A Brutal but Human Episode to Say the Least
Hitchcoc26 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This is the culminating episode. Ray is the focus here. Linden spends the entire story with Ray who really is a sociopath. Even if he didn't kill his wife (which we are not absolutely sure of), he has done heinous things to other people. We see the ups and downs of his last hours. Whatever we think of capital punishment, it's obvious that there is little good in it. Linden is unsure of the case that led to his execution, and she gives her soul to a man for a day. This is so real, so provocative, probably the most graphics scene of an execution ever filmed. The thing is full of cruelty as the man in charge of the unit is just despicable. He has no heart at all. But we get to see him for the coward he is at the very end as the two men stare at each other on the scaffold. Powerful stuff, to say the least.

This show at its best

One of the most prolific episodes in the haunting serious. Hands down some if the best acting, pacing, positioning, set design/direction, arghh screw it I'll keep it simple by saying "THIS IS ONE OF the best overall television episodes ever made!" The emotional contrast between all if the characters, the physical acting, overall preparation by the cast and crew, and the creative empathy etc.. Was everything the mediums of film and television are meant to expose and explore. The American version of this show has finally found its identity and perhaps surpassed the original in creating a world that we want to view but witless refuse to ever play a part in.

Impressive

The overall takeaway from this episode is that Peter Sarsgaard is a freaking amazing actor. He carries nearly the entire episode himself (rest of the cast is great but, damn) and does it perfectly.

Simply magnificent.

I don't think I've ever written a review for an episode of a TV show until this. I could not help dropping a few lines for this tremendous episode. Peter Sarsgaard's performance is truely amazing. Although this is not the finale, this felt more like the culmination of the season.

Excellent episode !

I've never submitted a review on here before but just had to for this jaw dropping episode. My heart was pounding along with Ray's . Peter Skaarsgard was phenomenal in this episode . He truly showed every emotion you'd imagine there to be plus others that you wouldn't have thought of . One of the best if not THE best episode of a show like this I've ever seen. Pure class. I'm sure this must have brought about some debate regarding capitol punishment with those who've watched it. Every actor played their role exceptionally and I hope the writers received rave reviews from their critics. Well done to all involved.

MASTERCLASS! TV AT ITS FINEST

What an absolutely harrowing haunting emotional freaking ride this journey has been. This episode shows the masterclass of filmmaking/tv making. This whole series requires actors and actresses at the top of the game. This episode is owed Emmy's. Peter Skarsgard IS AT HIS ABSOLUTE FREAKING BEST!l HES EVER BEEN. One of the best performances I've seen in a long time from feature films to tv series. Joel kinneman is absolutely amazing too I mean the whole freaking cast is amazing as hell. Impossible to even eat during this episode. My house could being broken into during this episode and I'd tell them to just shut the hell up and sit down and watch and then continue on. MASTERCLASS.

Watch it for Peter Sarsgaard, the man deserves more accolades!

Peter Sarsgaard outshines every other actor in this season! Absolutely loved his portrayal of a man sentenced to death, the fear broiling of the impending death yet the man wants to put up a brave face. The episode itself had a couple weak story points and dialogues, but directed well with the right pauses to create tension and keep the viewer glued even as it is paced as a slow burner. Easily the best so far.

I was really curious to see what direction the writers would take. It wasn't like the usual adrenaline rush with quick moves in other shows at a climax scene, but stealthily inched forward while keeping emotions running high.
