After passionately defending filmmaker Woody Allen, Bill Maher has now shared his arguments in favor of welcoming back Louis C.K., in a conversation with fellow comedian Bill Burr, who not only supported his claims but also went on to claim that the cancel culture is not as influential as it once was.

They shared their perspective in a recent discussion on Maher’s Club Random Podcast, talking about the disgraced comedian, who was ousted from the industry after being accused of s*xual misconduct and inappropriate behavior. He has since continued directing and producing his projects. However, the talk show host believes that he should be able to make a comeback.

‘Succession’ has gone out with one final bang: The HBO drama won two Writers Guild of America Awards on Sunday night — the most of any series — for best drama series and also for best drama episode. Creator Jesse Armstrong was on hand in New York to accept the award, while several of the show’s writers were also in LA to accept the honor.
This reps the final major awards show where “Succession” (which ended its run last May) was still eligible. Besides best drama, the show also won the episodic drama prize, for the episode “Living+,” written by Georgia Pritchett and Will Arbery.
The WGA Awards recognized the best of 2023’s television and film via its annual event held this year at the Hollywood Palladium for the West Coast edition and at New York’s Edison Ballroom for the East Coast ceremony.
Big winners on the film side included “American Fiction” writer Cord Jefferson,...

Niecy Nash-Betts, who recently won an Emmy for her role on Netflix’s “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” has signed on to host the Los Angeles portion of next month’s Writers Guild Awards. The 2024 event, which was pushed back in the wake of the Hollywood strikes, will take place on Saturday, April 14 at the Hollywood Palladium.
“A good writer is an actors’ greatest gift,” Nash-Betts said in a statement. Added L.A. awards exec producer Hugh Fink (“Saturday Night Live”): “Niecy Nash-Betts is the dream host for this year’s WGA Awards. Her brilliant performance in ‘Dahmer’ – as the courageous woman who helped take down a serial killer who ate his victims – is surprisingly a lot like negotiating with the AMPTP.”
Benn Fleishman of Avalon Harbor Entertainment is also a producer for this year’s WGA Awards in Los Angeles. Additional presenters scheduled to appear at this year’s L.

Welcome to another rundown of every stat released by the TV insights company Samba TV. Below, we’ll run through all their released viewing stats (whether through their socials or through somewhere else) for Netflix’s newly released movies for the past three years.
How does Samba TV get its data? As described on its own website, the company tracks what appears on the users’ TV by reading pixels and utilizing this data for personalized recommendations on the TV or mobile apps connected to the television.
It’s also important to note that Samba TV stats typically only cover US households.
Of course, Netflix itself releases excellent viewing stats every Tuesday via its top 10 site. However, more data is always good, and it’s good to see shows and movies benchmarked against each other from a company like Samba TV.

With the news of Matthew Perry’s death in late October, viewers seemingly turned to his best-known role as Chandler Bing on Friends to remember him.
The beloved comedy gathered 583 million minutes of viewing on Max for the week of Oct. 23-29 (Perry, 54, was found dead at his home on Oct. 28). That was a 31 percent gain over the previous week and the biggest total watch time for Friends since early February.
A pair of movies, No Hard Feelings and Five Nights at Freddy’s, also made strong showings on the Nielsen streaming charts for the week. The former, starring Jennifer Lawrence, led the rankings with 1.13 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix in the United States — the equivalent of about 10.97 full showings of the movie. That’s two thirds of the worldwide total Netflix reported in its own rankings for the week.

All hail, The Fall Of The House Of Usher.
Mike Flanagan’s latest horror series has succeeded no other show has been able to since Suits took the streaming world by storm. The Fall Of The House Of Usher held onto its top spot on the Nielsen streaming charts for the second consecutive week from October 16 to 22, clocking 1.5B minutes.
That’s a 19% increase in viewership from the previous week, when it debuted on Netflix. It’s the only time that another title has outperformed Suits for two weeks straight since the USA Network legal drama landed on Netflix in June.
The only other time a title managed to outrank Suits was the week of September 11, when Virgin River took over for a week.
But even in second place Suits is still putting up quite the fight. The series racked up another 1.1B viewing minutes during this interval, marking the...

