Premature Election

After a disappointing start "Avenue 5" has, for me, now hit three episodes in a row that I feel were solidly good stuff.

With the cat out of the bag, the passenger's revolt and decide that a new, elected, leader should be in charge of the decision making. With various, wildly unsuitable, candidates declaring, Captain Clark (Hugh Laurie) tries desperately to find a suitable, viable option. Back on Earth, the announcement about the lithium shortages causes the Office of the Other President to make a decision on how to resolve the ongoing problem.

Again, just funny and made sense, doesn't feel like it should be (pardon the pun) rocket science. The big ensemble cast is largely all in the same room, trying to make their arguments for who should be in charge and its funny stuff. It's also the first time in a while that the plot has allowed for some genuine satire, with some the politics of presentable idiocy being preferred to awkward competence. Justin Edwards is a great addition to the cast and Alex Lanipekun appears to be contributing more that it initially looked like.

I still don't feel like any of the plot back on earth is adding much, although they've obviously added a big plot point for the series at the end there. The show could probably function pretty well without a few of the established characters now too.

Like the first season, I feel that, after a shaky start the show has settled down again into a pattern of decent efforts. I hope that this standard can be maintained for the rest.
