Strong contender for best episode of the entire series
minebag20 December 2023
Perfection. The only episode that had me thinking about it days after watching. From start to finish I was hooked. And then that ending... my God.

I find it interesting that the writer of this episode also wrote the Spaghetti one, which was my second favorite of the season. Hope she sticks around. Would love to see what else she has to offer. I'm super proud of the entire team for pulling off a hell of a season amidst the drama that unfolded. Seems like they ignored the haters, put pencils to paper and, wrote the best stories they could. Fanbases-especially ones as big and vocal and tough as this one-can be tough to impress and make happy. Well, I can say you at least impressed the hell out of this fanboy. See you all next season.

A great finale!
aboalhyjaa19 December 2023
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Rick and Morty in the way we used to know in the first couple of seasons, and if im being honest, i never thought i would say this phrase on season 7! Especially with the not so good start and everything happening with the main characters voice actor, but boy oh boy i was wrong, this season gave Rick his peace by doing what he wanted to do since episode one and gave Morty his peace with this episode! Which I truly like, there's nothing to fear but fear itself, it couldn't been said any better and it definitely couldn't be done any better than this!

For anyone reading this who lost hope on Rick and Morty and stopped watching, i please you to at least try to watch this season to the final episode, it deserves some patience as it was actually decent and definitely not the worst season out here yet!

Are you in the hole?
kushtrimsimoni18 December 2023
Wow, speechless really.

My biggest fear for this season i guess was that the finale gonna be some crappy episode, because we've either seen great or horrible, almost no in between.

But this episode, in my opinion ks definitely THE CLASSIEST OF RICK AND MORTY.

It had everything and then more... I swear 30 min after watching and i still have goosebumps... i was more surprised than the prime rick episode.

It really made me question my fears and how we (me) sometimes ignore or lie to ourselves when instead we should be voluntary face them (as Dr. Jordan Peterson says)

Thats it, no spoilers for this episode. I know you gonna love it. The best Rick and Morty has to offer.

Hats off!

Ps: good luck to each and everyone reading this on getting out of the hole!

While Rick and Morty is now missing a story arch that they can focus on every so episode, it will be difficult to keep their audience long term. However this episode was a perfect example of why people love the show and what they need to do more of as they figure out their next 'big thing'. This is the type of episode that would never make the show dull. Funny and emotional at times but also makes you think. It was pretty funny that Rick and Morty in this episode were basically saying the things that we were thinking. Making it even more engaging as it felt like you were part of the show. This season did have a few misses but in my opinion more hits for sure. It's always great to end on a high note too. Overall I give season 7 an 8.5/10.

Perfect!
hayk67818 December 2023
I have never wrote a review for a show, let alone an episode. But this episode was something else. The season so far was pretty inconsistent having a good episode after a terrible one. However the finale is really worth talking about. It began casual just like any other episode but at the end left me speechless. Felt like inception under 20 minutes. This is going to be my favorite episode of the show, if not my favorite episode of all time.

After all, having the ending in plain sight is what makes "Rick and Morty" outstanding from any other animated or sci-fi show. I hope Season 8 will be as good as this one keeping the consistency.

They went out with a BANG.

Warning: Spoilers
This might actually be one of the best season finales in the show! Which is pretty surprising because it isn't one of those season finales where the entire episode is canon stuff or has some huge revelations. It's just THAT good.

At first I wasn't super impressed with the idea of the fear hole but they executed it wonderfully here. Some terrifying scenes here, some absolutely hilarious scenes there (the scene where we get a whole montage about Morty growing up just for it to suddenly lead to an "I became my dad" joke made me laugh way too hard) and some actually sweet scenes in the middle. Also, Rick and Diane were only hanging out in Morty's head since Rick wasn't in the hole, but it was still nice to see what could have been.

This episode was written by Heather Anne Campbell and so far every episode she's written have been among the best episodes from their seasons, so she really deserves more praise and I hope she will stay around for more seasons to come.

As for the season as a whole, it was one of the most inconsistent seasons of the show but its best episodes were also the best Rick and Morty has been in years so I will put it right in the middle. 5 < 4 < 1 < 7 < 3 < 6 < 2.

COULD BE RANKED TOP 5 IN RM HISTORY
zhaosiqi-8616618 December 2023
Although there is no main plot in this episode, it is even more exciting than the main plot in episode 5. It explores the psychology of Rick and Morty and their relationship to the extreme, and marks Rick's transformation from nihilism after revenge to existentialism. I'm looking forward to the unfolding of the new storyline in Season 8. After going through so much (about creator Justin Roiland), Season 7 still has two to four quite exciting episodes, at least surpassing Seasons 4 to 6. If it weren't for Episodes 1 and 8, it would be on the same high level as the first three seasons. It is not easy for a series to maintain this quality after ten years. I hope the creative team can persevere.

