Easily one of the best new shows on television.
john-8740225 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First off, I'm a chef...

Obviously this episode was phenomenal, but the season as a whole was a great ride. The cast is top notch, the characters are believable, and the story a whole is very realistic.

I can see "The Bear" laying the ground work in becoming a high end scratch kitchen in season 2, and the show runners showing us all the difficulties involved with that. Perhaps they buy the property next door and expand the footprint.

Great breath of fresh air for television.

10/10.

My favorite new show
samueljcarbajal27 June 2022
I will keep this review short because I don't want to spoil anything, but this episode is perfect. Once it ends, it's easy to see that the writers and everyone involved had a very specific vision and storyboard for this season. Nothing was out of place or used to fill time and it all culminated in a fantastic season ending.

Holy Moley!!!!
chocolatepopcorn2 July 2022
This has to be the best season finale of any show I've seen, either that or a close second. This is such an impressive closer for a first season, its unbelievable. I nearly cried when Carmy was talking at the beginning of this episode, Jeremy Allen White has to be one of the most underrated actors I've seen at this point, his performance is so powerful here. I sure as heck wasn't expecting the end to this episode and made me feel all sorts of emotions but overall I was heartwarmed. Very few shows have done what this one is doing, going straight for the soul with raw authenticity from the likes of Freaks And Geeks among others. The high ratings for this show are well deserved, I can't emphasize that enough. I need season 2 now!!!!

I won't spoil this but.....

I was enjoying this show, I thought it was very good. I loved the acting the story etc but I was thinking they surely could do more. I've never worked in a restaurant but it just seemed to me that it is just the most stressful thing and the shoe just seemed to be about grief and stress

But then the last five minutes happened and it hit me like a punch in the face. One of may favourite songs started playing and then what happened next made so many things fall into place. The last five minutes is one of the best five minutes of tv ever. The last shot made me tear up. Perfect song to match the vibe of the scene. Excellent tv.

KBL and "Can I talk to you in the kitchen about JAW please?"
hypchyck-125 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First, haven't written a review since iMDB got rid of the message boards. Therefore, The Bear is something special..cuz written review.

Re: S1E8: Soooo... Mikey knew Carmy would make it all right once he figures out 28oz San Marzano's were the key? Resealed cans or what? And he planned this because... why? Maybe that'll be answered in the next season. There better be a next season. (sidebar: in Italian cooking as far as canned tomatoes go, San Marzano's really are the key) Outside of this questionable plot point, such a great season! That said...

Uhhhh...Can I talk to you in the kitchen about Jeremy Allen White? (Kudos if you get the reference). My gosh did I love me some Lip in Shameless. Chicago sure does look good on him. He and costar Ayo Edebiri lead an amazing ensemble. I watched because Jeremy Allen White really is THAT good. And The Bear proves it. It felt real. The kind of story where you hold out hope that somewhere, this kind of 'against-all-odds' is happening in real time. There is something to be said about love expressed through cooking. Any person who truly loves cooking knows this. Personally I always say love is my secret ingredient, what makes my food tastes the way it does. I think anyone who has a passion for it would agree.

The show is so well done. You care about these folks from the get go and Jeremy Allen White leads the way. He's the real deal.

The Bear is worth your time.

Warning: Spoilers
Fantastic episode, Jeremy Allen White deserves awards. But if Mike was so in debt, why did you have all this money stashed? Hopefully this will be answered in the coming season, but all in all a fantastic episode to wrap a great first season.

Riveting, authentic and intense
putneychick19 December 2022
And it touches every part of your soul watching Jeremy Allen White going through the emotions of his roller coaster. If I were him, I would have suffered a nervous breakdown but I guess thats what kitchen experiences either make you or break you! The other characters were so real and down-to-earth, effortless acting making the show a joy to watch. It had an element of raw intensity and true grit to everything they do. The finale was such a great closure for everyone - hoping to see season 2 too. What a great fantastic show couldn't believe that it was that good. Blind me over and over again.:-)

Love this show. A few unanswered questions

Warning: Spoilers
Can someone explain how Mikey got the money into the unopened cans? I think the money somehow ties into the electric company accounting that Carmy was asking about.

TV shows do not make me cry..
ashishhsunny31 August 2022
A shed a tear or two by the end, ngl here. This was a heartwarming season finale. It would be better if it's watched on as a combinational piece with the last episode, which was a hot box. This was more like the calm after the storm with pleasant surprises.. Great music, satisfying resolution is what this episode was. Also, I like it when they make it cheesy and the characters in a show get great payoffs and I was hoping they would do it in this. But they way they pulled it off was a nice surprise. Great stuff, would be very curious how would they pull off the next season, I really hope their problems would be outside the restaurant this time now that the family stuff is sorted out. 10/10.. Best TV I've seen in a long while.

"Bear" is the best series I have seen in many years
rwoavon29 July 2022
Trust me, "Bear" is a great show. The writing, pacing, acting, and Chicagoland atmospherics are all top notch.