The run-up to Halloween proved to be a good time to release a new version of Goosebumps.
The series based on R.L. Stine’s beloved books broke into the top 10 overall for the week of Oct. 16-22. The show, which streams on both Disney+ and Hulu, racked up 594 million minutes of viewing for its second week of release, marking a rare non-Marvel or Star Wars original series entry for Disney+ in Nielsen’s rankings (being available on two platforms helped, as well).
Nielsen, incidentally, classified Goosebumps as an acquired show the previous week, apparently because of it being shared across the two platforms, before switching it to the originals column going forward.
The Fall of the House of Usher kept the No. 1 overall spot for the second straight week, growing by 19 percent over its opening to 1.47 billion minutes of viewing. Suits remained strong, recording its 18th straight week above a...

In its second showing on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10, “The Fall of the House of Usher” is already setting a strong show as it becomes the only title to consistently outperform “Suits” on the overall chart in back-to-back weeks since its Netflix debut.
During the viewing window, the Edgar Allen Poe-inspired series raked in an additional 1.5 billion minutes viewed during its first full week of availability, pushing it to No. 1 again with a 19% jump from its opening figure of 1.2 billion minutes.
“Suits” continued to remain in the No. 2 spot, but still maintained another week above the 1 billion minutes threshold with 1.06 billion minutes viewed across Netflix and Peacock — an impressive performance in its 18th consecutive week on the chart. To date, the series has accrued 45.445 billion minutes viewed. Landing just beneath is “Grey’s Anatomy,” which recorded 860 million minutes viewed.

Universal Pictures’ “Five Nights at Freddy’s” has taken the video game franchise of the same name to new heights, as the film broke records with the largest first-day opening at the box office for a film with a simultaneous streaming release. Not only that, the supernatural horror film gave Peacock its biggest opening to date and surpassed “Halloween” to become Blumhouse’s best opening of all time.
The film stars Josh Hutcherson as a security guard tasked with the night shift at an abandoned family entertainment center who quickly discovers the resident animatronics come to life, driven by murderous intent. While it received decisively negative reviews from critics, audience reception was more favorable, particularly exciting the franchise’s dedicated fanbase.

French action-comedy “Wingwomen,” which premiered on Nov. 1, flew to the top of the Netflix Top 10 chart during the Oct. 30-Nov. 5 viewing window with 18.5 million views, making it the week’s most-viewed title and No. 1 on the Non-English Films list after five days of availability on the streamer. The weekend before Halloween, it would be easy to expect audiences to sit down for some spooky TV. But looking at the streaming and linear charts for the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of Oct. 23 to 29, you’d be forgiven if you couldn’t guess the season.
Only two programs across both charts this week could be deemed Halloween-adjacent: the Netflix horror drama “The Fall of the House of Usher” in seventh on the streaming chart after several weeks in the top 10 and “Goosebumps,” on Hulu and Disney+, which lands at ninth on the streaming chart.
Beyond those, the familiar fare of movies and prestige TV content is dominating the streaming chart with reality and competition series accounting for most of the linear top 10. The UK mystery, “Bodies” opened atop of the English TV List with 7.7 million views, dethroning “Fall of the House of Usher” in just its second full week of availability. The Edgar Allen Poe-inspired limited series originally debuted in second place on the English-Language TV chart during the Oct.

What’s the top film on VOD this week? Actually, there are three different #1s on iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu. And what makes it weirder is those films don’t rank as high as #2 anywhere they don’t top.
“Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning: Part One” (Paramount), “The Equalizer 3” (Sony), and “The Exorcist: Believer” (Universal), all $19.99 are #1 at iTunes, Google Play, and Vudu respectively. To confuse things even more, three other different films rank #2 — “Barbie” (Warner Bros.), “Saw X” (Lionsgate), and “Talk to Me” (A24). That’s six different titles total ranking in the top two of the three lists. That’s unprecedented.
It’s the third week out for “Mission,” and though it clearly is getting revenue, it is not nearly the dominant force it might have been had it been released 60, not 90, days after hitting theaters. As always, without actual numbers but only rankings to analyze,...

