NCIS agents were made to look foolish
CrimeDrama15 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
There is no way Dearing would not see through the NCIS planned trap by taking Jonathan Cole out of prison and trying to use him to lure Dearing in. Look how long it took NCIS to figure out Dearing's motive. He has been very smart so far so he easily would know Cole should still be in prison. Crime drama writers tend to forget that plot twists must make sense to the viewers.

This season-ending cliffhanger was ridiculous. Gibbs finally deduces where Dearing's bomb is and orders an immediate evacuation but McGee, Abby, and others do not evacuate. After Cole assumes responsibility for disarming the bomb (moving the vehicle wasn't an option for Gibbs?) so Gibbs leaves him to it and runs back inside? Why? How could he know Abby is still in her lab? Gibbs has no idea that Dearing triggered the bomb but yet runs at Abby to protect her just as she is just leaving her office with her personal belongings. Why the hell is she still in her lab anyway? If any of them wanted to see Jimmy again (only Ducky attended the destination wedding) they have no choice - they must evacuate. Gibbs and McGee are common sense guys but they are made to look foolish when the bomb explodes. I don't buy any of it. No one had any reason to stay in the building. Did any of the writers express concerns over believability? I am convinced these writers don't really understand or care that crime dramas must be believable to the viewer. It's like they are trying to hit a home run with drama/conflict but it is not believable most of the time.

Till plot holes do us apart Warning: Spoilers
Throughout the ninth season of the series, the stories became weaker and weaker. It seems as if this show is nearing the end of its life. While the attempt of hiring new, freelance writers did pay off, at some point, it is easy to notice for an NCIS veteran that things aren't quite all the same.

The show did lost some of its "exotic" feelings. Mike Franks, the awesome old prank is now gone. No more plots with him around. Although he didn't get much screen time, at least he was a familiar yet refreshing face in his episodes.

All the attention seems to have shifted towards Tony, Gibbs and to some extend, Ziva. McGee and Abby have become more of side characters than anything else. We also get some Vance episodes from time to time, only when the writers seem unable to find anything more about Tony and Gibbs to tell us.

And then there is this Jamie Lee Curtis's character, Samantha Ryan. She was probably inserted in the plot line just to refresh things, since all the side characters are now dead. Although she was nice in the first 2-3 episodes, by the end of the season, she is getting annoying, and pretty much worthless. If she cares so much about Gibbs, why is she always in the way of the investigation? She also seems to be a weak link in the entire game. I am pretty convinced the writers do have a plan for this character, but so far, she turned out to be nothing more than an annoyance.

Now, with all this set in motion, we get 3 episodes to set up this finale. So what do we face this time?

OK, well, there is this fanatic piece of work, patriotic guy, who seems determined to blow up his own army. OK...that's...disturbing to say the least. Apparently, this guy lost his son, who enrolled in the navy, to some accident. NCIS apparently also refused to perform any investigation in his case, therefore the mad daddy goes on and blows ships and other stuff, because apparently he is doing "us all a good".

Don't get me wrong, I kinda like this guy, even though he is getting a bit ridiculous. He always seems one step ahead of NCIS, sometimes even two, he also posses the ability to travel distances very, very fast. On top of that, he somehow manages to figure out what exactly NCIS will do next, while still being completely untraceable. Despite these ridiculous features he was given by the writer, which almost makes him seem as if taken from a cartoon, he is, actually, a threat to the team. We haven't seen a real threat for like...what, two years now?

And as much of a threat he is, he becomes an even bigger one due to plot wholes. Why on earth would Vance leave without his escort, knowing there is a terrorist likely to target him? Why no one search his car after he was found? How did the "bomb" know when someone opened the bag?

Leave all this aside, here comes the biggest plot whole of em all: THE BOMB. Assuming, of course, that explosives could have gotten inside the base undetected, which i honestly doubt they would, there wasn't nearly enough explosive in there to cause THAT level of devastation. Unless we talk about some REALLY nasty explosives here, there is no way on earth that the blast wave would pose such a threat to the 4th floor, were all the main cast were located at that time.

On top of that, the windows on the 4th floor shattered as if the explosion occurred right outside the window, at the same level.

Why did Tony and Ziva get the elevator during an evacuation? Did they miss their respective elementary school? in the 1st grade you're told never to use elevators during an evacuation. Why McGee decided it is a good idea to backup his computer at this exact moment?

But the real cliffhanger is what happens to Ducky...

So, an above average episode, but not nearly as good as other finales. Let's hope season 10 brings in some more focus on the TEAM and not on GTZ. And let's hope they pay more attention to obvious details. (gibbs-tony-ziva)

Not really a review.....
....but a strong agreement with mihaicosmin's review than just clicking on the 'yes' button. And to just add that there was way too much emphasis on Jimmy's wedding. It's supposed to be a crime drama, not a soap opera.