It is a series, so compelling, that is difficult not to binge through all 8 episodes at one sitting.

Honestly, I didn't want it to end, and can't wait for season 2.

I can't give a better review than that. Kudos to everyone involved.

Watch and enjoy the adventure.

The Show Ruined Marcus and Sydney
connorcalvert19 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Good episode but the way they treated Marcus' behaviour with the donuts during the freakout and Sydney's mistakes and constant attitude is just infuriating for anyone that has worked at a restaurant, or worked at any job in general. This felt like the one time this show did not seem realistic.

Marcus ignores everyone melting down around him to focus on making his donut, going up to everyone during that moment to brag about it and then quits when Carmy calls him out. Then the writers had Carmy apologize for getting mad at him??

And Sydney hasn't matured at all since, made a huge mistake that caused hell to break loose in the kitchen, stabs Richie, starts laughing about it and then quits saying none of this was her fault. Then in this episode, she still doesn't feel any remorse and Carmy takes her back in??

This felt really unlike every character's normal behaviours, especially Carmy, as someone that worked at the best restaurant on Earth would know it is not him that needs to apologize and shouldn't take them back on the spot after he saw how they react to pressure. I felt like after such a drastic situation on the second last episode, the characters needed more time to be able to return then coming back an episode later.

Great season ending that gets you excited for the next one.
stillnotyourbusiness18 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Considering how anxious the last episode was, this one was a great way to end this season on a somehow happy note. I'm so thrilled to see what the next season will bring.

Tina using the blue apron was so touching, I have been waiting for this moment since the very beginning. Marcus coming back made me so happy, we'll see if he finally has his amazing doughnuts next season. And although Sydney had some questionable actions in episode 1x07, her presence in that kitchen is so interesting.

The scene of Carmy in that AI-Anon meeting was heartbreaking and Jeremy did an amazing job all season, but especially there, you could see his guilt and pain from miles away.

Very excited to see what changes will see with 'The Bear' and which problems they'll have now that the main one has been solved (or so it seems).

I thought too hard about it
slightlylostbhoy16 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So I got to the end of this first season, performances and directing are outstanding. Hence the 5 Stars: I don't rewatch anything I rate under 6 stars, so this gets all the Stars up to that point.

But there were a few too many things that are just difficult to believe:

1 - A struggling sandwich restaurant that opens at three in the afternoon.

2 - The note that remained hidden despite Carmy instituting deep cleans since his takeover

3 - and then the tinned tomatoes...

3a - I see folk focusing on the difficulty of resealing aluminum tins; this is a fair complaint.

3b - I see folk asking, 'why stash the money when debt is an issue?'; also fair, but I've worked in restaurants that struggled and suddenly the card machine is 'out of order' so they can take in cash to keep going instead of the money going into the bank and disappearing to pay the creditors

But dammit, 3C, my own complaint: How I am I supposed to believe that a struggling ITALIAN restaurant left crates of tinned tomatoes on the shelf for MONTHS because Carmy prefferred the larger tins?!

It doesn't happen, everything is taken down to the wire and gets used.

The asinine explainer in the season 2 opening closed off any ideas I might have had about Mikey and some nefarious enterprise to make the story interesting. The show remains a tale of grieving, entirely about how people feel, not how they work.

I continue watching it for the characters, but I try to check my brain at the door as far as character choices and plot points go.

Excellent. Jeremy Allen White is brilliant
karenannekirch10 December 2022
I just binge watched all eight episodes this morning and I fell in love with the show. Jeremy Ellen White is a brilliant young actor and I've loved him ever since I saw him on Shameless.

I loved the beginning scene where you feel how much he loved his brother Michael. He wanted to work and cook with him. I loved Jon Berthal playing his brother. Hope we see more of him in flashbacks.

He is so easy and such a natural actor who can make you cry.

All entire cast is great and if you love great acting and food... you'll love this show.. Goes so quick that you don't want it to end. Cannot wait for next season.

Incredible and emotional finale!
and_mikkelsen10 January 2024
The bear just delivered a powerfull emotional finale with incredible acting and moments of character that will soften even the toughest of hearts!

This was a rollercoaster! After the insanely chaotic episode, it feels like the characters are at a crossroad.. having to look within.. to figure out just who they are, what they wanna do and who they wanna be!

Jeremy Allen delivers and insane monologue at the beginning of the episode! Summoning his character, his inner struggles and how it all goes back to his relationship with his brother and family! In an attempt to gain his brothers respect and attention, he instead destined himself from him and everyone and himself. Its all summed up in a chill inducing line.. "I lost track of time.. and he died"

Carmen opening the letter from his brother was equally powerfull and meaningfull! He really goes through some amazing development as he realizes what kind of person he has been!

The ending was heartwarming and let all the emotions out! Next season is gonna be wild!

