As someone who has been breaking out of Zoloft-induced dissociation, this was trippy and such a God-tier show.
thepixarmemer11 November 2022
I could relate to Darius during this episode a lot because when I saw this I had just woken up from a tad-like dystopian nightmare and my sense of reality felt confusing. When I first started to watch Atlanta, I was mentally fine before I took Zoloft and loved the show. Since Season 3, I've been breaking out of this Zoloft state for about a year and this show has helped me so much with my dissociation to look at it from a comedic standpoint. I even started to write my own comedy show, and this show has definitely been a huge inspiration to me. Donald Glover is ahead of his time, and this show is gonna blow up soon. I gotta start listening to Bino again. Thanks DonG.

Warning: Spoilers
1. Darius goes to sensory deprivation tank 2. Earn, Van and Al go to sushi 3. Darius steals a Maserati

The show has finally come to an end. But it was a brilliant ending that is very fitting to the overall theme of the series: surrealism. If I were to bet money on whether the events that happened in Atlanta are real or not, I think I could say that most of it is real with some augmented versions of reality. The ending did make that ambiguous but it wasn't a level of ambiguity that throws the entire show to the ground. It was a cheeky goodbye by leaving the audience in doubt.

But if it wasn't real, it makes sense because it seems like Darius had lost his brother due to an illness and maybe he created these friends in his imagination to cope with his grief. While Darius has been part of the main cast, the least amount of attention has been given to him and he possessed this sort of dream like quality as a person. Perhaps that's because he's been acting as this omniscient observer but sometimes also a participant in the universe he created.

Atlanta to me will be remembered as a show that captured infinite amount of creativity that made me laugh, thrilled, shocked and tear up sometimes all at the same time. It captured the African American experience through the Afro-surrealistic lens, just enough to simply present but not preach. The 4 main casts have been stellar and I have fallen in love with all of them. Even in their absence in the standalone episodes, Atlanta still never dropped their caliber. An amazing show all around and I wish more people got to see it.

So beautifully planned.

Warning: Spoilers
This was an incredible episode and one of the best finales I've ever seen. Some of the other reviews seem to be missing the mark. This episode is about a lot more than just *this* episode. Honestly the entire series makes more sense if it was all just a fever dream of Darrius'. It introduces the idea that all of the off the wall episodesnare more than just Glover's creative expression. And of course all of the characters lives would turn out for the best because that's what Darrius' beautiful spirit would want for his friends. Will have to go back and rewatch with that in mind. This is definitely one of the greatest shows ever made.

Why are they stopping now?
Rob-O-Cop8 December 2022
This was another in a line of good episodes. This season was great. There was no sign of running out of ideas and spending time with these characters was always enjoyable.

Was the show not getting enough watchers? Only 3 reviews of the final episode so I'm guessing it might be that. If that's the case then we don't know what we've got till it's gone cos this show was head and shoulders above most TV fare, it's intelligent, thought provoking, at times challenging, and offers a different view on the world, a different perspective. I loved it, even when I was the target.

We need more of this type of TV, not less.

I'm saddened we're not going to see Darius, Alfred (Paper Boi), Earn and Van again. I think this show was really important because it showed black culture from an insider perspective, it made self referential jokes and broke down barriers,.

I hope the next thing these actors do is fantastic because if it's not they've just thrown away a really good thing. Thanks for the 4 series of smart and talented TV you did give us and best wishes for your next endeavors, but also don't be afraid to come back here if you've got a few more ideas you want to share with these characters. We won't turn you away.

My favorite show ends
cedric_mg1 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely love Atlanta, from the moment I discovered it to the end. I don't know why, but this show always leaves me with a sense of fullfilment and happiness. The characters are so intriguing, a reason I didnt love the episodes without them. This last Episode is a beautiful ending to a beautiful show, I'm personally more optimistic and choose to believe that Darius doesn't see thick Judge Judy at the end. I believe he is with the people he loves and that love him.

I strive to be more like Darius, always having an open ear, almost never wasting time on his phone, going out into this world in search of a new adventure and a great music taste of course. I hope I have the courage and willpower to change. But this show has given me a look on how peaceful and fulfilling life can be outside the hustle and bustle.

Maybe you don't agree with me, but thanks fit taking the time to hear the thougts of another.

