Just getting started
hazangel-8991016 December 2023
I continue to try and savour these episodes. Not watching them too quickly because waiting a whole week for the next episode sounds like torture.

I was thinking about why I enjoy this show so much (not having seen or read any Reacher material prior). I figure it's because Reacher reminds me a little of the Punisher. They are men of very few words, direct, to the point and honest. They get the job done! Epitome of strong silent type.

This episode had a little action but focused on getting to know more of the team. They have great chemistry.

Reacher is getting more and more angry as he is finding out his friends' fate. I cant wait until he makes the ones responsible for it all pay!!!

Still kind of OK
puzgolac7 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Pretty similar to the first episode of this season, this episode is also OK. Not great, not terrible, as the quote goes. So far the episodes do just enough to make you keep on watching.

Here we get some more info about the investigation that was the cause of death for the members of the 110th, but it's just a spoonful more. It is still not clear why the bad guys are going for the whole of 110th, thought there is a hint about an investigation they did once. There are two more dead members, but Swan is still not accounted for. Dead? Or one of the bad guys? I hope they will not go for "your buddy is actually the bad guy" worn out trope.

Speaking of the 110th, I still don't feel a real connection between them. And instead of personalities, they got quick labels, and the viewer is supposed to assign a ready made personality according to them.

Concerning personalities, Reacher's hasn't really been made that well. Sometimes he is incredibly cool and stoic, but other times he acts rashly and impulsively. Sometimes he is a genius who understands every detail, whether it concerns things or people, other times he comes across as kind of dumb and autistic. This last part is obviously done for comic relief, but it feels off. And considering that he used to be an investigator, it is odd how he never interrogates the suspects. He just kills them and I guess then he relies on those flashes of genius to get the information he needs.

We get the Reacher shirtless scene, so that all of Ritchson's hard work on his physique would not be in vain. We also get an awkward sex scene between Reacher and Dixon that looks more like a fight for dominance and who gets to be on top.

A few dumb moments in this episode too: Reacher knocks the cop out with a couple of blows, but then he deals twice as much punishment for less than half an effect on the guy in the bar. Dixon is a scrawny accountant, but she is also a super fighter; guess Reacher's toughness is infectious. The concrete in the construction site changes consistency as needed - first it's hard enough to support Reacher walking on it, and moments later it is as mushy as an oatmeal, so that Reacher can conveniently drown the bad guy in it. Speaking of that concrete, somebody should really do a quality control, because apparently, blocks made from it are of such a subpar quality that you can smash them full force on a person's head without causing them any kind of injury.

Overall, this episode is between 6 and 7, just like the first one. I gave the first one a 6, so this gets a 7.

Plenty of Bad Guys
Hitchcoc20 December 2023
There is more attrition here as the force begins to dwindle. We have been introduced to a slight guy, sort of foreign and psychotic. He is at the center of everything. This is about weapons and their distribution. Obviously, big money is at the center. We have a scene where the remaining member talk about their recent exploits and Reacher comes across as a bit of a neanderthal. He is all male and then some, resembling the Hulk when he takes his shirt off. We have the first sexual encounter and it is done in a dull, sort of animalistic way. There are paid killers under every rock. Things are getting set up now for a convergence of the twain.

After a big start things slow down a bit.
MiloSuperSpesh15 December 2023
This episode is still a meaty 45 mins of awesome, but it's a slower pace and more relaxed effort as they spend a fair bit of time sat around talking and explaining, inbetween action, sass, wholesomeness, and good fights bring things back on track.

This episode has a few moments from the trailer ( construction site) which still feels funnier than it should be, some subtle references and call backs, and we get more teases for the big bad.

Cast chemistry shines once again, well directed and fitting music.

Not sure i buy in to somethings that happen as it has a bit of disbelief needing to be suspended.

But it's still great to watch reacher do reacher things !

Shame the whole season isn't out in one go cos it's even more bingeable than s1.

it was great

Warning: Spoilers
The third guy, O Connel, is good. He is wise ass cracking jokes that makes the interactions much more fun.

If I remember correctly, except from Neagly, all the other members were guys, even Dixon..

The guy portraying the director of security is a good actor.. i remember him from other shows and movies..

