Murder on The Golf Course.
Sleepin_Dragon15 January 2022
Neville has another murder to solve, and an affair of the heart to deal with.

Another very good, solid episode, it's so good to see that there is still a real sense of quality in this show, now in its eleventh series.

It feels very fresh, Marlon has matured, and Naomi has been an awesome addition, the tension between Neville and Florence was reallly nicely done.

A very satisfying mystery, with a streak of cleverness running through it, very Agatha Christie. Once again it ends with a bit of intrigue, not just beers at the bar, I liked that.

A really nice cast here, I'm surprised Tamzin Outhwaite hasn't appeared in the series before, but all good things come to those who wait, she's excellent throughout, I thought Jason Done did a great job also.

8/10.

Good enough

Again, there are some nice subtle twists on the normal format here, which work well.

It does remain a bit like 'Death in Paradise' by numbers though, with lots of the elements being seen before with the murder case. The person who thought they murdered the person not actually being the murderer etc.

I much preferred the ongoing Neville and Florence dynamic, and how the plot from ep 1 in some ways has continued into the next.

On the whole good.

A very good episode!

Warning: Spoilers
"Death in Paradise" has become a favorite of mine in the past two years, but the 10th season was not all that good- except for a couple of really good entries. The 11th season started on decent note for me, but this episode is much better than the previous one.

Let's start with the good aspects, shall we?

. The production values of this episode are great as usual. The direction is good and the music fits the scenery. After being disappointed by the acting in the previous episode, I was glad that the performances are better here. Tamzin Outhwaite is obviously very good in her role, so is the lovely Shantol Jackson, Jason Done is fantastic too.

. The murder mystery is extremly interesting. The characters are colorful and there are some solid twists and turns here. The ending with a double twist was very satisfying agreed.

But....

. The subplot between Parker and Florence was resolved maybe a bit too quickly. I would have wanted to get a little bit more out of their characters in the scene, where they share their thoughts on them being friends. The interaction between Marlon and Naomi was not the most humorous all the time either. At times it got a bit cringe-worthy to be honest.

Overall, a very good edition to the series.

8/10 HK.

Episode 11.2

It is murder on the golf course.

Bradley Faircroft has arrived on Saint Marie to reunite with his brother Conor who has run the golf club on the island for some years.

After an argument between the two, Bradley makes a phone call saying he is in distress and then he is found dead.

DI Parker thinks that Conor is the main suspect. The golf club is not in an idyllic situation. Conor's drinking and gambling has left the business in debt.

However Conor might have an alibi and no motive.

A good mystery with a couple of twists. Sgt Thomas seems to have a good rapport with Officer Pryce.

I did like Neville having a go at trying out golf only to be lumbered playing with Commissioner Patterson.

Then there is the series arc with DS Cassell offered to go undercover on a dangerous assignment.

Tamzin Best

Pleasant enough. But, This episode was all over the map. The one bright spot was seeing Tamzin Outhwaite. DI Neville is vanilla as ever. He brings no dynamic to this series. There's no pizzazz in any of the regular characters. Saw Officer Dwayne (Danny John-Jules) in the latest Shakespeare and Hathaway episode. Miss his emotion on this series.

Double twist and then some
safenoe26 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Tamzin Outhwaite stars in this golf-themed episode of Death in Paradise, and the ending was quite the double twist in fingering the murderer. Actually, the cryptic murder ending to episode 1 of season 11 is picked up at the end of this episode, with Florence being drawn into an undercover investigation about that cryptic murder.

I sometimes wonder about Aude Legastelois (DS Madeleine Dumas). Aude was the shortest serving regular cast member of Death in Paradise, having only appeared in 10 episodes. Remarkably, Aude was abruptly replaced in season 10 by Joséphine Jobert who previously played Florence. I don't think Aude has made any public statement on her departure.

Par for the course?

Warning: Spoilers
The murder involves a Mr Bradley Faircroft who's body, is found on the greens at a family run golf club.

He had recently travelled to Saint Marie from England, to hopefully heal a family feud with his brother Connor Faircroft.

The Faircroft family is a veritable hotbed of intrigue and double dealing, between the brothers and involving other family members, both personally and in business dealings.

DI Neville Parker has decided that he needs a hobby, and thought he might give golf a whirl.

On his first ever time out the course, the Commissioner decides to accompany him to discuss a matter.

The previous Episodes murder case involved an Otis Benjamin, who had been released from suspicion and returned to Jamaica. He has been subsequently discovered murdered, and the Jamaican police are seeking a joint operation with Saint Marie, to supply an undercover officer to join in their investigations.

I have watched and enjoyed Death in Paradise from the very beginning, and I am a regular habitue of crime and detective shows. Which invariably involves a custom and practice of police forces, where someone is suspected of murder. This is something that regularly occurs, both in American and British police television series.

But is singularly missing from the Death in Paradise series, and I have absolutely no idea why it has taken me so long to notice it.

This relates to the suspects Miranda Rights, where the arresting officer declares something akin to "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will and can be used against you in a court of law." I have never seen any arresting officer in the Saint Marie police force, ever say anything remotely like this to suspects in homicide investigations, in any of their innumerable murder cases.

Downhill
CanadianCanard24 February 2022
Plots getting rediculous. No chemistry. Mediocre acting. Sure looks like actors are reading que cards. Downhill with Kevin Rundle and James Hall. Lacking in the dry comedy and amusement of yesteryears. Bring back John-Jules.
