Silent Night Movie Review(Photo Credit –IMDb)
What’s Good: It is fantastic to see John Woo back doing films in the West. His experience in making action scenes still shows under all the gimmicks.
What’s Bad: The movie relies too much on a strange narrative gimmick that only hinders its enjoyment and makes the entire experience quite strange and boring.
Loo Break: Sadly, there are several. The movie’s gimmick makes certain scenes feel completely unnecessary.
Watch or Not?: There are better John Woo films out there to watch. Sadly, Silent Night doesn’t make the cut as an easy recommendation.

Cormac McCarthy, a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist who endured decades of obscurity and poverty before film versions of “All the Pretty Horses,” “No Country for Old Men” and “The Road” brought him a wide readership and financial security, died Tuesday in Santa Fe, N.M. His publisher, Penguin Random House, said his son John McCarthy announced his death from natural causes. He was 89.
Extremely reclusive, McCarthy shunned publicity so effectively that one critic observed, “He wasn’t even famous for it.” But Joel and Ethan Coen’s 2008 adaptation of 2005 novel “No Country for Old Men” put him momentarily in the limelight; the crime thriller, which starred Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin, won Oscars for best picture, director, adapted screenplay and supporting actor.
While McCarthy’s first novel, “The Orchard Keeper,” was published in 1965, commercial success eluded him until his 1992 National Book Award-winning “All the Pretty Horses” and the...

Cormac McCarthy, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author whose searing novel No Country for Old Men served as the foundation for the Coen brothers’ 2007 film that earned Oscars for best picture, supporting actor, directing and adapted screenplay, has died. He was 89.
McCarthy died Tuesday of natural causes at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, his publisher, Knopf, announced.
Known for his crisp prose, foreboding view of humanity, uncompromising approach to death and violence — and rebellion against quote marks and semicolons — McCarthy was celebrated as one of the leading American authors of his time.
“He is the great pessimist of American literature, using his dervish sentences to illuminate a world in which almost everything (including punctuation) has already come to dust,” Tim Adams wrote in a 2009 profile for The Guardian. “He once argued that he could see no point at all in literature that did not dwell on death. His touchstones are...

Taylor Sheridan is a filmmaker and writer who has put the American frontier at the center of nearly all his stories. One of the most prominent examples is "Yellowstone," a neo-western TV series that centers on the inter-personal relationships of ranchers and those surrounding the borders of their land. The show's first season received a mixed reception, with subsequent seasons receiving a much more positive reception.
The majority of "Yellowstone" was written by Sheridan, with the filmmaker occasionally directing an episode or two throughout the show's five-season run. However, Taylor Sheridan's love for the Western didn't start with "Yellowstone." He's dabbled in the genre with films like "Hell or High Water" telling stories of modern-day outlaws. Sheridan's passion for giving the Western genre a modernized spin wasn't from out of nowhere. Instead, Sheridan's movie and television work stemmed from the films and literature that influenced him in his early adulthood.

Something must have happened to John Woo in the last decade or so. It’s been well over a decade since his last full-blown, modern-day action film, having made the historical epics Red Cliff and The Crossing after leaving Hollywood, and Manhunt — his return to the genre that launched his career — feels like a new kind of John Woo. Now in his 70s, Woo has become fully self-aware, and in doing so seems to have challenged himself to create the most John Woo movie ever made. With Manhunt, he has indeed made the most John Woo movie possible, while also making a film that could just be described as “the most.” It’s a deliriously entertaining thrill ride from start to end, and sure to go down as one of the most enjoyable films of 2017.

It’s been 25 years since John Woo has directed one of his patented Hong Kong action flicks, but this year the so-called maestro is back with a new movie called Manhunt. The first action-packed trailer for John Woo's new film Manhunt has been released and it looks like it's as John Woo as a John Woo action film can get. We haven't really seen a John Woo film in the states for awhile. That's because he's been keeping himself busy making big Chinese epics like Red Cliff and The Crossing. The last American movie that he made was Paycheck back in 2003.
Manhunt is also a Chinese film, but maybe we'll get to see it released in the states. The movie is a remake of the 1976 Japanese thriller Kimi yo Fundo no Kawa o Watare. The story follows a man who is framed for robbery and rape and he set out on a mission to clear his name.
The trailer itself is a little rough around the edges, but it's cool to see Woo making good old fashioned action movies again!

The 74th Venice International Film Festival (August 30 – September 9) has just announced the world premiere of John Woo’s action thriller Manhunt as part of its Out of Competition roster. The film is hotly anticipated as it marks the return of the Hong Kong director to the police thriller genre 25 years after his classic Hard Boiled, starring Chow Yun-fat, Tony Leung and Anthony Wong.
Set in Japan, Manhunt is the story of a Chinese man wrongly convicted for rape and multiple murders. He becomes the target of a manhunt by the local Japanese police, while he sets out himself to find the real killers.
The film has Chinese star Zhang Hanyu (The Great Wall, Operation Mekong) and Japanese actor-musician Masaharu Fukuyama (Suspect X, Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends) in the lead roles. The predominantly Japanese supporting cast includes Yasuaki Kurata, Jun Kunimura, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Nanami Sakuraba, Naoto Takenaka and Tao Okamoto.

ABC has picked up four new series from its sister ABC Studios, including a new drama from Shonda Rhimes’ company, a drama about saving the world (starring Jason Ritter), a series about refugees… from America, and comedy that sounds like it might take a few cues from the recently installed White House inhabitant.
In “The Mayor,” Brandon Micheal Hall plays an aspiring young rapper, Courtney Rose, who decides – as a publicity stunt – to run for mayor. He did it solely to generate buzz and become rich and famous. Instead, he is actually elected mayor, an outcome he never predicted. Now he must lean on his mother (Yvette Nicole Brown) and friends, including Valentina (Lea Michele) to become the mayor he didn’t think he wanted to be.
Sound a bit Trumpy?

A cloying Chinese rom-com so full of clichés that it instantly qualifies for a Hollywood remake, Derek Hui’s directorial debut concerns an uptight businessman and free-spirited chef who meet cute, instantly detest each other and, naturally, fall in love. That they bond over a shared love of fine food marks the only distinguishing element of This Is Not What I Expected, whose title belies its overly familiar content. Still, the film has its charms, mostly found in the culinary offerings so gorgeously shot they qualify as food porn.

In a recent interview, Chinese actress Zhang Zi Yi, currently back in the limelight with the release of her new martial arts epic, The Grandmaster, has confirmed that cameras are finally ready to start rolling on John Woo's much-delayed period romance Love And Let Love. The film, a romantic epic set against the backdrop of the Sino-Japanese War, has been hit by a series of almost farcical obstacles, and cancelled on more than one occasion. A dispute over rights to the script, originally titled 1949, saw the project put on hold indefinitely way back in 2009. The film then came back on track in late 2011, with Korean acress Song Hye-kyo (pictured above) as the lead, and Zhang and Taiwanese actor Chang Chen named in supporting roles....

Image Comics’ Undying Love is a tale free of the sappy undertones, but loaded with the grit and grime that the undying would undoubtedly accumulate over the centuries.