Just Wow
michaelballone-1703822 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I can seriously consider this at the #1 spot when debating best episode of the show, just wow. As far as hitting all points I want out of an episode it did that, and visually the episode was great with everything about the hole. I thought that it was a great psychological thrill and showed the current state of the characters post rick prime era. Morty's true feelings are shown very well. And the hole guy was SO creepy, I loved it. He had some amazing dialogue between him and morty. Really all around the board every character had good meaningful dialogue. Rick to Morty, Rick and Diane, Morty and Hole Guy, all of it. Really Really good episode here and I loved how they chose to end this season, with not a canonical advancement but a psychological one, and they did it perfectly.

My Favorite Episode Of All Time
dstaster19 December 2023
I feel like I just witnessed a miracle. This episode recaptures the feeling I used to get watching early seasons of Rick & Morty. But with the weight of seven seasons it ends up being a real treat. A deeply psychological mindfrick, you can't help but reflect on your own life and what you would do if faced with the same scenario.

Season Seven has had some pretty terrible episodes and some pretty awesome ones, but this was a perfect episode. I was totally engrossed in the experienced. This episode was crisp and clean in its writing, without parts that felt rough around the edges. If this was the finale to the entire show I would have been satisfied. It's that good.

What an Episode...
edeltavid19 December 2023
I came into this season with low expectations, and the first few episodes didn't really hit the mark for me, then it started getting better and better until we got this absolute gem of an episode. A perfectly concocted mix of nihilistic humour, exestential ideas and brilliant writing made this by far my favorite episode of the season, and arguably one of the best episodes of the entire show, I came out of it with the same feeling I had after watching the 'vat of acid' episode, and I am so happy that the writers and new voice actors have really pushed past all the troubles and delivered an excellent season that I think turned out to be more enjoyable than season 6. I hope that they will keep up the good work, and I look forward to season 8!

Heather Anne Campbell
giantsfanj30 December 2023
In my opinion. When you're watch Rick & Morty you can tell within a few minutes that an episode is written by the incredible Heather Anne Campbell. A truly inspired and intelligent writer that always mixes heart with laughs. This episode is no exception. I love watching an episode and about five or so minutes in, pausing the show to go check IMDB to see if I'm write. Than I just get to sit back and watch what I know will be a great episode. I hope to see more written by her next season as she brings a style that is not only original but special. I'm just a fan that loves being surprised by what I'm watching. You rock!

It's a perfect Rick and Morty episode. Plain and simple. I'm glad it had a brilliant ending after possibly the worst season yet.

I'm sure the making of this season was an absolute headache with the new voice actors and all of the extra nonsense that the showrunners would have faced.

I hope they take extra care in the writing process in the coming seasons and learn from the multiple mistakes they made this time around. I cannot handle a Rick and Morty fall-off.

Ultimately it was a great close and I'm super excited for the new season - which I did not expect at all until this episode was released.

Favorite episode this season, second favorite episode in RM
deanoabcdgod20 December 2023
Listen, I have been watching this for 7 years. I have seen great episodes and bad ones too. Season 1 isn't the greatest season, but definitely attracted my attention with its incredible and wonderful ideas and adventures. I know we all like these main plots about evil morty, Prime rick these things, And it is true that the episode with evil morty come back with golden gate is my favorite episode. If that one shows the best for main plots, then this episode brings back why I love Rick and Morty, It is the best daily adventure, It reminds me why I was attracted by it and tells me I can always trust it.

Best episode in a while..
cse-7187019 December 2023
This actually felt like what rick and morty writers themselves consider 'a classic adventure' I am sad churry didn't make it into this episode.

The season overall has been a bumpy ride, but overall an improvement on the last season. To be frank the meta-meta-meta references are not very fun, the heart of rick and morty is mostly taking strange ideas and following it to its ridiculous conclusion, thats where episodes like vat of acid, thats a morte, and this episode shine in.

This season also had a lot of callbacks, but there were not enough reasons for the callbacks, they were callbacks for the sake of being callbacks. But when they take themselves seriously, its a joy to watch those episodes.

(Rise of numericons suffered from the lack of any serious matter)

This episode actually helped me
mpacella-961539 February 2024
This season, even though there wasn't Justin Roiland, was very good (except one episode),but this episode? This episode not only has the classic Rick and Morty style of 2013-2014,but it's better than all of the previous seasons.

I watched this episode separated from the rest because,as i was seeing them,i received a message telling me that the father of one of my dearest friends died. This news hit me like a freight train,so much that i had to stop everything to calm down.