The action scenes in this episode were kinda boring.. made no sense for Reacher to climb to the top of that structure to fight the guy.. he should have just ambushed them like Dixon did.. so splitting up made no sense..

but anyway, overall it was a good episode due to the team together.. just Reacher by himself makes it complicated like you were watching a video of a mute person.. or a movie like nick cage recent flick similar to that 5 nights at freddys.. anyway.

"Don't look at me. You did all the work."
LegendaryFang5621 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
(1,498-word review) I can't remember how the pacing of the first season was; it may very well have been the same or similar enough, which is beside the point. My point is that, because I can't remember, I can't compare it to the pacing here - no reason for wanting to do that beyond comparison's sake; I like and desire to be as thorough as possible. By itself, and I know this is only the second episode, the pacing felt slow. And part of me thinks that, for many people, it can be relatively easy to forget something like that in the heat of the moment, at least in scenarios like this where you're only two episodes in or at the start with more ahead.

The result can be having an unintentionally disingenuous opinion and outlook toward what you just watched after the fact: "This was too slow," "I can't believe how boring this was," "Where is the action?" - so on and so forth. Latching onto those kinds of opinions and mindsets, while lacking a crucial and essential, little thing by the name of 'introspection,' can happen even easier (possibly more often, as some people may have similar opinions of a piece of media regardless of possessing contextual knowledge at any point) than forgetting that sentiments or questions of such a nature aren't relevant because you've only just watched the second episode of a show/season or you're at the beginning.

In this context, the somewhat slow pacing is completely understandable. And, looking at it from a broader perspective, that's better in multiple ways than moving things along too quickly. I would rather various (and preferably all) facets at play here, not just plot-related, to be allowed the necessity, albeit privileged, of cooking and progressing at a slower but steady enough pace, even though a small part of me usually wants the exciting "meat" right away.

Ultimately, it's a matter of pacing YOURSELF - keeping YOURSELF and your hasty, impulsive thoughts in check, and realizing the most desirable sections of the "meat" will eventually be served to you. It comes down to patience and how much you're willing to muster.

I had no issue with it. This was considerably better than the premiere. I thoroughly enjoyed it. A significant reason for that boils down to the slower pacing, in a manner of speaking, due to what we got in return: individual and collective character development of these characters alongside Reacher, which was mostly done and showcased through the scene in the suite with them. That scene was great. I liked that specific instance of them having time together and their overall time together in this episode. Alan Ritchson, Serinda Swan, Shaun Sipos, and Maria Sten have excellent chemistry with each other.

My attention was intently grabbed by Dixon and Reacher's deeply personal moments during the whole crew's conversation scene, including their talk while walking, and their preceding interaction of flirtation before the "sex scene"/makeout session to imply what's about to happen (spoiler alert: he got beaten for the first time in his life), which, in and of itself, was exciting to see - for two reasons: 1.) they've, at last, done what they wanted to do in the past, and (2.) the less-than-tiny sneak peek we saw, despite the "tameness" of what the full nature of the act itself entails, somehow had a detectable level of eroticism and sensuality to it beyond what tamer scenes like that in shows and films usually seem to possess. The lighting, camera angles, and the song played into it. They seem to have a spark - an extra-sizzling effect, significantly and noticeably a level further than the spark between him and Roscoe, which I'm 110% here for.

By the way, Alan Ritchson, when shirtless, before they got to it, looked to be twice as huge and chiseled as he was in the first season, where he was already pretty huge and chiseled. It's almost to the point of having an immediate worry for his health. I'm sure he's surrounded by exceptional-in-their-field people who are ensuring his health, on all fronts, is top-notch and in good condition.

The humor amongst these characters feels natural and as charming as the humor was in the first season. Everyone seems to mesh well together, and so soon. That's both a testament to good writing but especially the great jobs done by every actor; assumably, they hardly knew each other during this point of filming, yet all of them were able to achieve this level of camaraderie in the arena of acting/pretend. O'Donnell is by far the primary source of that, and he's on the fast track toward becoming a favorite of mine - unless he's made it there by now. I'm going to say something outrageous but subjective: Neagley, O'Donnell, and Dixon have already reached, possibly exceeded, the esteemed status of Finlay and Roscoe. For me - though I have a feeling many others felt the same way. I want O'Donnell and Dixon to return in the third season (and any after that), but I doubt that will happen. Dixon, at least, probably won't return. O'Donnell, however, could return. There's a possibility I could've seen an article within the last few months that announced Shaun Sipos' return for the third season.

