Put down that notebook, grab your tap-dancing shoes, and saddle up because we're about to break down why one of Hollywood's most prominent leading men is more than Kenough.
In his thirty years as an actor, Ryan Gosling has amassed a total of 107 award nominations and 40 wins. No small feat, considering he's been known to take multiple years-long breaks in his line of work.
Having cemented a career with roles ranging from comedy to thriller to action, Gosling is not one to limit himself. As Roger Ebert said, Ryan "proves he's one of the finest actors in contemporary movies."
Starting at a young age, Gosling managed to sidestep the drama that has plagued many notable child stars in Hollywood's history.
The actor likely saw the downfall of fellow industry peers and prioritized his mental health to avoid such pitfalls.
Whatever the case, Ryan has also made a name for himself...

Even though neither 1982's Blade Runner nor 2017's Blade Runner 2049 moved the needle much in terms of box office, both are respected cult classics (especially the original). And the world originally woven by Ridley Scott from the story by Phillip K. Dick is one that studios keep looking to re-visit. The latest incarnation, live-action Prime Video series Blade Runner 2099 is gearing up to shoot this year and has cast Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh in a lead role.
With Scott on board as an executive producer and actual show-running duties falling to Silka Luisa, the show brings the story (as the title suggests) forward to 2099.
Prime Video has not officially announced any story details for the show, though scooper Daniel Richtman dug this up online (prepare your grain of salt accordingly until this is confirmed): "In Los Angeles 2099, Cora lived her entire life on the run, a chameleon forced to adopt numerous identities.

The history of science fiction movies knows the breakthrough, made by Ridley Scott in 1982 with his Blade Runner, a dystopian tale about the revolt of the human-like replicants. This Harrison Ford-starring film influenced a great number of filmmakers, becoming one of the most cultish sci-fi features of all time.
Among the inspired ones was the Dune director Denis Villeneuve, who was so in love with Ridley Scott’s movie that even decided to make a sequel of it. Back in 2017, the world saw his Blade Runner 2049, where Ford reprised his iconic role alongside the new lead, Ryan Gosling, who starred as the young police officer, hunting rogue replicants.
Despite the fact that the movie was quite disappointing at the box office, grossing just $267.5 million worldwide against a production budget of $150–185 million, over the course of 7 years it has gained enormous hype and been recognized as a masterpiece.

In case you did not know, a Blade Runner series is in the works and has been shooting since April. Titled Blade Runner 2099, the series was revealed to be in the works in 2021, when Ridley Scott himself confirmed that a pilot and the series’ bible (a reference book for a series with relevant plot and character data) had been written. The series was officially announced in 2022 when the title was also revealed. Filming was set to begin in 2023 but was postponed to April 2024 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which paralyzed the entertainment industry for a longer period of time. Now, knowing that the series is currently being filmed, we can also confirm that we have some exciting casting updates.
The Blade Runner franchise wasn’t a franchise initially. It started off as a standalone movie directed by Scott, which starred Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer in the main roles.

Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099 sequel series, currently filming in Prague.
Already a veteran of action and science fiction genres, Oscar-winning actor Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s limited TV series, Blade Runner 2099.
Currently, that’s about all we know. Even Deadline, which first published the news, doesn’t know anything useful about the character Yeoh will play or what the series will be about. Sorry about that.
The series has been in development for quite a while, though, given that it’s a sequel to 2017’s Blade Runner 2049 (itself a sequel to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner), and there’s still nothing to watch roughly seven years on.
Last year’s Hollywood strikes haven’t helped matters. At one point, Amazon Studios was gearing up for production in Northern Ireland, with...

Michelle Yeoh is set to lead Prime Video's Blade Runner 2099, which will serve as a sequel to both Ridley Scott's original and Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049.
The first plot details for the show have also found their way online (via Daniel Richtman), and the brief synopsis outlines the basic premise of the sci-fi spin-off series.
As previously rumored, the show will be female-led, with Cora (possibly a former Blade Runner) joining forces with a Replicant named Olwen (Yeoh).
"In Los Angeles 2099, Cora lived her entire life on the run, a chameleon forced to adopt numerous identities. To secure a stable future for her brother, she assumes one final identity and is forced to partner with Olwen, a Replicant who’s confronting the end of her life. The two are pulled into a widening conspiracy that poses an existential threat to a city that’s fighting to be reborn.

Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh has been tapped to lead Prime Video’s upcoming Blade Runner 2049 sequel series, our sister site Variety reports, marking the first piece of casting news about the follow-up since it was first confirmed more than a year ago.
The sci-fi franchise, which began with 1982’s Ridley Scott-directed Blade Runner, is set in a dystopian Los Angeles, where artificial humans (aka “replicants”) are built to work for a major corporation in space. But where there is oppression, there will always be advanced replicants willing to fight their way to freedom.

One of the biggest queens in all sci-fi is returning to the genre she helped legitimize. As much as fans (rightfully) heap praise on icons such as Sigourney Weaver, Carrie Fisher, and Linda Hamilton, may we never sleep on what Michelle Yeoh has done for science-fiction storytelling over the years. She certainly made her mark in Danny Boyle's "Sunshine," while going above and beyond in recent efforts like "Star Trek: Discovery," "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings," and, of course, "Everything Everywhere All At Once."
Now, she's getting ready to do her thing all over again in "Blade Runner 2099," a sequel series long in the works that finally seems to be inching closer to reality. The buzzy casting news comes courtesy of Variety, which reports that the "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" star has been cast in the Prime Video show that's meant as a follow up...

Monday Am: Universal’s The Fall Guy has tumbled to $27.7M, this after a lower-than-expected Sunday of $6.9M, -33% from Saturday. Global cume is at $64.4M, a $1M off. Some are worried as to what this lower than expected result means for star power, specifically for Gosling coming off Barbie. The 3x Oscar nominated actor did everything to promote Fall Guy, down to dressing up as Beavis at the Hollywood premiere of the film. Look, as we mentioned, Fall Guy is third highest opening of his career stateside, Barbie being an outlier. Moviegoers in a streaming age are far too sophisticated and deliberate before they leave the house and an original Hollywood stunt-set action film wasn’t worth their time. Perhaps Gosling as a different kind of astronaut than he was in First Man is worth the time in Amazon MGM Studios’ Project Hail Mary. In the end, as of late,...

After the humongous hit and accolades he received from Barbie last year, Ryan Gosling is back on the big screen with The Fall Guy. The film interestingly pairs him with Oppenheimer star Emily Blunt whose film was part of the Barbenheimer hype train last year. Their hilarious banter about the phenomenon and their films attracted fans to see their chemistry in The Fall Guy.

Ryan Gosling mesmerized everyone at the the prestigious 96th Academy Awards with his iconic performance of I’m Just Ken, a song from Greta Gerwig’s 2023 film, Barbie. The performance was spellbinding as it left everyone at the ceremony grooving to the mellifluous voice of the Blue Valentine actor. Safe to say, that the actor had stole the show on the Oscars stage by being Ken.

Both hit three-week tracking Thursday, with the Warner Bros/Village Roadshow Mad Max prequel eyeing a $40M-$50M domestic opening over the Friday-Monday span of May 24-27 with Sony/Alcon Entertainment’s Garfield at $35M.
Earlier this week, some box office prognosticators believed it would be a closer race between the two at $30M+ apiece over four days, with the orange cat voiced by Chris Pratt having the edge. But George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Prequel, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, has the firepower of Imax and PLFs and a Cannes Film Festival world premiere as a global loudspeaker.

Ryan Gosling is living his best life these days. Or certainly his funniest. After earning an Academy Award nomination purely based on his ability to persuasively turn “Kenergy” into a noun in last summer’s Barbie, he brought that pure, uncut Ken stuff to the Oscar stage. No, not by winning the prize, but by taking home the hearts and minds of the internet with an epic performance of “I’m Just Ken.”
In hindsight, the spectacle of it all might be viewed as a turning point in his career as audiences embrace the guy who seemed so stoic and tortured in the 2010s—with his understated leading roles in Drive, Blade Runner 2049, Blue Valentine, and First Man—as actually a great comedy talent. His next studio vehicle, The Fall Guy, is in theaters now, and we can vouch for it being a breezy, lighthearted entertainment given life by...

