Atlanta: It Was All a Dream (2022)
The best show finale I've ever seen
Man, oh man...
This last episode of the last season was fire. It was simply on, from start to end. So much funny and interesting dialogue, great music and an abundance of brilliant ideas. The plot unfolds with such ease that you barely notice it and the 35 minutes fly by. It will be hard to top this one. Truly a classic. It is the first and only title I rated 10 on imdb. And it deserves it. It really does.
PS. Donald Glover is a great artist. He produces only top notch stuff and he never compromised his artistic integrity. He always gave us his sincere thoughts and never aimed for commercial sucess. He is one of the greats. Long live, Childish 'earnest' Gambino.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Not bad, not great
I don't know man. I went into this movie with high expectations and frankly, I was disappointed.
It all felt corny and cheesy to me: the jokes, the plot, characters' arcs, soundtrack...
This is a typical family film, beacuse it is so unprovocative and politically correct.
Most of the time (first 90 minutes) I was bored and cringing. But the last 30 minutes were packed with action and suspense, which was a lot more enjoyable.
It's a shame, because this movie could be great with more action and appealing story. But no, they played it very safe and made an average movie.
The first Top gun wasn't exceptional either, but was at least enjoyable to watch. It had this special energy about it and was spontaneous and fun. The second one was predictable and "square" as Uma Thurman once said.
Mid90s (2018)
Not bad, but not great either
If I am honest I was expecting a bit more out of this, considering Jonah Hill wrote and directed it and I love Jonah. But acting and directing ain't the same. I am sure he will get better with time. I didn't like the way Jonah tells the story - there is too much silence, where there could be dialogue. I felt a lot of things went unsaid, which is a pity. Overall, the acting was very good, great soundtrack, nice scenery. But there was not much of a story and it wasn't exactly evolving with time. There could be more dialogue and more depth. There were a lot of loose ends, that could be tied together. For me the movie was a nice watch, but I feel it didn't quite come together as it could.
Hustle (2022)
Too cliche for my taste
Acting, script, soundtrack and dialogue are all average at best. It wasn't even based on real events, which would have made it a bit more interesting. All charachters are very one-dimensional (good or evil) which is very unrealistic. I was expecting a deep, realistic and sincere story about making it big, but all I got was a commercial, cliche, superficial family drama. Don't get me wrong - it is not bad, but it is predictable and seems to follow a very tested formula from Hollywood, so do not expect a film with depth that would challenge you in any way. Kinda like Blind side, except the latter is better.
The Beach Bum (2019)
It requires really acquired taste
This is no ordinary story. It talks a lot about life and its meaning but in a very broad sense. I think viewer will either hate it or love it. I liked the music, the scenery, and most of all the performances. Mathew, Jonah, Zac and Snoop were great. If you like films in general you will probably like this, because the script and actors were great. But if you watch movies just for entertainment, then this is not for you, because you will get a feeling, that you are watching just random people doing random stuff.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Now thats entertainment
I loved the movie. Great dialogue, snappy jokes, good plot and storytelling plus superb soundtrack and visuals. A person can tell that this movie was not made just to earn money, it was made with love, hard work, skill and patience. Not much to add. Go watch it.
The Adam Project (2022)
Ryan Reynolds can not carry the whole movie upon his shoulders
Producers are casting Ryan Reynolds as the Deadpoll charachter in every movie. He s the funny, snappy, vain, not-caring-about-anything kind of guy. But that doesnt work in every movie and even if it did, that wouldnt be enough to make it an enjoyable experience.
They just thought : lets just get Ryan and his joker persona, give him a kid co-star and throw in a woman who will be the maing guys love interest. The plot makes no sense and feels forced, the dialogue is not funny or engaging and the charachters feel shallow. The cast is very good, but they were poorly utilized.
Why was Deadpoll a lot better movie compared to this ?
A lot funnier because the jokes were original and elaborate with numerous references. Dialogue was constantly having you involved and the plot was otherwise simple, but they made it work because the characters had depth - the good guy wasnt that good, and the bad guy wasnt that bad, so it wasnt one dimensional. Plus the action and the soundtrack were considerably better.
In conclusion - not that entertaining and not so much fun.
Uncharted (2022)
One dimensional
It is almost 2 hours which is way too long, especially if the movie has underdeveloped plot, boring dialogue, mediocre soundtrack and charachters who lack depth. The only positive side are the action sequencesand thats it. I would give it a 7 if they just made it funnier, gave it some better music and if the plot made more sense. It is not relatable or adventurous. It s more egotistical and backstabbing with countless plot twists. Kinda like Fast and furious 6 and later - only action is a hit, everything else is a miss.
If you are really bored you can watch it - it is not THAT bad. But in this day nad time there are countless movies and tv shows better than this. Go watch Peacemaker, Better call saul, Atlanta, Rocky or Get out.
No Time to Die (2021)
Not worthy of Daniel Craig
I stopped watching inside the first hour. That doesn"t happen often. There was just no attraction. The plot seemed chewed up and recycled. Not original at all. It was hard for me to follow and not because there was so much going on, but because there was no obvious link between certain actions of protagonists. It felt like a lot of action and drama was just thrown on your plate without connecting the dots. I mean the dialogue, the story - it just didn"t click, you know.
I sincerely expected a lot more of this - like Skyfall/Casino Royale quality. But it just wasn"t there. I have to blame the writers and the director(s). Writing is always the most important - if the script is bad, you should not make the movie, because it is gonna suck.
There were a lot of great actors that weren"t utilized properly.
Overall - Daniel Craig deserved better. Shame that they could"t step outside this square and write an original story with funny and witty dialogue accompanied with breathtaking action and emotional music.
