This article contains major The Invisible Man spoilers.
The Invisible Man is an excellent horror film packed with shocks and scares and with a fun ending which contains several twists. But it’s possible director Leigh Whannell might have intended to pull the rug out from under the viewer one last time, offering the opportunity for a very different alternative reading of what actually happens to Cecilia.
In the ending we see onscreen, Cecilia (Elisabeth Moss) escapes the institution she’s locked in, is cleared of killing her sister and is able to exact a fitting revenge on her abusive husband Adrian (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) with the help of her friend James (Aldis Hodge) who finally believes she was being tortured by her invisible ex. It’s a triumphant ending for Cecilia that’s pure wish fulfillment.
But sometimes when something feels too good to be true that’s because it is.

VHYes is more than a celebration of 80s video culture. It provides perfect hindsight for 2020.

VHYes is a terrible title for a very cool and misleadingly smart and innovative movie. The film was directed by Jack Henry Robbins, the son of Susan Sarandon and Tim Roberts, both cult movie icons. Sarandon for her turns in Pretty Baby and the absolute pinnacle of midnight movies, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Roberts, to me for his Jacob in the dread film masterpiece Jacob's Ladder, but at the very least for Tapeheads, a film about the video industry itself, or Howard the Duck. VHYes is an exciting return to the true cult films of decades ago. But you have to get past the title. That could also be a point.

"He's weak, he's lonely, and he's nothing without me." Samuel Goldwyn Films & Shudder have released a teaser trailer for Daniel Isn't Real, an Ace Pictures and SpectreVision Production (that is Elijah Wood's company and he produced this). Made by writer / director Adam Egypt Mortimer, and adapted from Brian DeLeeuw's novel, the film is about a college freshmen who resurrects his childhood imaginary friend Daniel to help him cope. Miles Robbins stars as Luke, with Patrick Schwarzenegger playing his friend Daniel, plus Sasha Lane, Hannah Marks, and Mary Stuart Masterson. This thriller has a very surreal, trippy look and feel - almost like the original Jacob's Ladder movie more than the remake. It's only a teaser trailer so I'm curious to see more footage, but this looks like much more of a psychological horror than expected. Here's the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Adam Egypt Mortimer's Daniel Isn't Real,...

"He begins hallucinating, believes he is being followed by violent attackers and becomes paranoid about the truth of what really happened to his brother. When he discovers that his brother is alive and addicted to an experimental drug, he uncovers a secret he never could have been prepared for.

As the ’70s and ’80s wave of horror gets sucked dry, the ’90s become ripe for remaking, evident in the new “Jacob’s Ladder,” based off the 1990 cult classic directed by Adrian Lyne and starring Tim Robbins. The new films follows the same plot as the original, with a soldier returning home from war and experiencing a particularly bad form of Ptsd.
When it comes to the stream of remakes overflowing in the annual slate of films, horror – specifically titles of a strong cult following – is a prime and vulnerable victim of the remake onslaught.

Director David M. Rosenthal’s reimagining of “Jacob’s Ladder,” the 1990 psychological thriller directed by Adrian Lyne and starring Tim Robbins, is finally readying for release, six years after the project was launched. Written by Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorp, this new take on the story stars Michael Ealy, Jesse Williams, and Nicole Beharie as part of an all-black cast.
First announced in 2013 and finally shot in 2016, Ld Entertainment’s remake has remained mostly shrouded in secrecy. The production company’s stated goal was to produce more of an homage, rather than a copy of the original, contemporizing the story while remaining true to the issues it examines and questions raised.
In the original, scripted by Bruce Joel Rubin, the protagonist is a Vietnam veteran whose experiences prior to and during the war result in fragmented flashbacks and bizarre hallucinations that continue to haunt him as he desperately tries to...

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin has another drama coming to cable television. NBC/Universal's Syfy is near a deal to pick up Martin's Nightflyers to series. THR reports that Universal Cable Productions is negotiating with Netflix for a streaming deal.
The network picked up the pilot back in June after being put in development since May. Production on the pilot is already underway but the cast has not yet been determined.
The Nightflyers series is based on Martin's 1980 novel and the 1987 film. Here is the synopsis:
It is the future, on the eve of Earth's destruction and follows a group of explorers on the most advanced ship in the galaxy, The Nightflyer, to intercept a mysterious alien spacecraft that might hold the key to their survival. As the crew nears their destination, they discover that the ship’s artificial intelligence and never-seen captain may be steering them into...

Meowing might become a scary sound again, as a reboot of The Grudge, itself a remake of the Japanese film Ju-on: The Grudge, now has a director.
According to Deadline, the latest film in The Grudge franchise is set to be directed and rewritten by Nicolas Pesce, the filmmaker behind 2016's The Eyes of My Mother, a big hit on the festival circuit and a film that our own Heather Wixson called "a hauntingly provocative slice of gothic cinema" in her review.
Pesce is expected to provide additional work to a previous screenplay written by Jeff Buhler, who adapted Clive Barker's The Midnight Meat Train for the screen and also co-wrote the upcoming Jacob's Ladder remake.
A Ghost House Pictures film, The Grudge reboot will be executive produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Taka Ichise. Roy Lee, Doug Davison, Joe Drake, and Nathan Kahane.

Syfy has greenlighted a pilot for Nightflyers, a supernatural thriller based on the novella by George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones) and the 1987 film. Additionally, I hear that the project, from Universal Cable Prods. and studio-based Hypnotic (USA’s Suits), is in the process of setting up a writers room to generate backup scripts in preparation for a potential series pickup. Jeff Buhler (Jacob's Ladder) wrote the adaptation of Nightflyers, which is set in the future on…...

Actor Jesse Williams was praised during the Bet Awards when the “Grey’s Anatomy” star received the Humanitarian Award and used his time on stage to speak out about racial inequalities and police brutality. But now, a Change.com petition is calling for the actor to be fired from the Shonda Rhimes’ series.
According to the petition created by a user named Erin Smith, “Jesse Williams spewed a racist, hate speech against law enforcement and white people at the Bet awards. If this was a white person making the same speech about an African American, they would have been fired and globally chastised, as they should be, but there has been no consequences to Williams’ actions. There’s been no companies making a stand against his racist remarks and no swift action condemning his negative attitude.”

Karla Souza ("How to Get Away With Murder") has scored a role in David M. Rosenthal's re-imagining of Adrian Lynne's famously trippy 1990 thriller "Jacob's Ladder" for Ld Entertainment.
Souza will play Annie/Angel, a trauma nurse who works with Jacob's medical crew in Afghanistan, the new film updating the film's setting from the Vietnam war elements that were a part of the first.
Jeff Buhler and Sarah Thorp penned the new take which Mickey Liddell, Pete Shilaimon, Jennifer Monroe, Alison Rosenzweig and Michael Gaeta will produce.

Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures and Good Universe are planning to remake the 2004 horror film The Grudge, which is already a remake of the Japanese film Ju-On. Both were directed by Takashi Shimizu.
The studio is already working on it and has hired Midnight Meat Train scribe Jeff Buhler to write the script. He is also working on a remake of the insane movie Jacob's Ladder.
The American version starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as a nurse living and working in Tokyo. She is exposed to a mysterious supernatural curse that locks a person in a powerful rage before claiming their life and spreading to another victim. It cost around $10 million to make. In the end it pulled in $187 million worldwide and led to a terrible sequel.
The new film will be produced by Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Taka Ichise. I thought we were over the phase of scary pale killer ghost kids.
