other networks. Likewise, there will be plenty of movies making their first Netflix appearances including the animated classic “The Iron Giant” and several films in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Despicable Me” series.
Of the new Netflix originals, several stand out as particularly binge-worthy, including the freshman seasons of the remake of “Lost in Space” and the TV version of the Oscar-nominated animated film “The Boss Baby.” And there are episodes of both the new David Letterman and Joel McHale talk shows as well as a comedy special from Kevin James.

Cabin Fever – Netflix is, quite literally, in the midst of a horrific dilemma. Month after month, it keeps losing movies without bringing in suitable replacements for them. Now all it’s left with are a few genuinely great films amid a sea of dreck. While Cabin Fever is a deeply, deeply flawed film with major and unavoidable problems with pacing, tone and characterization, everything that it gets right it gets so right that it’s easy to overlook any otherwise glaring flaws. It’s no Sinister or Starry Eyes, granted, but under the circumstances, I’m more than willing to take what I

When author John Bellairs first delivered the elevator pitch for his 1973 novel, The House With a Clock in its Walls, the genre mash-up was hailed as something of a gothic horror story designed specifically with child readers in mind.
And nowhere is this family-friendly plot more apparent than in the spooky first trailer for Universal’s big-screen adaptation, which comes to us by way of Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Hostel) and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment – therein lies the intersection between shock horror and light-heartened fun for the whole family.
In saying that, you’d be forgiven for thinking that The House With a Clock in its Walls was actually Guillermo del Toro’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning efforts on The Shape of Water. Starring Jack Black (Goosebumps) and Cate Blanchett (Thor: Ragnarok), Eli Roth’s delightful adaptation tells the story of a young, recently-orphaned boy, played by Owen Vaccaro,...

“There’s a clock in the walls. We don’t know what it does… something horrible.” With films like Cabin Fever, Hostel and The Green Inferno, Eli Roth sure hasn’t established himself as a family-friendly filmmaker, but he stepped outside his comfort zone with this year’s Death Wish and he’s doing the same for his seventh feature. April showers might bring May flowers, but what to do during the rainy season? Why, modern movie-lover does when the weather outside is frightful, curl up with some Netflix. (Maybe get some chill in there, if you’re lucky). While not the most romantic of movies, classic crime lovers can enjoy Brian De Palma’s “Scarface,” which lands on the platform next month. After you get your fix of an infinitely quotable and smoldering Al Pacino, you can jump ahead to the equally as disturbing David Fincher classic, “Seven.”
A few tear-jerking Oscar winners also head to Netflix in April, including the Nicole Kidman, Renée Zellweger-starring “Cold Mountain,” and Roberto Benigni’s WWII drama “Life Is Beautiful.” For lighter fare, check out “The Iron Giant,” or both live-action “The Flinstones” movies (for my Rosie O’Donnell die-hards).
Hopefully, that’s enough to keep you busy until May. Check out...

Miles Morales is the second Spider-Man of Marvel's Ultimate universe, who picked up the legacy from Peter Parker. Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, he first came on the scene in 2011, and has recently been integrated into the Marvel Universe proper. Only a pessimist would write off 2016 after 6 weeks, but if you’re a horror fan, the year’s highest profile releases don’t inspire much confidence. Once again, sequels and reboots look set to dominate multiplexes, or if they don’t float your boat there’s always an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Cell. Yippee.
On VOD, things aren’t much better. Released on 12 February, Travis Zariwny’s remake of Cabin Fever (2002) currently holds a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was dismissed by the Los Angeles Times as “perfunctory and insipid.” Variety called it a “repurposed dud” while Nick Allen said it was “one of those questionably greedy, Xeroxed remakes, where its business is in restating, not just restarting or rebooting, what the original has done.”
Nobody believes that these films are going to be good, so pointing out that they’re not up to much feels like a redundancy.

Pelican Point Capital Partners via its media arm Pelican Point Media has formed Golden Gate Media in association with Cassian Elwes.
Golden Gate will focus on producing and financing two to five films a year in the $2-15m range.
Elwes and Ike Suri, who recently co-produced and co-financed the word-for-word remake of Cabin Fever directed by Travis Z, will serve as co-CEOs of Golden Gate.
“The opportunity to partner with Cassian on top-quality content and to attract the best and most capable talent to our projects was so compelling in the films we have pursued to date that Golden Gate was the next step in our relationship,” said Suri.
Elwes added: “Working with Ike and his team has been an absolute pleasure and I look forward to our continued success.”
