some awkwardness, but some srs improvements + creepy!
spasticfreakshow23 September 2022
There is unavoidable awkwardness when you drastically shake up the main characters from season to season, more than necessary, it feels, with some surprising absences that feel unexplained and unnatural. It detracts from the otherwise pleasant arrival of pretty Beau. We'll see how the new formula pans out. The long format of a very dragged out investigation, like The Killing, was too heavy, too slow, but it was hard to imagine a scarier villain than old Ronald. Well, they found one. I am full on creeped out, beyond what I thought possible with a mainstream television show. And add a little episodic police work to the mix, you have a better show, potentially. This season could be the best yet!

Episode 301

Warning: Spoilers
Wish they gave us a full reboot from last season, but I do understand why they felt the need to carry over a couple characters from last time.

Not sure if Reba can pull off the big baddie role for this show, but it is certainly an interesting choice to tackle the position. Certainly not someone you would expect so maybe that will make for a fun viewing experience.

Big Sky is not a remarkable show, but it is easy and fun viewing week to week. I am already invested enough in seeing just how these stories play out so that means job well done for the first episode of the new year for Big Sky. Solid start.

This ain't your daddy's Montana

What are the odds of the two best crime fighters, in a town of indeterminate population, be drop dead gorgeous and are perpetually looking for love. What are the odds that said town is home to some serious crime? Not very good I'm afraid.

Big Sky lingers between a cute buddy cop show that doesn't take itself too seriously and a show that constantly lets the viewers know " yeah these chicks are hot alright but be aware they'll kick your ass at the drop of a hat." The show opened with both lead actors working at the detective agency along with heartthrob Ryan Philippi. In a first (as far as I know) for network tv, the main starring lead gets shot dead in the first episode. No more Ryan. Business could be slow for a detective agency the size of Mayberry so one of the babes joins the local sheriffs office. You could say joined, you could also say moved in, and told the sheriff what she would be working on and to not get in the way. She would be number 1 on the list of McDonalds all American potential deputies.

Montana is known as the Big Sky State.

Why is it filmed in N. Mexico?

Promising season opener
AlinaStarr22 September 2022
In my humble opinion, the first episode was really solid as an intro to very promising new season of the show. Right in the beginning of the episode we got explanations as to what happened to Mark and Jerrie, and we got to see our beloved gang (Cassie, Jenny and Denise) back together.

As the episode progressed new dynamics were introduced via additions of the new characters. I can't help but being charmed and moved by the new sheriff Beau (need to know his backstory so bad), and being intrigued by Sunny and her glamping business and sketchy family (the end of the episode was really something).

Do You Love an Apple left me feeling curious as where the story will go from here on, because knowing Big Sky... there will be some major plot twists ahead.

Campy Delight

I watched the first season of Big Sky and like many other viewers, lapsed as the story seemed to falter.

So I was excited to see the series pull a soft reboot with season three, especially when I saw the additions of Jensen Ackles, then Reba McEntire.

Both are solid personality actors with plenty of well-worn, practiced tools in their tool kit to pull out as demanded. Both, too, will act as "stunt casting" since they have fans attached and ready to watch no matter the project. Reba is internationally known and I'm only assuming they backed the Brinks truck up to her door to get her this year.

Meanwhile, does infusing their stock and trade into the show help bring life back to it? Yes.

The writers are shifting into what seems to be a more procedural formula along with an extended seasonal arc. The new characters are a shot in the arm for this.

There are bumps to iron out in the transition, of course: while some cast (Dedee Pfeiffer, Kylie Bunbury) are a lot of fun to watch as they develop the new relationships, others (Katheryn Winnick) seem to be taking a little longer to find the groove.

As to writing, I have no hold back to praise in the transition. The jokes landed, the Easter eggs were funny, the characters grew. We even got lines embedded to bring us up to speed on past seasons' stories (Lindor and Jerri)

Production, directing, editing were never at fault in Big Sky. And they continue to excel.

So now it's just to keep doing so as we hit the "deadly trails"

The big mystery is why I am still watching this.
fielding-3825626 October 2022
Since when do people from Montana have a southern accent? WTF?! Reba just comes off as annoying, and well, yeah, if that's the point, then OK, but really?! Maybe, like a lot of C. J. Box's characters, the family is a transplant, but that is unstated here. Jenny still gets the dumbest lines (choke! Choke! I'm gagging and laughing at the same time.) They ditched two or more of the most interesting characters from the last season and the replacements are a joke. The other thing is that the show has taken a decidedly episodic approach, meaning they resolve one mystery within each episode, leaving the story thread that somehow survives, rather weak. And one other thing: How long is a camping trip in Montana? When multiple people either disappear or show up dead, isn't it time to pull up stakes and get the hell out of Dodge? Or... er... Helena?

Disappointing
RanknVile-6401330 September 2022
The first two seasons of this show were very good. Eerie stories with quirky characters, actors who are good enough to deliver lines effectively and writing that developed the story and characters in an interesting manner. Now with the third season comes an overripe, sometimes overpowering, injection of Country Western/Texas/Oklahoma (similar to 1883) that attempts to replace weirdos and sickos with smarmy, down-home, drawling characters who seem out of place-and played by actors who don't seem able to deliver their lines as well as some of the others. I would like to see Tubb, Jerry and the marshal return. I would love to see Cassie return to her old hairstyle (much sexier).
