Even if you spend all your free time watching a variety of TV shows, regardless of language, rating, genre, or time period, you're still far from watching every show imaginable. All the studios, producers, and platforms have now created so many hours of content that it will be hard to fit in just one life.
While that may be disappointing to some, it also means that you will always have something new to watch. So if you are looking for the next hidden gem to check out, you can start with something from the list below.
Revolution (2012-2014)
Revolution is a sci-fi show that could have done much better in the 2020s than it did in the 2010s. Set in the dystopian future, a group of revolutionaries start fighting against the military tyrants, who gained their powers after the unknown entities shut down all the electricity in the world, creating...

After she won the 2021 Palme d’Or for Titane, in a which a sociopathic stripper becomes a serial killer and has sex with muscle cars, Julia Ducournau was effusive in her gratitude to the Cannes Film Festival. “Thank you for calling for more diversity in our experiences of film and our lives,” she said. “Thank you for letting in the monsters.”
Titane was only her second movie; the first, Raw, made its humble debut in Critics’ Week, but it was recognizably the work of the same artist, being a tender coming of age story about a veterinary student who discovers that she comes from a long line of cannibals.
Although Cannes has a long way to go in terms of gender parity, the festival has been quick to tap into the new wave of female-directed horror that has sprung up in the wake of Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook 10 years ago.

Updated: Donald Trump’s attorney in the former president’s hush money trial went straight at the prosecution’s star witness, Michael Cohen, kicking off a profanity-laced cross examination.
To start off, Todd Blanche introduced himself to Cohen, saying that although they’d never met “you went on TikTok and called me a crying little s—t” after the trial started.
“Sounds like something I would say,” Cohen deadpanned before a prosecutor could finish objecting to the question.
So it went for much of the next two hours in a Manhattan courtroom: Blanche confronting Cohen with insults he’s lobbed mainly at Trump on his podcasts and social media, including a TikTok account he signed up for about six weeks ago to live-stream chats, and Cohen allowing that he had probably said those things.
“Dictator d—bag,” “boorish cartoon misogynist” and “Cheetoh-dusted cartoon villain” were a few of the slurs that Cohen admitted to.

For those keeping score, and we know Neon is, it’s four Palme d’Or victories for Neon, who bought “Anatomy of a Fall” out of last year’s Cannes Film Festival. The boutique shingle didn’t stop there, and also acquired “Robot Dreams” and “Perfect Days” as well. Netflix plunked down $11 million for “May December,” and the festival produced sales for other buzzy titles like “Jeanne du Barry” and “The Taste of Things.” All that, and with the specter of the writers strike hanging over it.
So what will sell big this year? Many of the titles in competition as part of this year’s Official Selection are up for grabs, even as Neon, A24, Mubi, and Searchlight are all arriving with at least one contender in the main race. We’ll be tracking everything that gets bought below throughout the festival and beyond.

Don’t be surprised if you see Demi Moore on the Croisette — like, a lot. The veteran actress is set to make a mark at the Cannes Film Festival this year with a film in competition and a packed schedule to match.
Moore stars in filmmaker Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance opposite Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid. Little is known about Fargeat’s sophomore feature — she debuted with 2017’s stylish Revenge — other than that it’s being referred to as a feminist take on body horror.
Cannes has given The Substance a late-night slot for its world premiere on Sunday, May 19, confirming a busy weekend for Moore. As previously announced, the actress will also take on the role of godmother for luxury jewelry house Chopard’s Trophée Chopard gala ceremony. The event, at Carlton Beach Club on May 17, will see rising star honors presented to Challengers star Mike Faist and...

Ministry went back to their synth-pop roots at the Cruel World festival at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on Saturday (May 11th), playing some songs they haven’t performed in 40 years.
On a bill featuring legendary new wave bands like Duran Duran and Blondie, frontman Al Jourgensen and company set aside their blistering brand of industrial metal for the day. Instead, they primarily culled their set from their first two albums: 1983’s With Sympathy and 1986’s Twitch.

According to Setlist.fm, three of the songs — “Work for Love,” “I’m Falling,” and “Effigy (I’m Not An)” — hadn’t been performed since 1984. Three others — “All Day,” “Over the Shoulder,” and “Just Like You,” — hadn’t been played since 1987.
For this performance, Ministry turned into a 13-piece band with backing vocals and strings provided by the “Ministrettes’ and “Ministrings,” respectively. Among the other added musicians was...