The Bear - season 1
president_eden25 August 2023
Great season! Throughout the series, I had the feeling that I was watching the "Shameless" of this generation of television. Another great dramedy that doesn't shy away from experimenting with its' storylines and direction.

I love how this series shows the work of the kitchen. Working as a cook for more than 10 years, in each episode you snatch out situations that happened to me in real life. This is definitely one of the most relatable series that I've ever watched.

The series has great potential, and when now their small business has turned into a cafe, all the more, I want to continue to watch their development with interest.

Awesome show I must admit I don't understand half of the dialogue as it related to the cooking field, but the actor's delivery and expressions deliver a powerful punch. Family drama that any person can relate to. Watch the 1st season and you will be pulled in. I binge about 1/2 season initially but had to pull back as need 2nd look. Jeremy Ellen White is a tortured soul that you can't help but root for but every character has its place and places an important part like leaves on the tree. The restaurant is the heart of the show. I love the analogy of "the Bear". Family is not always just blood.

Great ending
pivotal126 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Just a well written tight ending to a high anxiety story. This story has caused me to take a break, every episode, from its intense storyline. This show has the same level of intensity that "Succession" has with a smaller cast and a much simpler set. The acting is great, top marks to white and Bacharach and the rest of the crew. This is some Emmy level writing and acting. To which I hope they are awarded. I think they should not go to a second season it would seem to be untenable to out do the first season. I look forward to more from the writers and director. Making a review contain 600 words is a pain.

San Mariano's are the key
millaandersen-699076 July 2022
If you know, you know. And I'm not just referring to San Mariano's being the best tomato to use for sauce. The kitchen, the relationships, the desire to do more, be more, than before. Family.

This finale was everything.

Wow. All the feels.
amyjo-111111 July 2023
The way this whole episode was put together, especially the absolutely perfect ending... it was just so incredibly moving. Just beautiful! It was so touching to see the softer, more humble side of the characters and how some loose ends were closed at the end... all of the reveals were really perfect and brought everything together. Again, I can't express enough how very emotional and touching this ending was. Families are complicated. Grief is complicated. We can all relate. Not gonna lie, I was ugly crying by the end! Kudos to the writers and the amazing cast. About to start Season 2. Really looking forward to seeing what's next.

Just wow
marwan114 September 2023
What a masterpiece.. What a great season, what an iconic direction, and an indescribable narration.. I haven't had these feelings in a long time.. The ups and downs of the events.. The amount of psychological attachment to the characters and the mixed emotions.. I fell in love with this series from the first episode and one of the most beautiful decisions of my life is that I decided to watch it .. The series is written correctly .. The amount of my attachment to it and the twists and feelings that I went through with this show are indescribable .. A series that transported me to another world and showed me a perspective that I did not expect to see about the kitchen .. The depth of my narrative and details I didn't I know about it..You may find your dish open in front of the table, but you do not know what happened, only to prepare this dish for you..Carmine's relationship with his family was so touching and deeply writing .. The psychological problems that Richie goes through and the transition of events. Everything in this show is literally my taste.. And the end is never expected .. And it will remain one of the most beautiful endings of any season I have watched .. I'm just in love with it. 9/10.

Warning: Spoilers
I feel like it was a little bit of a cop out to randomly find all the money and quickly solve the problems, but this was a good finale that made us interested in Season 2. You never quite know what you're going to get episode to episode here and I think that is a good thing.

Good Show! Bad Season 1 Finale!
shcakouros6 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Who doesn't like a fairy tale, happy ending? Not when the saccharine tone doesn't match the previous 7-1/2 of gritty episodes.

Spoiler: Finding money in tomato sauce cans! It couldn't happen; there is no way to reseal aluminum cans!

And doesn't a drug addict spend every last dollar he has to feed his habit? Why suicide? I assumed it was because Michael was in heavy debt. Why borrow cash from Cicero to stash in cans? And doesn't Carmen owe this money back to Cicero?

Show was terrific, gritty, realistic until this unbelievable ending. Sugar, yeah, sugar sweet icing ending. What a cop-out!

Season 2 where to go after this silliness!

cool plot twist
nerrdrage16 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Didn't see that one coming! How did Mikey manage to re-seal the money in all those tomato cans? And did anyone catch a passing reference earlier in the season where a character says "we never use tomatoes" in reference to their usual cooking? Yet those tomato cans were in the background all along, a big fat clue right under our noses!

Nice to see Richie finally does the right thing and gives Carmy the note from Mikey. But I can't help thinking, that's a very strange suicide note. Why would Mikey hide a suicide note?

I wonder if another shoe is going to drop. Mikey went to that bridge to meet some people in a situation he knew could turn deadly. He hid the note for Carmy in a place where only someone who spent a lot of time at the restaurant would finally stumble across it, with a clue about the location of the money that anyone besides Carmy would ignore. Clever! Maybe Mikey was murdered in a way made to look like suicide. Why would some guy with $300K kill himself?
