Beware of false prophets

My oh my what an amazing ending to another great season of the Righteous Gemstones. The range of emotions I felt watching this episode were overwhelming as I felt laughter, shock, horror, and excitement at the same time on multiple occasions. The stakes this season were so much higher when the Gemstones had to take on cold blooded killers threatening their lives and their church. The mystery aspect this season also brought out some real genius along with extremely funny writing from Danny McBride and the crew. John, Danny, Edi, and Adam: thank you so much for making me laugh and keeping me surprised every episode. PRAISE BE TO HE!

I enjoyed a lot the first season, but the second season was even better; more funny more everything!! The characters are incredibly fun and funny.

Thank you and congratulations to everyone involved, can't wait for the season 3.

10/10.

ERIC ANDRE

Eric needed more screen time. He carried the whole ep but what can I say other then the cast making this crazy ride work. The story is silly but has some tense moments as well I'm confused but not annoyed, I enjoyed it even if it was silly.

Amazing ending to an amazing season

Season 2 was exceptional and a true testament to the gifted writers of this series. It was complex, funnier, and far more thrilling than last season. Don't get me wrong Season 1 was great but in this season we went deeper with every character and in the end wound up loving these characters more and more.

The theme for this season was pretty simple with those in second place positions thinking they are ready to take the reins of power (Jesse, Junior, and Lyle) and seeing through the course of events that they definitely are not.

The plot line was way more complex and we were treated to a "who dunnnit" early and were left all season guessing right up until the end the way good writing should be. The characters were funnier and I ended up liking characters I despised in Season 1 better and I feel like I understand them more. We see these third dimension characters and admire them more for what they overcame rather than just how much they can entertain us.

I guess the pandemic and a newly two and a half year wait was with it (kinda the same thing that happens with writers strikes, it allows writers more time to see how far they can push each character without taking away from the storyline and instead enhance them.

Kudos go out to McCauley Caulken (good to have you back) and let's see some more of him. John Goodman deserves an Emmy (long time coming) and Eddy Patterson and her "gooch pucker" needs to be more respected.

Didn't care for the whole vomit scene at the beginning of Episode 8 but outside of that they really nailed it this season. Brava to all who made this season amazing but especially the writers! Way to go and with a powerhouse of a season I can't imagine what they've got cooked up for us in Season 3 but I'll be waiting with baited breath. Well done to one and all!!!!!!!

It had everything. All I missed was a wedding of BJ and Judy at the end but it would've been way too cheesy.

What a great way to end the season, just when you thought they couldn't make it better... and we get this episode. 10/10.

Great cast
TheSpiritOfTheTimes28 February 2022
I'm afraid it's still not McBride's crowning achievement. The writing is still too uneven at times, too broad, too much improv, occasional misses. An absolutely stellar cast though, difficult to pick a stand-out although it probably is Goggins. Adam DeVine and Edi Patterson are great too, but for me perhaps it's Tony Cavalero who steals almost every scene he's in.

Warning: Spoilers
This season was full of fillers and side plots that are at best HORRIBLE this final episode had its good moments, but in the end it ends with a negative balance, just like the entire 2 second season Eli didn't have his backstory in depth, did he just have a few scenes? That was disappointing. Kelvin is just plain boring, his plot is always boring and silly. Judy is always talking b t c h, why do the scribes think this is funny? Looks like a teenager! Judy's personality is just she talks a lot of b tch ing, every time she appears she says something involving bitching, because in the imaginary world of authors, this is the funniest thing in the world jesse and his wife are always boring, eric andre was not that special in this cameo the plot as a whole was full of filler, the best eps are the ones that stay in Eli's past and it's disgusting the way this show portrays people from the south, just disgusting the first season was far from perfect, but it was something decent... this one was just a mess positive points are the cinematography and music at the end of the episode.

Disappointing but still fun

Season 1 was AMAZING! This season has lost seriousness for sometimes odd gags. I still enjoyed this season but not as good as the first. Hopefully season 3 trends upward.

Not many laughs in the season finale
sabacc28 February 2022
Lots of exposition so they wrapped up and excellent season 2 and laid a lot of groundwork for the next but this was possibly the least funny episode of all. Fortunately, when this team gets together their least funny is still better than most shows.

Episode 209

Warning: Spoilers
So, there were certainly some things that worked in this episode: bringing Joe Jonas back for a funny celebrity cameo, but one that did not make him too maniacal like Entourage would often do, and then Kelvin somehow defying the laws of physics to lift the cross.

But the weird fight on the beach killed it. It ran for far too long, the ending did not make a lick of sense with them all walking into the water when they could have overwhelmed them and then the ridiculous escape to Alaska.

This show has done a good job balancing comedy and drama but I feel like they struggled to find the right fit the last 15 minutes or so. Did not feel at all like The Righteous Gemstones that we have become used to.
