Things look bleak
miles-3310814 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The episode starts with Darcy Garland maid receiving a phone call from Dr Ogden arranging a visit later in the day, and giving the maid time off. Later, a neighbour of Dr Garland sees Dr Ogden arriving at the residence. Soon after, police receive reports of a shooting. Dr Garland is found dead.

Dr Ogden told her colleagues she would be assessing a patient elsewhere, but in fact no such arrangements were ever made. When Dr Ogden produces an alternative alibi, concerning her helping a battered wife escape from her husband, the wife cannot be found at the house Dr Ogden claimed to have taken her to, and the battering husband never existed.

The dress that the neighbour saw Dr Ogden wearing is found in her garbage, covered in blood that proves to be human. The murder weapon is discovered, hidden in a tree on the route from Dr Garland's house to Dr Ogden's. It has been wiped clean, but Murdoch wonders if there are any finger marks on the bullet casings. He finds Dr Ogden's thumb print.

The case must now go to trial. What hope is there for Dr Ogden?

Can Murdoch do anything but dream that things may come out right?

This is a tense episode for fans. We all believe Dr Ogden can only be innocent, but there is so much pointing to her guilt.

The earlier reviewer pointed to a perceived plot hole, but there is no reason for anyone to explore that question without suspecting a plot so cunning that only a Moriarty would conceive of it. There is already so much evidence from so many reliable people who have nothing to gain by seeing Dr Ogden convicted. Everything is a potential plot hole, but not all are real.

Huge, annoying plot hole.

How can a patient of Dr. Ogden's be treated at the asylum without anyone else being aware of the existence of the woman? In court Dr. Ogden clearly states she was treating the patient as a resident of the asylum because she had become crazy with fear of being killed by her husband. And, when her husband appeared outside the asylum she took the lady to safety at her sisters house. Dr. Ogden is pronounced guilty because not one shred of evidence suggests this woman exists. I don't see how no one at the asylum knew of this patient. I could understand if no one could find the patient after the fact. However, the premise that there was no intake paperwork at the asylum, that a patient can receive food and shelter at the asylum for days without being seen or documented is beyond believability.

Hope she hangs

Warning: Spoilers
I have watched most of the series (up until season 15) and re-watching it I get more and more annoyed with Dr. Ogden. The woman does not know what she wants and messes up with everyone else.

She doesn't know what she wants to do - she is the city's coroner, than a pediatrician, then a psychiatrist, then a coroner again, then a surgeon (and complaints that a woman is discriminated, but she can get the job she wants with no problem).

And her love life is a mess - she flirts with Murdoch (knowing that he is a catholic), gets involved with him, confesses an abortion, breaks up with him, gets involved with Darcy, rejects Murdoch (when he wants to propose to her -which she knows), gets married to Darcy, rejects Darcy because she realize she loves Murdoch (she never takes Darcy's name - Garland), wants a divorce - best option is an annulment to which Darcy agrees - but she can't lie in court that the marriage was never consummated. So the next option is to be found an adulterous wife - Murdoch agrees to be the correspondent and face the coming scandal (which would probably ruin his career, on top of being a catholic) which she finds ok.

When Darcy is found dead she doesn't even find the decency to wear black - she does so only after Giles points this out.

She is so pretentious and arrogant that I wouldn't mind if she hangs.
