Before get into the review, I am a huge fan of Kamen Rider - Especially Kamen Rider Black 1987. There are many things that this new series try to accomplish just like the older version which it did just not enough. However, I am not saying this series is bad and cannot overcome the 1987 version. I respect the choice of director made. This is just my opinion...
Story 7/10 Story is very good I can see the amount of effort that everyone try to put in this series. But, there are many gaps and weak story telling in the story line. \\ **SPOILER WARNING** For example, the relationship between Kotaro and Nobuhiko is very mild and faded quite quickly. Compare to the older version, in the begin till the end of the series, Kotaro never forget about Nobuhiko. In this new series it seems like Kotaro and Nobuhiko are not very connected to each other - Yes it caused from the story. // In the end, the whole story still very touching and interesting. SOLID 7 score!!!
Character Design 9/10 No need to say much, character design in the new version is insane, well thought, and savage. I like that they included the unfinished Henshin which is the form of riders that still have monster look. -1 for no permanent red and green eyes. Overall, cool af.
OLD VS NEW (Respect and Reference) 8/10 The new version henshin nail this one right on. The henshin is identically the same as the older version which is a nice touch and made me almost cried hahaha. \\ **SPOILER WARNING** In the last episode, all the old fan will have huge gasp. //
All in all, I am just a guy who love Kamen rider Black so much and the director's teams really put a lot of effort for this series.
Q - Is Kamen Rider Black Sun (2022) Good?
A - Yes Q - Compare to the old version, which one is better?
A - Depends on what you like, if you like the heartwarming story and bitter sweet drama then the old version will do well for you. If you seek for something new and interesting to watch, the new version would let you down.
Q - Will I be disappointed after watching this?
A - No, you would not be disappointed BUT do think too much about it.