The 16 Best Ryan Gosling Movies, from ‘The Fall Guy’ and ‘Drive’ to ‘Barbie’ and ‘Blade Runner 2049’
[Editor’s note: this list was originally published in July 2023, and has since been updated.]
Ryan Gosling has that Ken-ergy. He’s Ken out of Ken. He’s Kendlessly Kentertaining. He’s the Kend all, be all. He’s the Kenvy of other actors. He’s impossible to not Kenjoy. He’s more, much more, than Kenough.
Gosling has had a long, fruitful career, but it’s safe to say that he’s never committed to a role as hard as he’s committed to the bit that was the “Barbie” press tour. Every interview and soundbite the Canadian actor gave in the publicity run for Greta Gerwig’s take on the iconic Mattel toy line has launched meme after meme, as he’s spoken about the importance of telling the tragic story of Barbie’s beau Ken. It’s a commitment that’s only seconded by his performance in the film itself, where he goes for broke with a hilarious, oblivious, and often sweet...

As a film star, Ryan Gosling is the recipient of multiple titles, such as Gangster Squad and Drive. Even so, the actor, 43, has not yet made an appearance in the superhero genre, despite having received a few role offers from Marvel and DC Studios.
Have you ever been astounded by the fortunate decisions that Hollywood’s best actors make to shape their careers? Consider the Barbie star, a strategic mastermind, when it comes to career-defining decisions. The actor made an especially wise decision when he graciously stepped aside from donning the character of Green Lantern in Martin Campbell’s 2011 flick.

Normally, the summer movie season would kick off with a Marvel superhero movie, but this May, we’re doing things a little differently. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
This year and for the first time since the pandemic, Marvel isn’t launching the month of May. Instead, Universal jumped on the date for its new action comedy “The Fall Guy,” loosely based on the popular ’80s series starring Lee Majors. Two of the Oscar-nominated stars from last year’s blockbuster “Barbenheimer” phenom unite for this new action rom-com from filmmaker David Leitch (“Bullet Train”). Those stars, of course, are Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, who were nominated for Greta Gerwig‘s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan‘s Best Picture-winning “Oppenheimer,” respectively, two of the biggest movies of 2023. “The Fall Guy” premiered at the SXSW Film and TV Festival and even played at the annual exhibitors’ convention, CinemaCon,...

Having directed the brilliant Arrival (2015), Blade Runner 2049 (2017) and the two Dune movies (2021 and 2024), Denis Villeneuve has already inscribed his name in cinematic history as the acclaimed sci-fi filmmaker.
Here are 7 movies, recommended by the director and available for watching on Prime Video, that guarantee a superior sci-fi experience.
1. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
It comes as no surprise that this iconic Old Hollywood masterpiece is in Villeneuve’s list. According to his own admission, Kubrick’s epic space opera was his first "cinematic shock" that became his most favorite movie, inspiring him for his own science fiction works.
2. Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
Steven Spielberg’s classic drama movie affected not only the 1980’s genre’s features, but also the Dune director’s cinema taste, entering him the world of the French New Wave by assembling Francois Truffaut in its cast, and, obviously, his love for sci-fi films.

Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" films are an embarrassment of riches. With a strong ensemble cast, gorgeous visuals, an arresting story, and production design to die for, the filmmaker's take on Frank Herbert's epic sci-fi saga is firing on all cylinders. The movies also have fantastic effects makeup; a talented team is responsible for turning Austin Butler into a scowling, pale villain, etching runes onto the faces of the Bene Gesserit, and making everyone generally look both hot and windswept.
Oscar-nominated makeup artist Donald Mowat is credited as head of the makeup department on both 2021's "Dune" and "Dune: Part Two," but in 2020, he told Inside The Film Room that he nearly didn't get to work on the movies after all. Mowat previously collaborated extensively with Daniel Craig, doing his makeup on films like "Cowboys & Aliens" and "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" before joining the Bond franchise for "Skyfall" and Spectre.