Stand-up comedian and actor Bill Burr made his directorial debut with Old Dads (2023). Anyone who has followed Burr’s stand-up comedies knows he has a reputation for paying no attention to political correctness. Old Dads is what you get when a contrarian and cynical comic directs, co-writes, and co-produces a movie. Since it premiered on Netflix on October 20, 2023, Old Dads has received mixed reviews. However, fans of Bill Burr‘s comedy have enjoyed the comedian’s take on a subject many would rather not talk about. Old Dads follows three middle-aged friends who find themselves struggling to raise kids in...

Stand-up comedian / actor Bill Burr just made his feature directorial debut with the Netflix-released comedy Old Dads (you can read the JoBlo review at This Link), which is cool and all… but here on Arrow in the Head, the horror side of the JoBlo Network, we’re more interested in hearing Burr’s opinions on horror films. That’s why it caught our attention when YouTuber James Whale Bake Sale made a video to go with a clip from Burr’s podcast Monday Morning Podcast in which the comedian discusses the horror classic Friday the 13th – and goes on to explain why he stopped watching horror movies.
The video can be seen at the bottom of this article, and over the course of its five minutes he admits that the final jump scare in Friday the 13th really did scare the hell out of him, says that the franchise...

The millennial generation is now deep into its parenting stage. With some millennials already into their 40s and the term “geriatric millennial” getting thrown around, it seems that some members of the generation are embracing the “old” label.
That may explain how “Old Dads,” the Netflix comedy about aging fathers losing their edge, soared to the top of the streaming chart on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of Oct. 16 to 22. Older millennials, ages 35-44, drove that viewership, as that demographic over-indexed by 3%.
The Wrap Report provides an exclusive first look at the most-watched movies and TV series from the past week across both streaming and linear television sourced from viewership trends collected from Samba TV’s panel of more than 3 million households drawn from over 25 million connected TVs, balanced to the U.S. Census.

“Beckham” has officially been defeated — the Netflix miniseries, not the soccer star. “The Fall of the House of Usher” moved from second place to first on Netflix’s Top 10 English-language TV list Tuesday.
This shift comes a week ahead of Halloween, fitting for the spooky miniseries based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe. The series from Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy secured 7.9 million views in its second week. With those numbers, it beat out last week’s reigning champion “Beckham,” which secured 6.9 million views.
Also on the English-language Top 10 list were the U.K. limited series “Bodies” in the No. 3 spot with 5.5 million views, the fantasy series “I Woke Up a Vampire” in the No. 4 spot with 3.4 million views and Season 4 of the comedy “Sex Education” in the No.

The Fall of the House of Usher has officially dethroned Beckham on Netflix’s English-language TV charts.
Mike Flanagan’s latest horror series took No. 1 just in time for Halloween with 7.9M views from October 16 to 22. That’s up nearly 2M from its debut week, which could signal growing interest in the series in the coming weeks.
Beckham still scored second place among the Top 10, with 6.9M views — down by nearly 6M from the viewing for the limited docuseries the week prior. It is still an impressive showing for the series, considering it is only four episodes.
Season 7 of Big Mouth dropped on Netflix during this interview, drawing about 1.6M views. That put it at No. 7 among English-language series. The UK limited drama series Bodies was another new entrant to the list this week coming in at No. 3 with 5.5M views.

What are the odds that a movie about a "cranky middle-aged dad and his two best friends" finding themselves to be "out of step in a changing world of millennial CEOs and powerful preschool principals" is good? Well, a 17% Rotten Tomatoes score should tell you all you need to know about Bill Burr's "Old Dads," the latest project from the, I think it's fair to say, legendary stand-up comedian.
While Burr's comedy specials will forever be held up as some of the best ever performed, his irascible funnyman schtick hasn't always transferred well to his movie and TV projects. The Bostonian has demonstrated an impressive knack for dramatic roles in the past, appearing in "Breaking Bad," "The Mandalorian," and even showing up in a "Barry" cameo. But with "Old Dads," Burr tried to harness his own experiences being an older father and turn them into a movie which he wrote,...