I barely eat, barely slept, i was anxious all the time between this news and the funeral,so i decided to watch this last episode in an attempt to distract myself and man,it really helped me.

This episode explore the theme of fear,of death,of uncertainty,it sets you right in the middle and confuse you so much that you're starting to question your own reality.

At the end of the episode i felt...lighter. It taught me that i have some fears that i have need to fight and that it's okay to doubt sometimes,if the scope is to win over those fears.

A great homage to The X-Files "Field Trip" episode S06 E21 !!
patrickrichardfile8 February 2024
I immediately recognized this was based on that X-Files episode, which was a favourite of mine.

The execution here is flawless, the comedic timing priceless and the suspense it provides is top-notch.

This might be a top 5 Rick and Morty episode and it will be really hard to have it go out of that rank. This season was a mix of ups and downs, but they sure waited for last to provide the gold. What a thrill! I was amazed, from start to finish. You could also just show this only episode to a person that has not watched Rick and Morty ever, and they will enjoy it as it is.

Please, more of this creativity.

If you have to take more ideas from The X-Files, DO !!

Morty finally expanded.
JoshuaDrago20 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
For a very long time, it seemed like the writers of the show were disinterested in continuing the story arc of Morty. Although he had small, subtle changes and some storylines with him at the centre, his intricate relationship with Rick got put on the sideburner.

What happens to a teenage boy once their entire life gets hijacked by an intellectually superior family member who repeatedly tells him he's replaceable, annoying and just kept around for his "stupid brain waves?" Well, he slowly starts to fill that role and falls into constant pleasing of his perceived "superior."

This episode deals with that dynamic by completely taking Rick out of the equation and focusing on Morty's mind. We come to see Morty had become compliant and reliant on Rick, that his greatest fear was Rick not caring about Morty. As he explains "I'm afraid that if I jumped into a hole you wouldn't even bother jumping in after me."

This exploration of Morty's mind comes to make a fun, but dark episode of what-if's in the Rick & Morty universe. One that, really, should have happened much sooner. Although overdue, it's impossible to deny this episode is not Rick and Morty at it's best, dark, funny, sci-fi and finally, character-driven again.

10/10 from me.

Warning: Spoilers
I just finished watching this episode. I have never been more traumatised in my life nor have I ever seen an episode more philosophical. The episode starts without an intro which I completely understand. Fear No Mort really describes what the entire show is really about.

It was also the first time I was absolutely stunned by an episode of rm. The fact that Rick didn't go after him baffles me. It really was all about Morty the entire time. One of the best placed plottwists I have ever seen. I find it also fascinating that Diane was there, like they really fk tricked u into thinking it was also about Ricks fear. The credit scene was kinda odd, im guessing mr poopybutthole is also in the hole? Now that im writing it it maybe a wordplay on the face that his name has hole in it?? Who knows. I will definitely watch this episode again... and again and again. AMAZING!!

A Profound Journey into Fear and Relationships
matthewgreen498819 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Season 7's finale, "Fear No Mort," takes "Rick and Morty" to new emotional depths, masterfully combining humor, horror, and heartfelt storytelling. The episode revolves around a Fear Hole that exposes Rick and Morty to their greatest fears, leading to a profound exploration of their characters.

The narrative's brilliance lies in its thematic focus on fear. The Fear Hole, a bizarre yet intriguing concept, serves as a catalyst for character development, particularly for Rick, as he confronts his past and his feelings about his late wife, Diane. The episode beautifully manifests Diane, delving into her relationship with Rick, a facet of the show previously unexplored. This exploration provides a new dimension to Rick's character, showcasing vulnerability beneath his often nihilistic exterior. However, as we later learn, this is all manifested by Morty, so we should keep in mind that none of this growth is actually happening to Rick and the degree to which there is any truth in Rick's side of the experiences should be taken with a grain of salt.

Morty's character arc is equally compelling. His journey through the Fear Hole leads to a touching realization about his relationship with Rick. The show addresses the growing concern about Morty's desensitization from their adventures, and his fear of being left behind by Rick is poignantly resolved, signaling a healthier dynamic moving forward. The episode's emotional weight is balanced with the series' signature humor and meta-commentary. The encounter with a Rod Serling-like figure adds a classic sci-fi twist, keeping the narrative fresh and engaging. The script, written by Heather Anne Campbell, stands out for its dark, "Black Mirror"-esque tones, adding a layer of depth to the series' usual style.

New voice actor Ian Cardoni, taking on the role of Rick, delivers a commendable performance, especially considering the emotional complexity of the episode. The finale is filled with twists, culminating in a revelation that the Fear Hole is only reflecting Morty's fears, a clever narrative choice that adds to the episode's impact.