The Match Factory is handling international sales on the movie, and Mubi just acquired the rights in North America, the U.K., Ireland, Germany, Austria, Latin America and Benelux, where they will release the film theatrically this year. Mubi has also acquired the movie for Turkey and India.
“We’re very proud to be acquiring ‘The Substance’ by a French director who had already shined with her feature debut, ‘Revenge,’ and has been able to modernize a genre that very few filmmakers can tackle with such artistry,” said Victor Hadida, Metropolitan Filmexport’s co-founder and president.

Ministry’s Al Jourgensen Despised His Debut Album. Forty Years Later, He’s Finally Playing the Songs
It took a conspiracy to get Ministry frontman Al Jourgensen to come around to his band’s debut album, the proudly commercial, synth-pop juggernaut With Sympathy. The vocalist has spent the past four decades separating himself from the LP, since he alleges his label at the time, Arista, and its founder, Clive Davis, pressured him into constructing a surefire Billboard hit. He has felt so embarrassed by the whole thing that he left the label and has charged fans $1,000 just for him to autograph copies of the record. Now for the first time in decades,...

Plot: Cinderella is pushed too far by her evil stepsisters and stepmother, which causes her to switch out her glass shoes and use the assistance of her Fairy Godmother to seek bloody vengeance.
Review: Everyone knows what they’re in for when it comes to these movies at this point, right? I don’t need to lay out the schpeal about public domain horror? Good, because it seems as though these films are here to stay. And in instances like this, I kind of get it. A twisted take on a tale that’s been told a thousand times? We saw Seth Grahame-Smith do something similar with his Pride, Prejudice and Zombies and even Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. So it’s not like this is a brand-new concept. The real question remains: how well does this film do with transforming the Cinderella story into one of horror?

The second part of Fritz Lang and Thea von Harbou’s adaptation of the epic poem, Kriemhild’s Revenge picks up directly where the first part, Siegfried, left off. The legendary hero is dead, and his wife – though it was partly her stupidity that led to it – is seriously pissed off. She blames royal advisor Hagen Tronje (Hans Adalbert Sclettow), but her brother King Gunther (Theodor Loos) won’t let her kill him – to do so would be to break a bond of honour. Engaging directly in violence, as a woman, is apparently not something she can conceive of, but she does have other options. She is still young and beautiful, and with access to Siegfried’s famous hoard of treasure, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a new husband.
Kriemhild has a very particular husband in mind: one of history’s most famous conquerors, Attila the Hun.

X-Men ’97 has had massive success among the Marvel fans. The animated series, which is a revival and continuation of the ’90s X-Men show, has generated immense hype. However, it has also attracted very strong criticism regarding the character of Rogue. The fans did not appreciate how the show pulled off some insane de-sexualization of the curvaceous figure of Rogue.

Since the first trailer dropped, many fans who found their first love in Rogue in the 90s complained on the internet that her physique was drastically changed in the new animation. In some scenes, Rogue’s butt looked extremely flat. However, the Rogue voice actress, Lenore Zann, seems to have found the perfect way to address the criticism by paying homage to the iconic “America’s Ass.”

Fairy tales, in their undiluted forms, need no help when it comes to being creepy and horrifying. However, the Disneyfication of these classic stories makes it rather easy to forget their morbid beginnings. In the case of Cinderella, most modern adaptations of this quintessential rags-to-riches tale rarely bring up the violent aspects. All of that has been long removed in favor of safer elements, such as fairy godmothers and anthropomorphic mice. Yet, when reimagining the flaxen servant-turned-princess as someone who seeks “bloody vengeance,” Tom Jolliffe looked to the past; the Cinderella’s Revenge screenwriter found inspiration in the character’s gruesome roots.
The Brothers Grimm did not come up with Cinderella (or Aschenputtel) all on their own, but their familiar variation provides part of the source material for Cinderella’s Revenge. Charles Perrault is also credited, seeing as his French version (Cendrillon) was the first to feature the fairy godmother,...