While Marvel only has one theatrical release this year with Deadpool and Wolverine, 2025 seems to be a packed year for the franchise. Apart from Captain America: Brave New World and The Fantastic Four, the MCU will also see Mahershala Ali’s Blade making it to the big screens in November 2025.
After multiple delays due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes and key personnel changes, Ali’s Blade is reportedly headed for filming in the summer. According to Jeff Sneider, the team behind the film has finally cracked a script that will satisfy fans of Blade and that they would be headed to film in New Mexico.

Over the past several days, a new viral story spread around social media when (thanks to a New York Post write-up), the juxtaposition of the terms “A.I.” and “girlfriend” became a chilling promise of things to come. That’s at least one way to interpret Late Checkout CEO Greg Isenberg’s prediction that the next growth industry for artificial intelligence is “dating.”
In a social media post on X, which is the platform formerly known as Twitter, Isenberg recounted how he met a 24-year-old “single guy” who told him he spends $10,000 a month on “AI girlfriends.” The anonymous man even described his A.I. “dating apps” as comfort at the end of the day.
“The market cap for Match Group is $9B,” Isenberg wrote. “Someone will build the AI-version of Match Group and make $1B+.” While Isenberg’s own personal feelings about that prospect remain ambiguous, the impact of...

There's nobody quite like Guy Ritchie. One of the notable directors who has repeatedly dipped toes in both extremes of the budgetary pool, his unmitigated success with early features like "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch" eventually gave way to blockbusters on the level of "Sherlock Holmes" and "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword" -- all bearing his unmistakable fingerprints as much as his various mid-budget efforts do, which recently span five total films in the last five years. Though perhaps not considered a household name among the most casual of moviegoers, chances are high that the hardworking Ritchie's brand of rapid-fire editing, roguish characters with snappy dialogue, and oh-so-English humor (humour?) are instantly recognizable on some level, at least.
Yet that's perhaps the same reason why "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," his newest World War II action/comedy loosely based on historical events, feels jarringly at odds...

Timothée Chalamet’s journey in Hollywood has been an inspiring one. From making his name as a young star in independent films to bagging huge mainstream projects like Dune and Wonka, the actor has proved that he has the personality and talent to juggle both worlds with aplomb.
Timothée Chalamet in Dune
With the recently released Dune 2, Chalamet has further showcased his growth as an actor through the evolution of his character, Paul Atreides. But the Oscar nominee’s casting was criticized when he was initially signed on for the role by Denis Villeneuve. The director, though, was steadfast in his reasoning behind the decision and elaborated on why he was insistent on only Chalamet playing the role.
The Dune Ensemble Was Created Around Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides
It is difficult to imagine anyone other than Timothée Chalamet portraying the central character Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune franchise.

These days, actress Robin Wright is likely best known for her six seasons as Claire Underwood on “House of Cards.” Her character’s trajectory on Netflix’s often-rancid take on underhanded politics saw her ending up becoming the 47th President of the United States after co-star Kevin Spacey was forced to leave the show due to allegations of sexual misconduct. Wright collected six Emmy nominations as Best Drama Actresss and two for being an executive producer on the show. Wright also earned directorial stripes while calling the shots behind the camera for 10 episodes as well.
That experience led her to make her directorial film debut with “Land,” in which she played Edee, a woman filled with suicidal thoughts after suffering a tragic personal loss. She decides to go off the grid while moving into a grungy cabin in amongst the scenic mountains of Wyoming. Her attempts to chop wood, hunt...

In 1979, Ridley Scott unleashed the science fiction classic "Alien" upon audiences and unwittingly kickstarted a lucrative franchise comprised of seven sequels and an assortment of books, comics, and video games. In August 2024, Fede Álvarez plans to release "Alien: Romulus," which will hopefully push the series in a creative new direction, delivering more Xenomorph horror action for audiences to enjoy.
The "Alien" franchise has amassed $1.6 billion at the global box office, despite more than a few bumps. Films such as David Fincher's "Alien 3" and Scott's own "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant" divided audiences with their strange methodology. In contrast, the "Alien vs Predator" films never amounted to more than cynical cash grabs. These sequels/prequels also retconned important lore or added new details to the Xenomorph that do not jibe with previously established material, leaving fans scrambling to make sense of the "Alien" timeline. Some of their theories are perfectly acceptable,...