In its second week available on PVOD (after an unusual 90-day window), “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” (Paramount) finds itself challenged for #1 on the current VOD charts. “Saw X” (Lionsgate) — like “Mission: Impossible,” available at $19.99; though unlike Tom Cruise’s film, it costs more to buy) — released just last Friday leads Vudu’s revenue-based top 10. “Mission: Impossible” remains #1 at transaction-ranking iTunes and Google Play for a second week.
Elsewhere, “No Hard Feelings” (Sony), still on both iTunes and Google Play’s top 10, debuted at #1 on Netflix. The R-rated comedy, starring and co-produced by Jennifer Lawrence, continues to have strong action, significantly more than its $50 million domestic gross would have suggested.
The tenth entry in the long-running “Saw” horror series got its home release only 21 days after opening in theaters. That stands in contrast to the long wait for “Mission: Impossible” to appear. Whatever the reasons in its case,...

So how’s that new Bill Burr movie on Netflix, Old Dads?
It apparently depends whether you ask a critic or an average viewer. The comedy currently has an abysmal 17 percent score among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, yet an impressive 90 percent positive rating for its audience score.
Old Dads is about a trio of late-middle-age fathers Burr, Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine, who “find themselves battling preschool principals, millennial CEOs and anything created after 1987.” Burr co-wrote the film (with Ben Tishler) and it marks his directorial debut. The film has debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 movies list.
One fan gained headlines for declaring Old Dads the “best movie I’ve seen in 15 years” and another opined, “It was so hilarious that I literally fell off my chair while laughing … Bill Burr is like a younger version of Larry David.” Meanwhile, The Associated Press countered that Old Dads is “a meandering,...

Old Dads is a 2023 American comedy film directed by Bill Burr and starring Burr, Bobby Cannavale, and Bokeem Woodbine. The film follows the story of three best friends who become fathers later in life and find themselves struggling to adapt to a changing world.
They are friends, they have a company in common, they are older and, in addition, all three are “mature” parents facing a new world of millennials and new customs.
If you’re in your forties and think this world has changed too much already, this movie will tickle your fancy.
This from a 40-year-old who thinks this world is too soft.

Review: If you are a fan of Bill Burr’s stand-up comedy, you likely know what you are in for with Old Dads. Burr’s directorial debut is an amalgam of his observations and rants from his twenty-plus years as a comedian told through the fictional story of a trio of fifty-year-olds dealing with generational change. On the heels of a year that has seen semi-autobiographical films starring comedians like Burt Kreischer and Sebastian Maniscalco and the series Bupkis with Pete Davidson, Old Dads is a fictional story that relies heavily on Burr’s sense of humor. The comedian makes his directorial debut with a bitter misfire about three older fathers railing against political correctness
Judd Apatow has spent much of the 21st century showing America how dudes become men, his films built coming-of-age-like narratives for overgrown juveniles well into legal adulthood. In Knocked Up, Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd respectively modeled irresponsibility for twenty and thirtysomethings, and with This is 40, Rudd’s character stared down the barrel of middle age; in all cases, they arrived at the crucial realization that they need to stop clinging to vestiges of immaturity so they can provide for the people they care about. For these schlubs, the desire to stay young forever meant smoking weed during the daytime, bumping Wu-Tang with your friends and going to rock shows without getting your wife’s permission. For an ensemble in their 50s, however, rejecting the onward march of time becomes a far dicier proposition.

Three fiftysomething jerks extend their adolescence way, way beyond the breaking point in Old Dads, a boorish and obnoxiously vulgar comedy that, since it can’t claim any other great distinction, might well have been expressly written to break the all-time record for use of the f-word in the major studio movie. Even Lenny Bruce might be twitching in his grave over this one.
All the same, director/co-writer Bill Burr has more often than not had his finger on the pulse of the populace, so this slap-dash-feeling Netflix offering likely will prove a solid audience-pleaser.
There certainly have been plenty of comedies featuring guys who put off behaving like adults for as long as they can; perhaps The Odd Couple still stands as the quintessential example of this subgenre whose roots go pretty deep. In this case, the three buds behave as if they should be enrolled, not in grade school,...