Updated On April 22, 2024: With the addition of two new films to this year’s competition section, both directed by men, this year’s competition slate now includes 21 films, only four of which are directed by women. That tallies to just 19 percent of this year’s competition titles being helmed by women.
Our original story from April 11, 2024 follows.
Hot off last year’s record-breaking competition lineup — including seven films directed by women, plus an eventual Palme d’Or win for Justine Triet (only the third woman to win the festival’s top prize) — this year’s Cannes Film Festival has returned to old habits. The 77th edition will include (as of today’s announcement) just four films directed by women in the competition section, bringing representation down to 2021 levels (and returning the festival’s female-directed entries to a number that was only hit in 2011).

Who are we to disagree Danielle Harris? When looking for a Best Horror Movie You Never Saw, nothing in our completely mad up rules that say a movie can’t be well received at the time of release. It can win awards including one from the audiences that saw it at TIFF and the kind of go away. There are a ton of movies that are great and original films in a genre that is nearly as obsessed with sequels and movie universes as DC and Marvel are today. Stake Land (watch it Here) is an original piece of media that is one part Walking Dead, one part The Road, and all together one of the Best Horror Movies you Never Saw.

The 1990s are regularly regarded as the era of the high-concept thriller. In the wake of eighties smashes like Jagged Edge and Fatal Attraction, audiences tended to flock to these kinds of movies, although it’s worth noting they quickly spun off into two different mini-genres. There was the erotic thriller genre, whose queen was definitely Sharon Stone, with movies like Basic Instinct and Sliver, but there was also the so-called yuppie thriller.
These movies often centred around upwardly mobile middle-class couples who wind up in the crosshairs of a maniac who wants to dismantle their lives. Fatal Attraction was arguably the first of these. Still, many more would follow, including Pacific Heights, which featured Michael Keaton in a memorably evil role, Bad Influence (with Rob Lowe), Internal Affairs (which revitalized Richard Gere’s career), Malice, and the great Single White Female. But, of the genre, one of the most effective was 1992’s Unlawful Entry,...

Set in contemporary Italy, the wealthy playboy Leonardo (Gianni Rosato) – think ponytail-era Aaron Rogers – meets and falls for the beguiling Emanuelle (Beatrice Schiaffino.) But what begins as a simple cat-and-mouse game of seduction, soon turns much sinister.

Remakes are the talk of the town, especially in the Disney+ Hotstar universe. On one hand, The Night Manager was a huge success, while The Trial, the remake of the CBS drama The Good Wife, did not receive much appreciation because of the unsatisfactory writing and terrible understanding of the nuances from the original show. There were a lot of surprises in the "Star Wars" prequels, perhaps the biggest of which was the sheer extent of Palpatine's machinations. We knew he was evil and powerful, sure, but we didn't know he'd ever been called Darth Sidious, and we certainly didn't know he'd been the Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. The Palpatine of the prequel trilogy operates right under the Jedis' noses for three movies straight, scheming his way into a dictatorship with barely any hitches in his plans.
It's a different approach from how the original trilogy shrouded Palpatine in mystery. Even by the time Vader was chucking him off that shaft at the end of "Return of the Jedi," we still didn't know much about the character. If you're being critical, you can say the prequels' portrayal of him was a bad choice that made the Jedi seem like buffoons and took away the Emperor's mystique.

Talking about the similarities with his character, Varun said: “When I read about Ahaan and I got into the details of Ahaan’s dating life after reading the script, I realised that there might be a few similarities between him and me as personalities because I think Ahaan as a character is very understanding, he believes people easily and he just feels that everybody is a nice person”.
The actor further mentioned: “I have been a victim of that but I think I would like to believe that I am like Ahaan in real life.

Paris-based sales house Charades has acquired international sales rights to “In a Violent Nature,” the debut feature film from writer and director Chris Nash that is set to premiere in Sundance’s Midnight Section on Jan. 22.
Produced by Shudder under the streaming service’s Shudder Original banner, the film follows a vengeful undead monster as he methodically slaughters a group of campers in the wilderness after they remove a pendant from his resting grounds. Peter Kuplowsky and Shannon Hanmer are also producers on “In a Violent Nature,” which is set for release in 2024.
“‘In a Violent Nature’ reminded us of ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ and ‘Angst,’ but most of all, it’s the discovery of an incredibly talented director,” said Charades co-founders Pierre Mazars, Yohann Comte and Carole Baraton. “We are very grateful to be working with Shudder once again with whom we are building an incredible track record of genre films from ‘Revenge,...
