An excellent start.

Galowglass debuts with a truly great episode. It baffles me why more of Ruth Rendell's texts aren't adapted for TV. The writing is clever, it's a dark, intense story, which is immersed in intrigue, but it's the characters that are so compelling. Such a deep and clever mystery, which asks the question 'if a monster saves your life, and you become indebted to them, just how far would you go?'

An almost unrecognisable Michael Sheen is excellent as young Joe, but it's fellow Welshman Paul Rhys who's the standout.

Made back in 1993, and I'm gripped after the opener. 9/10
