Really love this episode it gave me mega Tron vibes for some reason and I love Tron. And don't you dare tell me Black Mirror didn't copy this episode.

One of the best of Community
elmer-eskay31 May 2014
A stark, satirical look at one of the follies of our times.

Not just one of Community's best, but one of the finest episodes of television, ever.

It's on par with the best SNL skit you ever saw, but for 20+ minutes.

The premise is almost believable, especially in the Community universe.

The action never gets too far out of whack, with each new escalation toying with the possible.

The episode, as a whole, builds smoothly and without extraneous throwaway dialog. (Not that I would accuse other Community episodes, particularly, of that problem - this one is just the epitome.)

Every step along the way is entertaining and revelatory.

If anything, the ending is somewhat pedestrian (predictable?), but fulfilling.

In summary, this episode should go down as a classic of television entertainment.

So THAT'S where "Nosedive" came from....

I'd never heard of Community when I saw the Black Mirror episode on social media ratings.

I liked it, but this was a far superior take on it.

Black Mirror Plagiarised This

Community did this story way better. In my opinion, it was Black Mirror's WORST episode. But Community did the story so well and was the ORIGINAL

Logan's Run Redux
MozaikAngel1 March 2023
When I was a kid in the 70s, I remember watching the film Logan's Run on TV and being very freaked out. This episode of Community is brilliant in its faithfulness to the look and disturbing feel of the film. I grew up believing that in the future, everyone would wear flowy robes in primary colors. The appearance of Mitchell Hurwitz is brilliant as Community owes a debt of gratitude to Arrested Development. One of Community's best episodes, In my opinion. A funny, freaky homage to a great 1970s sci-fi flick that I love so dearly. I've said all I want to say but IMDB is forcing me to continue until I meet the minimum.

It's now December 2021, around 5+ years after this episode came out

Using mobile phones to determine social class and mobility? My word were they ahead of the curve...

I always enjoyed this episode, but after watching the abysmal ripoff episode Nosedive from Black Mirror, I appreciate this absolute gem of an episode even more. Do yourself a favor and watch this episode 3 times in a row rather than that awful episode. Or that show, to be honest.

Warning: Spoilers
I can't remember which episode I watched first, this one or Black Mirror's Nosedive. Anyway, it's hard to believe Nosedive didn't copy App Development and Condiments. What happened to originality in script writing?

Nosedive speaks volumes about social media and ratings, and this episode is more relevant now for sure. Ratings is everything for better or worse really.

Black Mirror

I know pretty much everyone on here compared this episode to "Black Mirror", but I also thought of the episode of "The Orville" where the entire globe (an AU of our world) depended on your reputation based on a rating system. If you're lower than a certain point, you're pretty much screwed for the rest of your life.

I'm still watching this episode, but I thought I'd point that out. Other than that, it's not the same without Troy, but I looked into why he left and understand his choice.

Top many fives

The only reason this episode is not rated a 5 is because of all the ones ruining it for the rest.. just like the black mirror Nosedive episode it .. well dives into the idiocy of social media.. SO many topics are being adressed in such a cool level that I think it transpires the normal level of a tv show and it enters a whole new level of excellence. And I should know because I am a one becoming the new leadership.. No the new thing you want to be: a sheep cloacked as a wolf in a sheeps skin under a wolf unbrella with a sheep's pelt in my throne while shaming wolves for eating sheep and SO on ;)