"Fear No Mort" is a high end to a season of hits and misses, setting up intriguing possibilities for the future. With both Rick and Morty facing and overcoming their fears, the episode not only delivers a satisfying conclusion but also paves the way for new adventures.

The best episode yet
imaya3319 December 2023
As Rick and Morty engage with their fears my own reaction went from fear to release, to fear and release again. The writing was so human and so relatable. As R&M explore these nooks and crannies about what they are afraid of I couldn't help but ask myself what it is that I am afraid of and wondering how it would be for me to endure the same hole. Honestly this episode felt cathartic on a personal level. What great writing, amazing stuff to everyone who was involved! I loved the humanity of it and watching this, letting it sink it also felt like I could unburden myself. Again kudos, to the writers. How a drawing of two gross guys in space could move me this much, I have no idea.

Hole = missing piece inside of yourself. I get it.

Rick and Morty Season 7 Episode 10 Review!
Chaosfn18 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The final Episode of Season 7 for Rick and Morty is absolutely brilliant, I'll be going into spoilers so here is your spoiler warning. Rick and Morty were on this planet to try to get scared for the thrill of it but both of them weren't scared at all, but then they meet this mysterious and suspicious man that said he knows a really scary place to go that is on Earth, so both Rick and Morty agreed to bring him along to check out what he is talking about. Once they got there it turned out the place was just a Denny's, but once they went inside the waiter said that the hole is in the restrooms. Rick and Morty went over to the hole and then they found this tape, the tape said that anyone who entered this hole will conquer there greatest fear, so Morty jumped into the hole and then so did Rick, they both escaped the hole and went back to their house and then right out of nowhere while they were watching TV with the rest of their family a portal appears and a younger Rick falls out the portal with Diane and the younger Rick get incinerated right out of nowhere, the whole entire family kept asking Rick what is going on while both Rick and Morty stared at Diane in fear, they both realized that they're still in the hole. Anyway that's what happens at the beginning of the Episode, Overall I give this Episode a 5/5. I also overall give Rick and Morty Season 7 a 4.5/5, I think this is another great Season of this Series and I'm definitely excited for Season 8 next year!

Generational trauma
pgpadron1 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Great episode. When it is revealed that it was Morty's individual journey all along we see how much he was affected by generational trauma in his family and how much of his identity relies on his relationship with Rick.

We finally get to know more about Diane, but her behavior is based solely on what Morty knows about her from his mother and from Rick.

Rick and Diane's dynamic is Morty's projection from his limited knowledge of her, but we get to see so much of it because it became a priority for him. More than his own issues.

Morty carries so much baggage from his relationship with Rick that it takes quite a few iterations inside the hole until he gets to face his fears in different contexts and with other people. But since his identity is mostly defined by his relationship with Rick, so is his ultimate fear.

Even though we get to see Rick finally going to therapy in previous episodes, he is so reluctant about the whole thing that Morty still displays more courage to face his fears and his baggage from a dysfunctional family dynamic by being the one who jumped into the hole.

Warning: Spoilers
The quality jumps in this season is kind of jarring. Some of it was so great and some of it was pretty average or just bad. And then they decide to end it with one of the best episodes in the series. What the heck?

This was excellent. The hole concept is very original and fascinating. I kept wonder for the entire episode what was and wasn't, and if I would dare step foot on the hole myself if given the opportunity. The pacing and directing here was really, really good.

I love that it's really a Morty-centric episode. I love what they ended up doing with his character and the hole, and I think it's so sweet that Rick carries around a picture of Morty with him. The last frame solidified how much Morty does mean to him despite Morty's fear of being replaceable. It's a perfect ending for their arc, and I'd argue a really important episode to the series even if it didn't further develop any big plot.

I was weirded out that Rick Prime had his due halfway through the series, but I'm glad the season still ended on such a surprisingly high note.

I thought Season 7 was good overall. Some dips and dives, and Season 6 was more consistent in terms of quality, but this wasn't bad at all. And I thought the new voice actors did a great job!

you can be great or you can be around forever
nerrdrage14 April 2024
Well we know Dan Harmon's greatest fear now, since he just treated us to a whole episode on the topic. That Rick & Morty will drag on so long that it starts to suck like Lost or drag on embarrassingly like Futurama (catch that Problem with Poppler's scene?)

Rick & Morty is halfway to current Futurama status now, with a season that was more than 50% sucky. However this episode, in classic meta-fashion, argues for the show to continue on during its dwindling half-life. Better to suffer through 5 bad episodes to get 5 good ones, than get no good episodes at all, right?

As for the fear of being dispensable, I haven't thought about the new voice actors since early in the season.

I wonder whether this episode might be revisited two seasons from now...
