Pretty good start.

The Brannock family acquire their dream home, 658 Boulevard, but when they arrive, they discover the neighbours aren't so friendly, and a letter from someone calling themselves, The Watcher.

I thought it was quite fun first episode, it's wonderfully cheesy, it's so over the top, it's not perfect, but it was definitely entertaining.

If you're expecting The Haunting of Bly Manor, think again, it's not in the same bracket as that, but there is definitely some interest, some menace. It played out exactly as I expected, even down to the ferret.

They're not the most pleasant family you'll ever see, but they're alright so far, I'm intrigued to know what's in store for them.

A pet ferret, good to see, though I thought it was only people in 1970's British sitcoms that kept them as pets.

Pretty good start, the scene is set, nothing ground breaking, bit it's good, 7/10.

Welcome, Friends

Warning: Spoilers
This was an exciting start to the new miniseries. It featured the right balance of legitimate mystery, over the top acting and the general spookiness of a Ryan Murphy show.

It is not a perfect script, nothing about this story felt perfect, but this is very simple popcorn TV that feels very bingeable. It is easy to see how it has captivated such a wide audience in such a short time.

I think people always want to see high-brow TV, but you don't always or shouldn't always want this. The ridiculous and absurd nature of this program felt fun and different and it is what hooked me into wanting to see more.

This is the acclaimed Ryan Murphy that people rave about?
richiehodev15 October 2022
It's clear that to achieve the 7 episodes that this series promises, a lot of artistic licensing and sensationalization has to be done in order to inject mystery and intrigue into this narrative.

With this first episode, there was mystery and intrigue. But when it is surrounded by insufferable characters and incredulous dialogue, the series is closer to more of a cheap and cheesy horror flick.

It's impossible to not be familiar with this story before choosing to watch this series, and it would be a challenge to to find anyone who thinks there is any kind of horror or supernatural elements behind it. But that's what this series tries to do, whether intentional or not. Whether it's through suspicious glances from some supporting characters directed at the family, or foreboding music oddly inserted at strange moments like a conversation about arrugula salad, these efforts to inject intrigue into the narrative just falls flat.

The characters are miscast, everyone from the two kids to the police officer to the kooky neighbors. And most of all the husband. Nobody in real life talks like these characters. As much as the characters yell and scream, they don't seem to be saying anything of substance or lasting importance.

This is the acclaimed Ryan Murphy that people rave about?
