Better production values than the feature

Warning: Spoilers
This "making of," the ACTUAL title of which is DOG DAYS OF SUMMER: IN THE DARK ROOM, is more cohesive than the feature it illuminates. For instance, the fictional movie is comprised of two time periods, which this making of notes were filmed in "summer" and "winter." The summer scenes, from protagonist Philip Walden's boyhood, were set at least 25 years earlier than the adult "Phil Walden" vignettes. However, except for several lead adult "summer" characters, all of the extras in the bulk of the movie are anachronistically dressed in the clothing of today. This "making of" features producer\director Mark Freiburger underlining how the pre-production of the feature began when he was in high school, with the shoot starting within a couple months of his graduation from North County School of the Arts. DOG DAYS OF SUMMER lensman Rob C. Givens, the only other person to speak on this featurette, was a newly-graduated classmate of Mr. Freiburger, as were most of the other key crew members.

At any rate, Christopher J. Molnar, the editor of this bonus feature, does a more than adequate job of keeping the viewer's interest during its eight-minute running time. And yes, there really IS a ball team called the STEAMERS, and no, their hometown has NOT been flooded by the power company. You can still see most of the feature's shooting locations in Edenton, NC.
