When Jupiter, king of the ancient gods, goes missing, his power goes away with it, and all deities but Thanatos(Death) flee for fear of mortal retribution. You must choose a Legend and play against others, ending with facing the reaper of souls. Yeah, is that not about as complex as these plots get? This is an arcade(and you know how great Sega is at that genre! Sonic, The House of The Dead series... and they hit the jackpot again with this one) fighting game, with a side-view(it *is* in 3D). You can't jump, duck or kick. Sidestepping to avoid getting hit is possible, and you can do the other usual moves for this type of title. There are 8 original characters(a gladiator who sends a lion at you, a demon who can stab his slave(that does combat for him) so he'll bleed on you(it's poisonous), a minotaur(can you say bull rush?) in bad need of anger management and a mechanical man(in bronze or silver, depending on the skin you set, and he can be repaired in the field!) and the frenzied inventor who built it) to choose from and 2 unlockables(Mr. Dead, who you get by defeating him as the eight aforementioned, and a skeletal warrior named Valeska, who you get by, well, winning over her... she's a tough biddy(well, I cleaned it up in case any kids are reading this)), and all 10 have their own weapon(that come with a special attack, and everyone you can play as has three, and that any of the same of the three weight classes can use... they are Lithe, light, weak and fast, Massive, heavy, strong and slow, and Rugged, a happy medium) and enchantment(that anyone can use once they've taken out that "person"(or whatever)... they affect you or the other one, stealing energy(you have four bars total, they fill as you dish out punishment), life, dealing extra damage, etc.) in the Story Mode(where you fight all that are in this). Every arena is famous(Atlantis, belly of the Leviathan, etc.) and is guarded by a creature you've heard of(Poseidon, the Kraken(for some reason appearing in the Coliseum ruins...), etc.) that you may have to fend off or dodge. They made sure to fully go for the mythology(if you are at all into that, *get this*; everyone has a backstory, and every conclusion is delicious, an ironic morality tale right out of lore) and the ancient(Ra is made mention of, you can play as a stone golem, a Valkyrie or a Medusa), with commentary by one of the Fates, Roman numerals for the countdown(to win, you have to knockout your opponent or down them three times, and the first two, they get ten seconds to get back up, during which you can also regain some health) and acts instead of rounds. Something that puts this above its competition is immersion(as it is frankly average or below in many respects, perhaps even most), because you execute blows by moving the Wii-Mote and/or Nun-chuk to the left or right(not sure if that leads to the same strike, sometimes it seems to, other times, not), or forward(for an overhead one), and you can chain these or make them unblockable(and less swift) by holding down B. You really get into it and as you are constantly prompted to do gestures with the two motion sensor enhanced controllers, this is an intense, gripping and entertaining time. Yes, it wears you out, this console tends to. It takes between half an hour to a full one to complete per each you play as. There's also a Vs., where you can take on a friend at a time, or go up against any of the beings as an AI(note that there is only a single difficulty setting to this, and it's actually pretty easy, I had little trouble and I don't play many of these). You can Practice, where you'll be shown tutorial videos of what you can do and how to do it, then get to try it out at your own pace with regeneration on. This lets you block, throw(what's in your hands, and then you get another one), knock off armor(you see it come off and what they look like underneath), taunt(increases your force, just don't get hit while you do it; oh, and they of course also say stuff before they start beating each other up, and some of these are OK, at times, they're kinda lame). The tongue in cheek humor works at times, the pop culture references tend to be cringe-inducing. Voice acting is fine, the accents can be dumb. Yes, they had to give Bast one(Egyptian, or meant to be... she may complain about her make-up when smashed), however, ol' Grim Reaper himself has such a thick one that it sounds like he tells you that it's arrogant of you to go up against "a goat". The camera sometimes does a pan around the action and we see it in slow-motion, like when someone has been hit particularly hard. It will show the area before you enter it. "Cut-scenes" are artwork, narration and hints of movement. This can feel pretty epic, without you ever losing sight of how things are going. There are many combinations for how to play this, and this keeps it fresh for quite a while. It isn't an expensive purchase, either. The graphics are nice, there are no glitches and everything looks marvelous. There is a bit of disturbing content, blood and violence, and no gore or sexuality in this. I recommend this to any enthusiast of, well, what you get to run around as in this and the awesome powers you can invoke. Those mainly out for something like Tekken, Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat... if the Wii aspect of this(move to unleash the fury, not all button presses) doesn't sell it for you, this isn't for you. There are freer ones with more playable ones out there, and that doesn't only go for the newest ones, either. 7/10

This always struck me as an underrated piece of art. Each character has their own journey and you navigate it through complex Wii Remote controls! I love this game! I am most impressed with the designs of the attacks and the use of swings to create attacks. I really do believe it's a great game, and I believe other Wii games deserve more attention just like this one should.
