WrestleMania 29 Thoughts
WrestleMania 29 was the 29th annual WrestleMania taking place on April 7, 2013 at the Medlife Station in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Attendance at the time was the 2nd Attendance in WrestleMania history behind WrestleMania III with 80,676 fans (at least, according to Vince). The show featured 3 key match ups building up to it. The Rock defended the WWE Championship against John Cena in a rematch from last year's "Once-in-a-lifetime". Unfortunately Rock was set to appear and wrestle a few more times in the future but an injury in the middle of the match made this his last WrestleMania match (not counting a squash years later). CM Punk, who was also in his last WrestleMania, had a personal feud with Undertaker that started with Punk mocking the death of his Undertaker's storyline father, Paul Bearer and stealing his urn of ashes. Sick and disgusting storyline at the time to be honest. Triple H put his career on the line against Brock Lesnar in a No Holds Barred match after attempting to get a revenge for what Lesnar did to his father-in-law and breaking his Arm in their match at SummerSlam months earlier.
The Good - Undertaker vs. CM Punk turned out to be the best match of the night. Honestly, this was probably Undertaker's last great match at WrestleMania. Both were really working well together and the crowd really was pumped up. Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H turned out to be pretty good too. Not as good as the one they had at SummerSlam but it was still a fun match. I also enjoyed the opening 6 man tag team match and the World Heavyweight Championship match too as they turned out better than expected.
The Meh - Fandango vs. Chris Jericho was a good match but I feel Jericho should have been placed in something better. While Brock vs. HHH was good, it did dragged on a bit too slow. It also was not a bright idea for the last 3 matche to take place back-to-back.
The Bad - Main Event was a huge disappointment. I do remember questioning why we didn't have a Triple Threat Match with CM Punk involved due to Punk slightly having a minor role in the WWE Championship for 2 weeks after failing to regain it from the Rock in a rematch after No Way Out. John Cena vs. The Rock felt like a copy of the previous year and was repetitive with the crowd showing no interest. It was obvious WWE wanted Cena to just get a win over him. Ryback vs. Mark Henry was also a snoozed fest and the worst match of the night.
Overall - Not as good as last year but it wasn't a failure. If the main event wasn't a Lackluster, The Show would have probably been better as a whole. Good undercard and a terrific Undertaker vs. CM Punk match is definitely a worth re-watching of this event.