One of the Nordic region’s biggest providers of premium series, Copenhagen-based REinvent International Sales, will make a splash at this week’s Canneseries festival and MipTV market.
For the second consecutive year, the sales, financing and packaging banner has two titles in competition: the Danish drama thriller “Dark Horse”, due to world premiere in the main competition, and the short form Swedish dramedy entry “Painkiller”, which initially bowed at the Göteborg Film Festival.
“Last year we had the Norwegian political drama “Power Play” which won best series, and the Swedish romantic dramedy “Out of Touch” in the short form section. Canneseries is a great platform to get the hype going on your series,” commented Helene Aurø, REinvent sales and marketing director.
Turning on this year’s competition candidates, Aurø points out that both “Dark Horse” and “Painkiller” deal with mother/daughter relationships.

In physics, the three-body problem is ugly. When you have one or two objects exerting gravity on a body, it moves in a predictable pattern. Add a third and its chaos.
In 2024, the three-body problem in media is that every piece of art has a creator, a consumer and politics. So when Netflix’s sci-fi series 3 Body Problem debuted on March 21, anti-woke crusaders such as VCs Marc Andreessen and Andrew Chen only made it one scene in before posting that it was a cri de coeur to end the far-left agenda. Two days after the show dropped, Chen, a Vc at a16z, posted on X, “The opening scene just punches you in the face. Irl cancel culture driven by high school and college students. Science and academia becoming politicized. Tearing down the past. Etc.” A day later, his boss Andreessen posted similar thoughts.

For every Prey or Blade Runner 2049 there are a dozen uninspired retreads of beloved old sci-fi franchises. So a Matrix reboot may not be the best news
Somewhere over the digital horizon, down the rabbit hole and straight on til morning, a new Matrix episode is brewing. After handing us three deeply average (at best) sequels to the majestic original 1999 film, studio Warner Bros has decided to hand the keys of the Nebuchadnezzar to Drew Goddard, whose writing credits include The Martian, The Cabin in the Woods, and Cloverfield. It’s probably a good idea, because the series’ creators, Lana and Lilly Wachowski, have clearly run out of ideas if 2021’s completely superfluous The Matrix Resurrections is anything to go by.
Resurrections joined the ranks of belated sequels to science fiction and fantasy totems that never quite live up to the standards of the original, yet somehow still keep coming.

The nuclear war genre has long been a staple in Tinseltown, with filmmakers putting their own unique spin on the catastrophic scenario. And, when it comes to nuclear, not discussing last year’s Oppenheimer will not do us any favors. Whether it is the ocean eyes of Cillian Murphy or Ludwig Göransson’s relentless score, the film is clearly one of Christopher Nolan’s greatest works.
And it appears that Denis Villeneuve is following in Nolan’s footsteps, as the former may have found his next project in the same genre. The Dune director and Legendary are in talks to collaborate on an adaptation of Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario.
Cillian Murphy in and as Oppenheimer
That being said, we are eager to see if Villeneuve’s approach to this dreaded topic will pose a serious threat to Oscar winner Oppenheimer.

The Academy Awards is that platform where films of every language get much-needed recognition. Hollywood has a long history in terms of cult classics and critically acclaimed films, including Titanic and Avatar. The majority of them have proved themselves deserving enough to get an Oscar.
There are directors, such as Steven Spielberg and Christopher Nolan, whose works are specifically known for different reasons. A bunch of those masterminds created something unique and amazing in their career but they were never considered worthy of an accolade at the Academy Awards. While the reasons remain unknown, here are 7 movies that could not make it to the list of winners at the prestigious award ceremony.

Denis Villeneuve is definitely interested in making a Dune trilogy but it appears that Warner Bros. may steer away the director from such an idea. According to reports, WB is planning to release the successfully running Dune: Part Two on streaming platforms at least by April 15th. Villeneuve vehemently opposed Dune‘s dual release in theaters and HBO Max in 2020. The new move may not make the director a very happy man.

Dune: Part Two has so far collected $252.4 million at the domestic and $373.7 million at the international box office, according to Box Office Mojo. The trend of the numbers shows that the film is not going to slow down anytime soon at the box office.