I also liked how most (if not all) the visuals and overall cinematography looked. Most of the locations had an alluring appeal, further highlighted and complimented by the lighting at times. Everything about the visuals possessed a strong, aesthetically pleasing essence that radiated through the screen. Nothing concerning those elements stood out that much in the premiere, besides that one shot of the ATM with the reflection of the woman with Reacher behind her. This episode had a change of pace, for the better, with its look.

Additionally, I can't ignore the main fight sequence close to the end - "main," as there was the immediate handling of Russo at the beginning (though it barely crossed the threshold of being a fight sequence) and the bar fight, which scratched the at-least-one-fight-sequence-per-episode itch until the proper one came along. Reacher and Dixon vs. Those three guys easily scratched the itch with more poised professionalism. There was a subtle, barely existent feeling that it was a little unnecessary in the sense of the way it played out, but I can't complain about getting action/action sequences, particularly when they include Reacher taking out the trash figuratively, as one would do so in the literal sense of the phrase.

I imagine a few others had more concerns with a different aspect of it: the duration and the slight depiction of "weakness" from Reacher, contrary to their possible belief that he should've blitzed right through them and anyone - but perhaps more so regarding future fight sequences rather than this one, based on a thing or two I vaguely recall seeing mentioned by some people. Either way, I believe such sentiments are highly irrelevant, and the reason is simple: we know Reacher will always come out on top, so we should get on board with slightly "prolonged" fights for the mere entertainment benefit they have if nothing else.

Now, let's talk about the biggest piece of information we've received thus far: New Age Technologies, an aerospace company. My developing theory, stemming from that, in addition to other information so far, specifically the scene with Adrian and the other guy in Colorado, is that it could be unofficially selling stuff to non-American, non-military/governmental entities to use overseas.

Or they ARE selling plenty to the American government, but someone involved on their end, somewhere amongst the chain of command of those possible transactions, is siphoning little amounts here and there for personal profit: aka that guy in the scene with Adrian, who gave off government official vibes, and he's the one "selling" or rather helping Adrian steal shipments, followed by him selling it to the specific individuals, entities, or highest bidder; Adrian could be the final person at the end of the transaction process - everyone gets paid handsomely, including Robert Patrick's character who is almost certainly in on it somehow. But his involvement (and Franz, Sanchez, Orozco, and probably Swan) is harder to construct a theory for due to the understandably limited information we've been given so far. He could potentially be at the helm of the company, have some form of leadership there, or he's on the military side of things.

I might as well end this review by adding a layer to my developing theory with a shot-in-the-dark addition. What if the flashback with Reacher and Dixon holds important significance beyond purposes related to their dynamic and budding relationship in the present time? The case she brought to him caught my attention. Someone was using the appearance of excess aviation fuel as a means to transport something secret and likely illicit. What are the odds of that case being related to the present-day case?

That's where my mind is currently frolicking while awaiting something more concrete.

What Happens in Atlantic City
Prismark1030 December 2023
Well the flashbacks gave an important clue as to why the special investigations team from 110th are getting targeted.

That flight from Afghanistan carrying Humvees and an extra fuel load!

As for the rest Reacher, Neagley and David O'Donnell are joined by Karla Dixon, the numbers woman in their team.

They go to Atlantic City hoping to find Orozco only to find his office was thrashed as well. They do manage to get his girlfriend and find that Orozco and Sanchez didn hotel security. Maybe that was something they uncovered, a casino scam.

Reacher is an enjoyable romp. Lee Child's book are not high art. You are looking at a dumb action thriller with a side of humour. Karla tells the casino security guy give those concert tickets to the man in the black jacket behind me. So she noticed him but did not figure he had followed them from New York.

As for Reacher, it's kill them first and then remember he should had asked some questions first.

How is the writing this dumb?
senderseven23 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
How is the writing this dumb when it is based on a book? You will get better dialog from a CSI episode, everyone waiting for their turn to add their one-liner. Speaking of one-liners, details matter, don't mess with the power rangers... I mean special investigators. Repeating this till exhaustion does not translate from book to show and becomes annoying after two times.