The best show finale I've ever seen
simoncicalesko17 November 2022
Man, oh man... This last episode of the last season was fire. It was simply on, from start to end. So much funny and interesting dialogue, great music and an abundance of brilliant ideas. The plot unfolds with such ease that you barely notice it and the 35 minutes fly by. It will be hard to top this one. Truly a classic. It is the first and only title I rated 10 on imdb. And it deserves it. It really does.

PS. Donald Glover is a great artist. He produces only top notch stuff and he never compromised his artistic integrity. He always gave us his sincere thoughts and never aimed for commercial sucess. He is one of the greats. Long live, Childish 'earnest' Gambino.

Donald Glover's dream
lplohmann14 October 2023
Unlike many of the other reviewers, I don't think the show's finale is implying the story wasn't real. Actually this doesn't even matter much. What I think that it's saying is, in Glover's subtle and surrealist way, that making this show was like a dream to him.

The last episodes led me to understand how this show was about journeys of learning and growth. Throughout the episodes, these amazing characters learn what it makes to be professionals, friends, parents, successful human beings. They learn who they really are and come to terms with it.

So, it makes sense that the last episode focuses in Darius, who to this day was the least developed, but also the more misterious and also philosophical of them. It shows his loss, his pain but also that everything is going to be alright because he will always be among these friends who love him as much as he loves them.

Atlanta, to me, is absolutely one of the best shows of all times. The writing, direction, acting and production are all top notch. And the last episode was a beautiful, endearing farewell to all those involved in the making of it.

i'm never using a sensory deprivation tank
crowstastegood22 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This entire episode is pretty entertaining, and brings up a very great question, was any of it real? Well to be honest, it doesn't really matter if it was real or not, because first off it's a tv show, and second off the events would've happened regardless of whether it was real or not, but it would make sense either way.

Darius has always been a mysterious character, seemingly somewhat deprived of emotion and just in a constant nonchalant mood, and this along with the fact that he has no real backstory would add validity to the fact that the show was just following the dreams he had in the sensory deprivation tank. Thinking about it though, it would piece together pretty perfectly with the show's plot, and adds sensibility to it as a whole.

There are two main points that can tie this theory to the plot, the first being the disconnected episodes and seasons. Other than the first two episodes, the entire show has a common thing it'll do where it will leave you off, and just pick up somewhere random. For example, the ending of season 1 has little to no relation to the first episode of season 2. It leaves you with questions of what happened during that time period, or what happened to shack and the money, but you're forced to ignore it as the show kind of just forces you to accept that reality, kind of like how dreams just seem natural in the moment, until you wake up. This would also explain the side stories in season 3, which can be seen as alternate sessions. The second point is the overall dreamy feeling of a lot of the episodes, where the reality of the show often becomes more questionable to the end. Episodes like Teddy Perkins and the Woods have a constant strange feeling of unfamiliarity, where reality seems close to you, but not quite there.

Overall, I would almost definitely say that this episode was a dream, but it's quite literally impossible to say how much of the show was a dream, if at all. Just something interesting to think about.

An episode with a beautiful dreamy vibe and a great ending to a masterpiece of a show
oscarwilkens26 February 2023
Darius is one of my all time favorite characters. I have always been envious to his way of approaching life. He is curious like a child and has a philosopher's soul. He is living on his wavelength with integrity without being a dick!

Like many Atlanta episodes it makes me think a lot. Not necessarily understanding everything or getting answers. It makes me feel something, laugh, be uncomfortable and ask more questions. And that's for me what great art is supposed to be.

But what I love the most is the vibe of the episode. Darius adventures reminds me of when I was a teenager with no adult responsibilities, just roaming the streets meeting people and having adventures. Though my adventures were nothing like the one darius is having.

The details of the episode makes it feel real but not real at the same time, just like a dream. For example the way Darius is just walking calmly to the tank place has a feel to it that the creators really nailed.

I can also see that the episode took inspiration from inception at one point especially and that was really cool.

I just love it!

Amazing show. Ending eh
ayshab515 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Amazing show. Ending could have been better. Gonna miss it a lot. This whole series has been pure genius but it seems like this last season was a bit rushed and not as executed as well as previous seasons. I love how many of the concepts were allegories for real life situations that black America is currently experiencing. At the same time there was this sci-fi element which could be seen previously when Alfred had the mushroom trip in Amsterdam and now when Darius continues to have disassociative episodes in the deprivation tank. I do wish there was a more definitive ending instead of Darius looking into the camera with an ambiguous grin not knowing if he was dreaming or not.
