In Nathan Kincaid's directorial debut, he challenges the modern-digital film approach by shooting Dark Desert Highway all in 35 mm. For those of you who don't know about the film-making/film-shooting process, this means that the director is sacrificing much more time (must go through a very tedious, very meticulous process in editing and fusing) and money (35mm costs about ten times more than digital to process) to exercise the art and craft it takes to achieve his or her final aesthetic. The storyline of Dark Desert Highway itself grabs the audience's interest right away, establishing conflict and mystery, and never let's up on the action. The environment and era that this period piece captures is true-to- form authentic as they come. From the hotel rooms to the cars, the costumes to the bars, this film recreates San Francisco in the 1940's and projects the viewer to that special time and place. The actors nail their individual roles with a degree of professionalism not often seen in short , low-budget films and the climax and resolution of the storyline are gripping enough to re-watch several times over.
