I wasn’t going to review A Creature Was Stirring. After The Sacrifice Game, There’s Something in the Barn, Nightmare on 34th Street and Santa Isn’t Real, I was pretty well played out on Christmas horror films. But then I noticed it was directed by Damien LeVeck whose other feature was The Cleansing Hour, one of the better recent paranormal investigator films., based on that I decided to give it a look.
“We just have to keep this up until it breaks” Faith tells her daughter Charm, only to be met with the reply “The blizzard or me?” Looking at the assortment of syringes, pills and a rectal thermometer laid out on the kitchen counter that response seemed anything but snarky.

Eddie Murphy returns with his big, goofy smile in the new trailer for the family Christmas comedy Candy Cane Lane from Prime Video. Murphy is reunited with director Reginald Hudlin, who directed him in the 1992 comedy Boomerang. While Boomerang was a very adult-oriented film, this new film jumps over to the other side of the spectrum with a family-friendly tone. While earlier images and trailers showcased more of a Christmas decoration-type comedy, the new footage reveals an adventure aspect as Jillian Bell, who plays the magical elf, Pepper, shows to be more trouble than previously thought.
The official synopsis from Amazon reads,
“Eddie Murphy stars in this holiday comedy adventure about a man on a mission to win his neighborhood’s annual Christmas home decoration contest. After Chris (Eddie Murphy) inadvertently makes a deal with a mischievous elf named Pepper (Jillian Bell) to better his chances of winning, she casts...

Eddie Murphy made a big comeback with his acclaimed performance in Dolemite Is My Name from Netflix. He followed it up with Coming 2 America, which reunited him with his Dolemite director, Craig Brewer. Murphy would appear in Netflix’s You People, and he’s got a new sequel to one of his most beloved films on the way with the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. While it may seem like he’s attempting to recapture his edge, it looks as if Eddie hasn’t exactly put the family films behind him. He will reunite with his director of the 1992 film Boomerang, Reginald Hudlin, for a Christmas comedy for Prime Video titled Candy Cane Lane.

Soon, fans of the Haunted Mansion won't have to take a trip to Disneyland to experience a scary ride. During the Walt Disney Studios Showcase, a presentation at this year's Destination D23, it was revealed that "Haunted Mansion" will soon be coming to home media beginning on October 4.
"Haunted Mansion" is based on the eponymous theme park ride, a staple of Disneyland since 1969. The film, directed by Justin Simien ("Dear White People"), features single mom Gabbie (Rosario Dawson) moving into the haunted Gracey Manor in New Orleans with her son. Soon, they run afoul of the ghosts, such as the Hatbox Ghost (Jared Leto) and the decapitated Madame Leota (Jamie Lee Curtis), now imprisoned in a crystal ball. So, they recruit a team of priests, academics, and psychics to exorcise the Manor.
"Haunted Mansion" coming to home media in October sounds like Disney learning its lesson from releasing the film theatrically in July.

This past weekend’s hugely popular “Barbenheimer” double feature ended up being a huge boon for the box office, but can any new movies make any sort of dent against two unstoppable blockbusters? Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
The first attempt has Disney releasing its third “Haunted Mansion” movie into over 3,700 theaters on Friday, almost 20 years after the Eddie Murphy movie based on the popular Disneyland and Magic Kingdom attraction. This one is directed by Justin Simien and stars Oscar nominee Lakeith Stanfield (“Judas and the Black Messiah”), Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson, Tiffany Haddish and Danny De Vito, as well as Oscar winners Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto as very specific ghosts. Stanfield plays Ben Matthias, an astrophysicist working as a ghost tour guide in New Orleans, called upon by a single mother (Dawson) who has moved into a mansion that is … you guessed it … haunted!

Lakeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson and Jamie Lee Curtis cannot save this laborious story of a creepy old dwelling and the awful Hatbox Ghost
There’s scope for a genuinely disturbing and subversive horror set in Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion, the attraction which first opened at the original theme park in Anaheim in California in 1969, with cloned versions appearing at the Magic Kingdom in Florida in 1971 and Tokyo Disneyland in 1983. There’s also scope for a properly funny, amiably creepy Goosebumps-type family comedy based on it. But this tiresome, convoluted piece of corporate IP product isn’t it; like the 2003 film version with Eddie Murphy, it feels cynical – though I must admit I have never seen the Muppets Haunted Mansion special.
This new attempt to cross-monetise the tourist walkthrough is laborious and joyless while the throwaway funny lines, which do exist, only serve in the end to remind...

The new ten-episode Disney+ series"The Muppets Mayhem" sees the return of the psychedelic Muppet band The Electric Mayhem as they embark on a rip-roaring adventure to record their debut album. Their fearless bandleader Dr. Teeth is still behind the keys and Animal is still beating his drum kit into submission, with all the rest of the band getting back together to make magic happen once again. The long history of Muppets movies has always been filled with pop culture references and glorified celebrity cameos, but aside from "Muppets Haunted Mansion," they've largely avoided any direct nods to the horror genre.
That all changed with the seventh episode of the series "Track 7: Eight Days a Week," where an uncredited appearance from director Peter Jackson confirmed one of the most unlikely puppet crossovers in film history. For the sake of your own sanity and to keep wholesome childhood memories intact,...

The recent passing of Harry Belafonte — and the viral proliferation of a clip featuring the iconic singer/actor/activist crooning “Day-o” in front of a boat packed with dancing pigs — was a reminder of how many stars of a certain generation were at their most relaxed and ebullient as participants on The Muppet Show.
Some 44 years after Belafonte did The Muppet Show, the powers that be at Disney and the Muppet Studio continue to go out of their way to find avenues for Muppet programming that inexplicably avoid just doing The Muppet Show for a new generation. There’s a willingness to fritter this priceless brand away on tangential projects that vanish quickly and forgettably instead of bringing the characters and the A-list stars who love them together in one spoof-and-song-driven space.

"When hinges creak in doorless chambers, and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls ... wherever candle lights flicker, though the air is deathly still ... that is the time that ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight."
So runs the opening narration, provided by Paul Frees, at the entrance to the Haunted Mansion, easily the best thing Disney has ever produced as a company.

With more than 3,000 submissions, NATAS said that the competition is now the largest that it oversees — which also includes Daytime, Sports and News/Documentary Emmys.

At this year's D23 Expo, Brian Henson announced that his directorial debut "The Muppet Christmas Carol" would finally be coming to Disney+ in its complete and uncut form later this year. After a number of years of trying, the studio has finally found a way to properly restore the song "When Love Is Gone" to the film, so now it can be viewed the way it was originally intended.
However, "original" is a relative term in this instance because this beloved holiday classic that has become a seasonal staple for three decades was originally intended to be a TV special similar to the recent "Muppets Haunted Mansion." During the panel celebrating the film's legacy — and the new life it's about to receive thanks to this release — Henson shared the origins of what is regarded as one of the most faithful adaptations of Charles Dickens' iconic tale to date.

As a journalist, I’m always uncomfortable becoming part of the story. But I was met with an abnormally high amount of online dissent several days ago, after contributing to a Variety list detailing “The Worst Series Finales of All Time.”
My sole contribution was the 1991-1994 sitcom “Dinosaurs,” a show I watched religiously as a child. The series finale — titled “Changing Nature” — aired months before my ninth birthday, and I was not equipped to handle the tonal shift compared to previous episodes. What I wrote for the list:
“Dinosaurs” was an interesting ABC sitcom experiment: What if you replicated the family vibes of “Step by Step” or “Family Matters,” but the whole cast is made up of big Jim Henson dinosaur puppets? Perfect for a child demo that would soon be scared to death by “Jurassic Park,” the four-season, 65-episode run of “Dinosaurs” delivered saccharine hijinks that could have been photocopied from “Full House.