This season is a prime example of how not to introduce a team. They have little to no backstory or distinct personality aside from the add-on label of 'numbers girl' and 'family guy'. Why do we not get to see their history as a team and what role the fulfilled during battles (aside from banter relevant to the case)? This would add so much depth to the characters.

Then the acting. I get that Reacher is supposed to be stoic and quite (not that he is this season), but every character interaction is a played out trope or stereotype. Nothing feels genuine for some reason. Like they are going through the motion, without risk or emotional investment.

This show, like S1, is going to do so well with American audiences it is insane. Especially younger, politically right leaning types that can project anything they want on this underwhelming blank canvas. In that sense it will serve some purpose I guess. To me it feels like an American parody.

Inauthentic boring filler to help waste your time.
aboethius15 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I have no clue what they are trying to do with this show anymore except to bore viewers for over 95% of the airtime. Be skeptical of these early ratings - it's either a scam or from people who have never watched good television. It would be more entertaining and less frustrating to just watch Reacher sleep for 30 minutes and beat people up for the rest of the show. Just about no one remains or is even acknowledged from the first season cast which kind of sucks. So far, I am seeing a complete nosedive in acting quality from this new cast. The utterly boring dialogue is not helping them either. The Atlantic City hotel scene and dialogue where they are drinking beers on the sofa like at some kind of dull dinner party is the worst television I have seen in many years. Maybe pay your writers better and you won't suffer so badly because of a writer's strike. I wonder if these were written by AI or inexperienced replacements? It is clear these writers have no clue how anything works in the real world. The "numbers' lady is absolutely unconvincing in her character - as if she made up her character in two seconds before filming. Even Reacher's story sounds off, as if the writer's are not fully capable of thinking anything out more than at an adolescent level. I mean does he work when he is wandering or does he just rely on savings? They have given no indication in any way that he picks up odd jobs while wondering. That's what real hobos do so maybe you should mention what kind of work he does when wondering. But if he is just digging into savings then that kind of undercuts the hobo image they want to sell us. It's not really roughing it if you can just buy whatever you need anytime you want. I mean one second they are trying to convince us that Reacher just gets by on strangers picking him up and feeding up, and the next second he is literally carrying 6 plates of food at a buffet. Lol...Good luck being a broke hobo and trying to maintain that physique and however many calories he needs to not lose weight. Pointless details you might think? Whatever. It is still frustrating when everyone is asking the wrong questions. They don't sound like ex-military at all. They sound like uppity normies too lame to believe someone could sleep outside in a hammock. In fact, they sound like the actors and not characters at all. Refuse to give me an upvote all you like, but you won't see any of these people anywhere else except maybe some other cancelled shows. The bad guys are mostly a joke so far too. I vaguely recall that in season one, Reacher took on like a whole town and criminal organization, and it wasn't all revealed too quickly leaving room for mystery and suspense. But in these first two episodes, we know right off the back who wants to kill Reacher, and his main goon looks like a weak amateur - but he hires two more weak looking amateurs. Reacher could take out all 3 with one hand. The main villain is just an old guy in a dark office on the phone. So no, we don't know exactly who he is, but so far he looks just like, well, a lone old guy in an office.. Woah...that's so scary. Yes, he also hired a skinning looking assassin though who has essentially been taking a vacation across the U. S. in his roundabout journey that is more info than we need. First he was in L. A., then Denver. I supposed in episode 3 he will be in Chicago. He likes giving superhero comics to kids though so maybe you think that is creepy. Nah...he looks normal and boring too. There is simply no authenticity to any of these characters, except maybe Reacher half the time. Such bad acting.

POOR , stopping here
interisah23 December 2023
Where I thought that the first episode might have been a mistake , I got to watch the second episode which is more boring and more pathetic than the first one .

Seriously guys what is this ? This script\story has been used in almost 100 films and shows where the hero is seeking to catch and punish the bad guys who committed crimes against his good friends particularly if this HERO is a former ARMY man and his muscles is coming out from his body .

He starting to gather a team and then let's go guys to catch the bad guys and kill them and suddenly one of them might be a traitor who plays for the other team .

POOR show and funny acting , if you have time to waste watch the show .
