Clever,funny dark comedy

Right from the opening Hitchcock-style credit sequence and the sardonic film noir voice-over from Huey Morgan we knew we were in for something special with Under a Vest – the new short from the obviously talented Kal Bonner.

The film opens on a figure at a dressing table. There is a noise downstairs. The protagonist goes to investigate. What will they find? what will be revealed? As the tension ramped up the audience at the London Short Film Festival giggled nervously, and the denouement delivered a great moment and a big laugh. A beautifully shot black comedy. Seek it out.

atmospheric blend of satire and suspense

Under a Vest is an atmospheric, tongue-in-cheek tribute to Hitchcock, combining humour and suspense.

Use of light and shade serves to highlight the contrast between the public and private images of those in high places, with accompanying music underpinning the changing moods.

Monochrome gives way to a burst of golden light, Wizard of Oz style, at the moment when the main protagonist is caught off guard and his colourful secret life is revealed in the climactic scene.

This is a fine example of what can be achieved on a limited budget in a short film where every shot counts - a triumph of quality over quantity.

Good things come in small packages.

I saw this at the London Short Film Festival and although there were some other good films in there, this one really stood out from the crowd.I'm a Noir fan anyway,so it was great to see the nod given to this genre.Even better were the tongue-in-cheek Hitchcock references, which I'm sure the great man himself would have enjoyed. If that's not praise in itself, I don't know what is.Very clever that suspense and humour are achieved in such a small time frame, and the quality is excellent considering it was in the low budget section.I also liked the overall dig at the establishment, which is so apt in our current times.I surprised myself when it got to the end and I was left thinking that I actually wanted to sit there and watch more of it.I actually wanted to know what happened to the main character and that doesn't happen often, particularly with short films and trust me,I've seen hundreds. If you get the chance to see this film then do it.You won't be disappointed.

Under A Vest

Under A Vest - I found this a very atmospheric clip, with a Hitchcock feel.Hardly a minute long and you have been able to capture my imagination and from what I've seen generate a lot of traffic and interest, which should be testament to you as a film-maker. It's quite possibly one of the best little trailers I've seen for a long time and hope this goes on to screenings on the big screen, I for one will be keeping a eye out for forthcoming screenings.

where & when can I see more? love the Noire feel and the legend Mr Huey Morgan with the opening line sounds great.

Is this a pilot for a feature film?