“Old Dads,” a Netflix comedy about three middle-aged dads in Los Angeles, each trying to deal with the delayed pleasures and perils of fatherhood, sounds like a Hollywood satire to watch along with “Bad Moms,” or maybe the sort of broad burlesque of child-rearing that would star someone like John Cena. Actually, though, it’s not that sort of movie. It was directed and co-written by Bill Burr, who also stars in it, and it’s been spun out of the kind of prickly incorrect observations that are the hallmark of Burr’s stand-up comedy — and also the kind of squirm comedy that powers his anthology series “Immoral Compass.” “Old Dads” isn’t nearly as good as “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” but at times it feels like three episodes of that show jammed together — that is, if Larry David were a Gen-x firecracker whose anger-management issues make Larry look like a pussycat.

The upcoming “Killers of the Flower Moon” is bringing the Western genre back into center stage this October.
The film took the top spot on Whip Media’s Movie Anticipation Report for the month, based on viewing intent data from TV Time, Whip Media’s TV and movie tracking app with more than 28 million global registered users. Not only that, the crime drama has already received mass critical acclaim, perhaps making up for its various production complications for distributors Apple and Paramount.
Stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert de Niro, and Lily Gladstone play the leads of the highly anticipated film, which is an adaptation of the 2017 book of the same name by author David Grann. Serving as both director and producer, Martin Scorsese also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Eric Roth, marking his latest in a series of collaborations with DiCaprio and de Niro.

There are a few standout new releases on Netflix in October, but it’s a rather quiet month on the world’s most popular streaming service otherwise!
Highlights this month include a brand-new series from Spook Master Mike Flanagan. The Fall of the House of Usher is a gothic tale loosely based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe, and tells the story of two extremely unpleasant siblings whose family dynasty ends up going to hell in a handbasket. Before you ask: yes, Rahul Kohli is in it. That’s all that a lot of people need to know here (we’re people).
Elsewhere, Netflix is dropping a few interesting-looking docuseries, including one on football legend David Beckham. It promises to be an “intimate portrait” of Beckham, and the filmmakers were apparently granted unprecedented access to the sportsman and his family while making it.

Elsewhere, Netflix is dropping a few interesting-looking docuseries, including one on football legend David Beckham. It promises to be an “intimate portrait” of Beckham, and the filmmakers were apparently granted unprecedented access to the sportsman and his family while making it.

Comedian Bill Burr is officially transitioning from stand-up to Hollywood director in his new Netflix movie, “Old Dads”.
Burr is behind and in front of the camera in the new R-rated comedy he wrote and produced. Coming along for the ride are co-stars Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine, who are late-in-life fathers who find their old-school parental mentality going up against preschool principals and millennial CEOs.

The trailer shows Burr’s comedy skills in full motion, as he cusses out neighbours for trying to give him medical advice regarding his little one’s playground cut and lashes out at a preschool principal when arriving late to the afterschool meeting.

"Maybe I'm not cut out for this... but I'd do anything for my kid." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a comedy called Old Dads, marking the feature directorial debut of comedian / actor Bill Burr. Burr co-writes, directs, produces and stars in this film for Netflix. Thankfully it doesn't seem to have anything to do with Wild Hogs or anything else like that. Burr co-stars with Bobby Cannavale and Bokeem Woodbine, who play the titular "old dads". Three best friends become fathers later in life and find themselves battling preschool principals, millennial CEOs and anything created after 1987. The comedy cast also includes Katie Aselton, Reign Edwards, Rachael Harris, Miles Robbins, and Jackie Tohn. This doesn't seem like it's going to reinvent comedy, but it also doesn't look as bad as it very easily could look. There's a few solid jokes in here, and some super cringe humor – which is actually kind of amusing.

Comedian Bill Burr has arguably made an entire career out of being an out-of-touch crank, but don’t mistake him for Joe Rogan, Burr’s savvier (and much more tolerant) than that. And Burr has had three comedy specials on Netflix so far, so in a logical extension of that deal; he’s co-written his directorial debut, “Old Dads,” which pitches his regular routine of old dude who doesn’t love change and is confused about today’s culture in a new comedy.
